Dance, dine and delight at Deni RSL
The Deniliquin RSL Club has been a vibrant community cornerstone since 1947. Known locally as the “Deni RSL”, this modern yet welcoming venue honours its military heritage while offering a broad social experience — ideal for families, travellers, locals and veterans alike.
The club provides a warm atmosphere with baristaquality coffee, seasonal bistro meals, traditional roasts, daily specials, kids’ menus and fully stocked bars.
There’s an exciting musical lineup planned over the warmer months, with a standout event being the New Year’s Eve Party featuring Creedence Clearwater Survival. The tribute band recreates the atmosphere and energy of a real John Fogerty/Creedence Clearwater Revival concert.
Expect to hear all the hits everyone knows and loves — Green River, Born on the Bayou, Proud Mary, Bad
Moon Rising, Fortunate Son and Old Man Down the Road, just to name a few.
But don’t wait until New Year’s Eve to put those dancing shoes on. Entertainment comes to life weekly, with live music acts, quiz nights, community raffles and more.
The Deni RSL is also a premier venue for events. With three event rooms, the club regularly hosts weddings, seminars, charity dinners and conferences. There are two outdoor spaces, including a large beer garden at the rear — conveniently located near the indoor

playground, which operates as a supervised crèche on select nights.
At the Deni RSL, your safety and convenience matter. A courtesy bus is available to help members and guests travel to and from the club with ease and peace of mind. It operates from 6pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and you can book your ride at reception or by calling (03) 5881 1455.

Reel in adventure

Deniliquin is set to host another unforgettable Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge this summer, with a focus on community, fun, and time spent on the river.
The event runs from February 6–8 and is based at Deniliquin’s Memorial Park Showgrounds beside the mighty Edward (Kolety) River. It is proudly organised by a local volunteer committee in support of the Kolety Lagoons Landcare Group.
The event both excites anglers and supports the vibrant river ecosystem, helping to restock native Murray cod and golden perch, and contributing to a local project to regenerate historic eel-tailed catfish populations.
Open to both adults and juniors, the tournament features catch-and-release fishing across a 40km zone, with bank, boat or kayak fishing permitted.
Anglers compete in Dash-for-Cash challenges, and there are massive fishing and raffle prizes up for grabs — including boats, motors and more.
This year’s Challenge promises more than $60,000 in prizes, including a major entry prize: a boat and
motor package from Deniliquin Yamaha valued at more than $12,000. All registered anglers are eligible to win, with several minor entry prizes also on offer.
The major raffle, drawn on Sunday, features a Sea Jay 3.5m Nomad boat with a 15hp Yamaha motor and trailer as first prize, and a Yamaha YFZ50 kids’ quad bike as second prize.
The Fishing Challenge entry fee covers daily meals, family-friendly events at Challenge HQ on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, yabby races, auctions and more.
Adult, family, junior, business and adopt-a-cod entry packages are available, starting at $110.
Visit edwardfishingchallenge.com.au to register, buy raffle tickets and merchandise, and view local accommodation options.

Bright colours to shine at Deni Show

The Deniliquin Pastoral and Agricultural Society will present the 145th instalment of the Deniliquin Show in March 2026.
The show will open with a sponsors evening especially to showcase the pavilion, on Friday, March 6, followed by the two-day event including the main show events and attractions on Saturday, with horse events spilling to the following day.
All the action will be centered on Deniliquin Memorial Park Showgrounds.
One of the most exciting aspects of next year’s Deni Show is its vibrant Australiana theme, celebrating the unique spirit and culture of Australia.
Expect to see the theme reflected across all the show competitions, and even with the show day attire of patrons. It’s time to break out your favourite Aussie icons folks!
Show Society secretary, Jess Thomson, has said the event organisation is coming together smoothly thanks to a dedicated committee of volunteers. The group working hard to make the weekend fun-filled and inclusive for all members of the community.
Major Deniliquin Show attractions expected to return include the dog trials, carnival rides, demolition derby and the much-anticipated fireworks show to close out the main day of the show.
This year, the show committee hope to again have two rounds for the demolition derby, with one specifically for female entrants.
Free activities will be offered, which will include face painting, a petting zoo and even camel rides.
And the Miss and Master competitions are always a fun way to get involved, with categories to Tiny Tots right up to adults.
As a traditional country show, the agricultural and pastoral competitions are a big draw and include beef and dairy cattle, Merino and meat and dualpurpose sheep, shearing and wool handling, poultry and the very popular, horse and equestrian rings.
The horse events have become so popular in fact, they span two days to accommodate all the competitors.

Pair all of this with a talent of local arts, crafts and cookery in the pavilion, sideshow alley, Giant Pumpkin Competition, static collector and community displays, and more around the grounds entertainment, the show is sure to entertain.
Sticking to tradition, Saturday’s schedule will close out with an incredible fireworks display.
As an added bonus this year, every person who buys a ticket to the Deniliquin Show will also be helping an important local charity.
The Show Society has teamed up with Deniliquin Can Assist this year, and a dollar from every adult ticket sold will be donated to aid their support of local families impacted by cancer.
Find out more about all the attractions, and how you can enter the competitions, by going to www.deniliquinshow.com.au

A tribute to Aussie pride
The plains just outside Deniliquin come to life every NSW Labour Day weekend for the Deni Ute Muster.
Drawing an average of 20,000 people to the site each day of the two-day festival each September or October, this celebration of utes, music and aroundthe-grounds entertainment has become a true Aussie icon.
As the festival has grown, so too have the tourism experiences that surround it. These include Musterthemed public art — such as the famed gates at the Muster site — and the development of a state-of-theart Muster HQ and the Deni Ute Muster Museum & Retail Shop at its entrance.
The Deni Ute Muster Museum opened its doors in March 2021 and offers visitors a lively, immersive look into one of Australia’s most iconic rural celebrations.
Born out of Deniliquin’s famous 1999 Play on the Plains Festival — which attracted an astounding 2,839 utes in its very first year and cemented the town’s status as the ‘Ute Capital of the World’ — the museum chronicles more than 25 years of community spirit, ingenuity and unforgettable memories.
Step inside to explore interactive displays, memorabilia, vintage photographs and immersive multimedia that document the Muster’s evolution — from humble beginnings to a world-class two-day festival.
Highlights include the retired 1979 ‘Bitza’ ute by Feral Kev, and special exhibits honouring each year’s Ute of the Year competition. Visitors can pose for photos at the original Muster gates or beside the 30-foot ‘Comet’ windmill replica — signature icons of the site.
Open weekdays from 9am to 5pm — with weekend visits available by appointment — entry is by goldcoin donation. The venue is fully accessible, featuring step-free access, wheelchair-friendly amenities and easy-read signage.
If seeing the Deni Ute Muster site and museum is the reason for your visit, be sure to also head into town to see the ‘Ute on the Pole’ and ‘Re-ute-ilize It’ sculptures, which pay homage to its local importance. There are even a few Ute Muster-themed murals dotted around town.
Tickets for the 2026 Deni Ute Muster are already on sale and can be purchased at Muster HQ or online at deniutemuster.com.au.

Jan's travels bring her to our doorstep
It was
seven years ago that
Jan Agnew reached retirement age, but that didn’t mean she was ready to slow down.

She bought herself a Toyota Coaster Motorhome and headed out on the road. And she’s been traversing this great country ever since.
About the same time, the now 72-year-old started a social media blog page to share short briefs on each of the towns she’s visited and some of her favourite photos ... and there are plenty.
In late October and early November, Jan’s travel route brought her through northern Victoria and the Southern Riverina region.
While she had been to some towns before — being a Tumut girl originally — others were completely new areas to explore.
“I’ve been to the Riverina before, including to the Deniliquin area about three years ago, but this was my very first time in Finley,” she said.
“And other than a previous trip to the Great Ocean Road, this spring is the first time I’d explored Victoria. “I was in Bendigo and had to get to Wagga for an appointment, so I mapped it out so I could zigzag my way through.”
As a lover of history, older architecture, street art and things that are a little bit quirky and different, Jan said she found the region an absolute delight.

She raved about the Port of Echuca and the paddle steamer ride on the PS Pevensy, the free camping options in most of the towns, and the growing number of murals and sculptures along the way.
“I like to look at anything painted on walls — or water towers or silos — and the sculptures.
“I also like to look at the war memorials because my dad served.
“There’s lots of murals in a lot of the towns, and the sculptures at Lockhart were amazing.
“In Finley, the very first mural I saw was on the back of the mechanic (Boomerang Motors) near the free camping area.
“And then I turned a corner and there was a really long alley with another big mural. It was so big I had to take three different photos to get it all.
“In Berrigan I stopped to watch the new water tower mural being painted, and in Tocumwal I absolutely loved the beautiful old railway bridge.
“I walked the whole thing, and the river walk to the Terminus Hotel and back.
“I got quite a surprise by the mural of the warplane bursting from the back of the supermarket, and of

course, I noticed the aero theme at the water park too — where I just had to press the button even though it was a freezing day.
“And the lady at the visitor centre was just so lovely.
“I had heard about the aero museum there, but did not get a chance to see it this time.”
Jan has now made her way to Tassie for the summer, but will be back in the region early next year to traverse the North West Silo Trail.
She has her tour map roughly worked out up until June 2026, and said anyone thinking of ditching their four walls, buying a home on wheels and just hitting the road should “go for it”.
“I just love the bush, and if I can camp by water ... even better.
“You never know what’s around the corner, and Australia is just such a beautiful country.
“I’ve been travelling for seven years, and now I have visited every state, but I still feel like I’ve barely seen any of it.”
To follow Jan’s personal photo blog, search ‘WHERE the HECK is JAN’ on Facebook.

This unique attraction combines a vibrant retro diner with a fascinating transport museum, making it the perfect spot for families, road trippers and anyone with a love for classic cars and nostalgic charm.
The Depot Historic Vehicle & Memorabilia Collection is a treasure trove of motoring history. Step inside and you’ll find an impressive collection of vintage vehicles, motorcycles and memorabilia that celebrate Australia’s automotive past. From gleaming classic cars to quirky petrol pumps and retro signage, every corner tells a story of the open road. It’s a must-see for enthusiasts and a fun discovery for curious visitors.
After exploring the museum, head next door to the Cruzin* Diner, where the 1950s come alive. Think checkerboard floors, neon lights and cosy booths that transport you straight into a scene from Grease. The menu is packed with diner favourites — juicy burgers, loaded fries, thick milkshakes and indulgent sundaes. It’s the perfect place to refuel and soak up the retro atmosphere.
And with a new indoor play zone installed to celebrate their fifth birthday in July 2025, the kids can burn off energy without anyone having to brave the sometimes intense summer heat.

Explore charming villages
While Deniliquin is the main centre of the Edward River region, there’s more to explore in the areas that surround it.
Discover the warmth of true country hospitality in the villages that surround Deni. Share a yarn with locals at the pub, soak up the atmosphere at the weekend footy, and uncover echoes of our pioneering spirit at every turn.
It’s more than a visit — it’s a real taste of life on the land.
Our friends at Visit Deni outline below why a visit to our villages is a must while in the region.
Blighty
Just a relaxed half-hour drive east toward Finley and Albury lies the village of Blighty — a tiny community of about 400 people with a big heart. While there are no shops, Blighty’s essentials say it all: a primary school, a pub, and footy and netball grounds — proof of a place built on family, community and connection.
Booroorban
Once a stop on the historic Cobb and Co route, the Royal Mail Hotel is the heart of Booroorban — and its only commercial building. Located on the vast Hay Plains, Booroorban also features a small camping ground and caravan park, and nearby you’ll find the
Burraburoon Farm Stay, a working sheep station with unique accommodation options like a converted train carriage. The area nods to local legend with a Headless Horseman-themed bar and sculpture at the Black Swamp rest area, adding a touch of folklore to this charming outback stop.
Conargo
Just 25 minutes north-east of Deniliquin, Conargo offers breathtaking sunsets and starry skies, along with a rich pastoral history dating back to its gazettal in 1860 as part of Benjamin Boyd’s empire. Set on the banks of the Billabong Creek — thought to be Australia’s longest — this proud village remains a hub for sheep stations and Merino studs, with heritage celebrated through interpretive signage in the village centre, known as the Conargo Historic Walk. Visitors can explore the restored 19th-century Drop Log Stables from the old Cobb and Co coach stop, admire a charming 1914 bush church, and enjoy a drink at the rebuilt Conargo Hotel.
Mayrung
With a population of around 150, Mayrung is a small village with a big role in the region’s agricultural life,
thanks to irrigation that supports thriving rice and grain production. Just 30km from Deniliquin, it offers a scenic drive through ever-changing landscapes and stands as a great example of how rural communities stay strong, supported by a local primary school and a shared connection to the land.
Pretty Pine
Just 20 minutes from Deniliquin, Pretty Pine is a small but welcoming community best known for its historic pub — once the final stop on the Cobb and Co route. Families can enjoy the nearby Pretty Pine Rec Grounds with a playground, football oval and cricket pitch.
Wanganella
Nestled on the picturesque Billabong Creek, Wanganella is famous as the birthplace of the Peppin Merino sheep breed, and a bronze statue at Wanganella Station commemorates its significance. Just 45 minutes north of Deniliquin, the village offers a scenic escape with breathtaking sunsets and starry skies, perfect for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Visitors can explore local tracks, waterways and picnic spots, or try fishing in serene surroundings.

Deniliquin Lions Community Town Market
is held on the 4th Saturday of each month in the beautiful Waring Gardens in the centre of town from 8am*.

Opening on December 1, the fresh new menu focuses on bistro favourites and family dining.
This includes several classics such as steaks and schnitzels, an extensive house-made pasta menu, fresh seafood and a kids’ menu, providing a delicious dining experience for the whole family.
The bistro is open for lunch from 11am to 2.30pm and dinner from 5pm to 8.30pm, from Wednesday to Monday, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday.
Before or after your meal, you can enjoy the beauty of this golf course, alongside the kangaroos, kookaburras, superb parrots, echidnas, goannas, lizards, pelicans and a host of other wildlife that abound in this paradise of nature.
Deniliquin Golf Course, with its 18 manicured fairways and true greens, is a shining example of Australia’s magnificent golf courses.
The course perfectly reflects an opportunity for all golfing standards to enjoy a fun and challenging round.
By modern standards, the course is not long — 5817 metres, par 72 for men, and 5118 metres, par 72 for ladies. However, off the back tees, it is a challenge for all levels of player, as many professionals who have tried to tame the course have discovered.
Poor shots find the huge trees, or perhaps a creek or other water hazard. There are contrasting holes, with the ‘back six’ having been reconstructed to form part of the town’s levee bank system. The greens are fast but true, and always in great condition.
A feature of Deniliquin Golf Course is the ‘same-day play’ principle that applies. On most days, you can phone the pro shop on (03) 5881 3333 to book your tee-off time, or just call in and one of the friendly
Stay, play and tempt the taste buds
There’s an extra reason to visit the Deniliquin Golf Club this summer. In addition to its amazing golf course on the edge of the Murray Valley Regional Park — yet just a stone’s throw from the centre of town — and the onsite Deni Golf Resort, the golf club is now home to the aptly named Flagstick Bistro.
volunteer staff will cater for your golfing needs. If you prefer the relaxation of a golf cart, there are plenty of those available too.
After your round on the course, enjoy the club’s facilities or relax under the verandah.
Friday nights are a speciality in the clubhouse, with meat raffles, great meals and a fun atmosphere where locals will make you feel welcome. For the latest information on clubhouse opening hours and activities, phone (03) 5881 1325.
If you want to practise your game, the club has an undercover driving range, which features an automated ball dispenser and lighting, allowing extended play on your terms. It’s simply a matter of getting a token or swiping your credit card to get a bucket of balls and work on your swing.
Visitors are also encouraged to enter any of the club’s regular competitions, which are listed on its website. These include medley events every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Keep an eye out for special charity days and competitions too, which are listed on the club website — www.denigolfclub.com.au
If you’re looking for a trip away, the Deni Golf Resort has you covered with a range of packages designed to take the stress out of finding accommodation.
Its 22 units overlook the ninth fairway and are nestled among bushland. It’s just 30m from the resort to the first tee, and an even shorter distance to the bushwalk track.

Riverfront charm and heritage

Step back in time...
Explore the Moulamein Heritage Village which features the historic Werai Horse Stables, Jeraly Woolshed and more. Discover farming history, vintage machinery and a unique community venue.

Tucked away in a tranquil bend of the Edward and Billabong rivers, Moulamein — the oldest town in the Riverina — offers an unforgettable summer getaway that captures the essence of rural NSW.
The town’s name nods to its Aboriginal origins, meaning “meeting of the water,” and a serene union of landscapes beckons visitors to unwind and explore. Visiting in summer offers long, warm days ideal for winding walks and riverside relaxation.
Begin your visit with the scenic Moulamein River Walk, a self-guided trail along the Edward River and Billabong Creek. Towering river red gums provide shade for spotting native wildlife — including kangaroos, goannas, and kookaburras — and storytelling signboards mark the Wamba Wamba people’s enduring cultural ties. At the statutory midpoint sits the iconic Big Tree, a majestic 11m circumference River Red Gum estimated to be between 300 and 500 years old. It’s not just a natural giant, but a heritage symbol for community gatherings.
You can then step back into the 19th-century vibrancy of the river port era at the Old Moulamein Wharf. It’s a wooden reminder of paddle-steamers, with interpretive plaque displays. Across town, impressive heritage sites beckon. This includes the 1890 Moulamein courthouse, and the preserved Moulamein Heritage Village, complete with an old schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and Mooloomoon Shearing Shed. The Heritage Village offers visitors a hands-on glimpse into the daily lives of early settlers, farmers, and shearers. The site also showcases machinery, tools, and donated artefacts like a Buffalo Pitt traction engine, bringing local history vibrantly to life.
With picnic facilities, toilets, and strong accessibility, Moulamein is a welcoming destination for families, school groups, and heritage lovers. Enrich your visit by exploring each building at your own pace, stepping back into rural NSW life. Every exhibit tells a rich story of resilience, innovation, and community spirit.
For a little rest and relaxation, Moulamein Lake offers a calm haven where black swans glide through open skies — perfect for family picnics, barbecues, or quiet afternoon swims. The nearby Edward River Boat Ramp makes the town a local favourite for fishing and camping along the waterways. Refresh and refuel at one of the local eateries, or the Moulamein Art Gallery & Café.
Moulamein may be small in size, but its storytelling heart and natural beauty make it a true discovery.
A family adventure worth the trip

If you’re looking for the perfect excuse to pack the car, gather the kids, and enjoy an unforgettable regional escape, mark Saturday, March 7 in Jerilderie on your calendar.
The Jerilderie Fun Fair will be set against the picturesque backdrop of Monash Park Oval. This beloved twilight event is quickly becoming one of the Riverina’s must-see annual celebrations.
Now in its fourth year, the fair continues to grow, drawing families, day-trippers, and holiday-makers from across the region. Designed to be fun, affordable, and welcoming for all, entry is just $10 for adults. Kids enter free, and once you’re inside, all the rides are free too. It’s the kind of value that makes parents smile and kids cheer.
This year’s line-up promises plenty of reasons to arrive early and stay late. Thanks to generous community sponsors, visitors can spin, laugh, and scream on the Cha Cha, which joins an impressive suite of attractions for thrill-seekers big and small. Local favourite Shane McGrath Music will light up the stage from 5pm, creating the perfect soundtrack as the sun sets and the park comes alive with colour and energy.
One of last year’s most beloved highlights — the twilight cinema — is returning. It will transform the oval into an open-air movie experience that brings families together under the stars. But the newest addition is set to steal the show — chicken races! Making their Jerilderie debut, these quirky, crowd-pleasing races are guaranteed to have everyone laughing and cheering from the sidelines. The first race kicks off at 4.30pm, and we know you’ll want a front-row seat.
A wander through the bustling market lanes is a treat in itself. Visitors can browse an array of handcrafted goods and homemade delights, including sweet treats and local snacks, home-grown produce, wooden crafts and garden décor, macramé, jewellery and children’s toys, and sewn goods and artisan creations. Whether you’re hunting for the perfect gift, supporting local makers, or just enjoying a browse, the market stalls offer a slice of community charm you won’t find anywhere else.
If you’ve been searching for the perfect weekend getaway or a family adventure that promises memories without the price tag, the Jerilderie Fun Fair is calling. Pack a picnic rug, bring your sense of adventure, and discover why this smalltown fair is fast becoming a tourism favourite.
