Welcome Message

Dear Participants,

Pre Congress Ultrasound Workshop

AhlanWahSalan! Marhaba! And Welcome back! Last year, this time, we were all busy gearing up for the World Diabetes Congress in Dubai. It was the first Congress of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in the Middle East and North Africa region. As hosts, we had great expectations with regards to the outcome of the Scientific Content, Participation and the impact the congress would have in the Region. We can proudly state that our team and the congressover delivered on the promises and the impact was truly astounding! As quoted by Sir Michael Hirst, IDF President Elect, in the April 2012 issue (vol:57) of the Diabetes Voice; “Dubai’s promotional tagline, ‘The Meeting Place of the World’, rang true when more than 15,000 participants gathered in Dubai for the World Congress, making it the most successful Congress ever organized by the IDF.” Nowlooking ahead, the burden is heavier; the challenge more complex and bigger; and the need to address Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases more urgent. As the Congress President, I have a vision - “To reduce the burden of the disease across our region”. We are united in our stance and the foundation of this vision lies where we left-off in 2009 & 2010, i.e. Education and Knowledge Sharing. These are the corner stones to buildwhat I consider the front-line force to subjugate the disease. So with this as the premise, EDC is reiterating its efforts togather a world class panel of expert speakers, both from international and regional communities, to address a number of key areas and help develop and articulate strategies and protocols that would be beneficial both at the macro and micro level. Ladies and Gentlemen, it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all once again to the Emirates Diabetes & Endocrine Congress 2012 (www.edec-uae.com); the region’s premier Diabetes and Endocrine education and networking Congress. The event will be held from11 to 13 October, 2012 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. This year the scientific discourse will be moderated and presented by experts from various scientific backgrounds which will include academic scholars, researchers, physicians and paramedics representing both regional and international perspectives. “Exploring the Shift in the Paradigm of Endocrinology and Diabetes in the Middle East” The 2012-Congress will focus on vital and relevant topics concerning our patients in the region andrunparallel sessions which will include hands-on courses and workshops designed to build capacity. Additionally this year, we are inviting the participants to submit scientific posters to augment the topics (listed below) and the Best 3 Posters chosen by the Scientific Panel will receive awards. Scientific topics discussed at the Congress include: Review of local and International Diabetes Treatment Guidelines Risk Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease in Diabetes Metabolic Consequences of Bariatric Surgery Advances in Incretin Based Therapy Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Gestational Diabetes Mellitus New Insights into the Management of Dyslipidemia Metabolic Consequences of Testosterone Deficiency Long-term Management and Follow up of Thyroid Cancer Metabolic Bone Diseases and Osteoporosis Vitamin-D Deficiency Hyperprolactinemia and Pituitary Tumours Endocrine Hypertension Paediatric Endocrinology The conference will be an excellent opportunity to interact with colleagues from all over the world, share views and create an opportunity for collaboration and building your community of partners. I look forward to meeting you all in Dubai in October 2012, what promises to be the best Scientific Congress on Diabetes and Endocrinology in our region. Thanks and Kind regards,

Dr Abdulrazzaq Ali Al Madani Congress President
