GREETINGS TO OUR DONORS I am pleased to introduce the MCPHS University annual Report on Giving. This publication features donors whose charitable contributions support our mission to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare through excellence in teaching, research, professional service, and community engagement. This publication chronicles philanthropic activity during fiscal year 2017. Between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017, MCPHS University recorded 1,200 gifts made by nearly 1,000 donors. These donors delivered $2 million in funding in the form of new cash and pledges, supporting programs and services that our students need to succeed academically and advance professionally.

MARGUERITE C. JOHNSON BSP ’61, PharmM ’79, MBA Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff

MCPHS continues to receive recognition for the achievements of our graduates ten years after graduation. According to the U.S. Department of Education, MCPHS students average $112,700 in earnings ten years after enrolling, making them the top earners in New England. Moreover, MCPHS was recently ranked the #1 university in the United States for earning power by the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings for 2018. The earning power of graduates is just one measure of the value and significance of an MCPHS education. Relationships are another measure. I believe that you will enjoy reading this year’s selection of donor profiles which features donor couples who are MCPHS alumni from several generations. Although these individuals may have taken different career paths, had a variety of life experiences, and have recorded an array of professional achievements, they share a common expression of gratitude to MCPHS for the education that provided them with the opportunity to build rewarding and fulfilling careers. And, of course, they also found each other. We are proud that these couples, and so many of our other alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends help to make a leading-edge academic environment possible with their gifts supporting classroom learning, laboratory research, clinical experience, community service, and so much more. We are committed to continuously delivering an outstanding, professionally focused education to each student. We all benefit from this forward-thinking approach to contemporary healthcare careers education. As charitable gift donors, we provide the essential financial support that helps redefine, reimagine, and recreate the meaning of value in education. Thank you again for your support.

So I decided to study pharmacy.” The decision proved fortuitous when Trang transferred her UMass credits. The strategy allowed her to complete pharmacy school in only two years, including her fifth-year clinical clerkship. Trang recalls Ahmed Mehanna, PhD, professor of medicinal chemistry, as an outstanding educator devoted to student success. She also cites David Kosegarten, PhD, associate professor of pharmacology, as another favorite faculty member who also happened to have a son residing in Hawaii, just where her future, soon-to-be husband Tam lived at the time. She says, “We both wore watches with Hawaii time

After joining Michael in Kansas City, Hilary completed her PGY1 residency at St. Luke’s Hospital, followed by work as a critical care pharmacist.
