On Thursday, June 3rd, about 40 professionals from 9 MA ins=tu=ons gathered at Emerson College for MCPA's Second Annual Administra=ve Assistant Workshop. The day was a =me to celebrate our Administra=ve Assistants and rejoice in the impact and difference they make in the lives of students, faculty, staff and parents. It is great to take one day out of the year to focus on those people who share so much of themselves with us and the success of our offices. Our Second Annual Administra=ve Workshop kicked off as Jonathan Kroll, co-‐founder of iBelieve and Residence Director at Emerson College, talked with the group about the no=on of belief, specifically posi=ve belief, as a means of brining success into their life. He addressed the concept that the way someone responds to an image, person, sen=ment, etc. can affect one's demeanor and mannerism. He challenged the group to greet challenges with more of a posi=ve approach in an effort to be bucket fillers. The group was invited to par=cipate in group ac=vi=es and discussion that fostered this behavior. He asked the group to consider tone of voice, facial expression and body language in communica=ng with others. This surely gave the group food for thought and started off the day right! AWer Jonathan’s address, aYendees were invited to aYend two groups of breakout sessions that focused on mo=va=ng students, working with difficult situa=ons, helping stressed out students manage challenge, providing good customer service, etc. AYendees walked away with some prac=cal knowledge on how to con=nue providing outstanding service to students, staff and supervisors. MCPA is happy to provide this workshop opportunity for our administra=ve staff as they are the backbone of our offices. We hope this becomes one of our tradi=ons, and we hope to provide addi=onal opportuni=es for professional development to our administra=ve assistants. We welcome feedback from aYendees, and we encourage volunteers to help with the planning of next year's workshop. VISIT US ONLINE TODAY:
PRESENTATION SPOTLIGHT: CUSTOMER SERVICE: NAVIGATING ADVERSITY PRESENTED BY:
Dawn Eades and Sara Mueller of MCPHS Dawn and Sara presented at our Administrative Assistant Workshop What Would We Do Without You:You Make a Difference (see info about the workshop to the left). One area covered in this session was the idea that in order to take care of others through customer service, you must first take care of yourself. Dawn and Sara offered these great tips for selfcare:
•Practice acceptance •Get organized, form a routine •Reduce time urgency •Take a break during the workday (e.g. lunch) or several “mini” breaks •Take time to chat with coworkers •Make quiet time to complete tasks •Identify projects or tasks that are exciting and rewarding •Balance your work schedule so that no one day or part of a day is “too much” •Consult regularly with your supervisor •Arrange your workspace so it is comfortable and comforting •Develop a “non-trauma” area of professional interest
