elcome to the latest addition of McHale Plant Sales Newsletter. I hope you get a chance to read it and it will provide some relevant and interesting information for you. We announce our appointment as Importers for Ireland and Northern Ireland for Zetor Tractors. Zetor has been represented here since 1946 and we are very much looking forward to the opportunity of distributing such a well known brand to the agricultural industry.

Articles are included on service related topics which are more relevant than ever as the ability to have low operating costs is of increasing importance. We look at Komatsu’s new Parallel Link undercarriage system for Bulldozers that considerably lengthens undercarriage life. The Komatsu extended warranty product, Maintenance Plus (M+), is detailed and we show the benefits to the customer of making this investment. We also explain how Komatsu has introduced new engine technology that is required to meet current emission standards. Our customer profiles include two cork based waste companies, Waste Recovery Services and Cork Mini Skips. Kleemann announce some new global models of their renowned mobile crushers and we look at a McCloskey screen in a coal application. New Model PC130-8 helps to improve the environment


aste Recovery Services (WRS) is one of Ireland’s leading skip hire and recycling companies, with a reputation for high levels of quality service in the Munster area. Covering an area of Cork, East Waterford and South Tipperary, with over 20 years experience in the industry, they are widely known for their innovation and creativity in the management and recycling of waste. WRS continue to invest in new equipment and technology with the addition of the new Komatsu PC130-8 hydraulic excavator to their existing Komatsu fleet in order to produce a woodchip that can be reintroduced into the industry and converted to a variety of products, including panel board manufacture and a large portion of their product goes to woodchip for animal bedding and equestrian surfacing. They also have developed a superior recycled woodchip that is suitable for biomass production and reaches the high standards demanded by producer companies. The PC130-8, a 13-tonne machine, was designed for urban and construction sites. The machine offers an unrivalled machine management system, increased operator comfort, improved safety, amazing fuel efficiency and a low environmental impact. Like all machines in the Dash 8 range, the PC130-8 is fitted with Komtrax, Komatsu’s satellite monitoring system. Machine data is easily accessible over the internet and allows owners or fleet managers to view the machines location, performance and

service requirements. Komtrax can even help secure equipment, and will email the owner or fleet manager when a machine shows a caution alert or if it is activated outside an engine lock period. Designed to offer total safety for both the operator and people around the machine, the PC130-8 features Komatsu’s unique roll-over cab, specifically developed for hydraulic excavators. Over 1 million Euros were spent on testing this life saving feature, and the cab’s tubular steel frame protects the operator even if the machine rolls over. Furthermore, to help prevent accidents, the excavator includes a travel alarm, anti-slip steps and a rear-view camera which are all standard. The high drawbar pull and the clearance between the upper structure and the crawlers have been increased compared to the Dash 7 range. With its standard heated air suspension seat, the cab provides not only a fantastic comfortable working environment but also the quietest: the operator is only exposed to an amazingly low 68 dB(A) whilst in the cab. Standard on the PC130-8 is the largest full colour monitor panel on the market. This ergonomic finger tip controlled operating panel allows easy access to work modes, cab-climate control and a full colour image from the rear mounted camera. The PC130-8 is available with optional rubber road liners. Quick coupler piping is fitted as standard to allow convenient and rapid changes of attachments. An extra attachment circuit, controlled by sliding

proportional joystick buttons is also fitted as standard, suitable for either crusher or breaker. As an option, an additional rotation circuit is available. The operator can choose between 5 Working Modes to optimise performance and fuel usage. The Eco gauge on the right side of the monitor panel lets him see at a glance just how hard the machine is working. In Economy Mode, and with Komtrax activated, fuel usage can be easily monitored for maximum fuel efficiency and minimum nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

The PC130-8 has a single, dual element pump, giving it exceptional combined operation. It’s ecological credentials are further boosted by its powerful yet efficient SAA4D95LE-5 Komatsu engine. Part of Komatsu’s innovative ECOT3 range, this electronically controlled high-pressure common-rail engine is fully compliant with EU Stage IIIA emissions. The engine is very quiet to run and, together with a unique low noise design, ensures the PC130-8 meets EU noise regulations with a dynamic external noise of just100 dB(A).

Komatsu hybrid system for construction equipment receives the JSME Medal for new technology from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers


omatsu Ltd., received the Fiscal 2010 JSME Medal for New Technology selected and conferred by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) for the development of the Hybrid System for Construction Equipment at the award ceremony held as part of JSME's general meeting. Created in 1958 to encourage the growth of Japan's mechanical engineering and industry, the JSME award is one of the most prestigious technology awards in Japan. This is the second award given to Komatsu, following the Fiscal 1989 award. The Hybrid System for Construction Equipment reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the following manner. The electric motor to turn the upper structure of the hybrid hydraulic excavator converts kinematic energy, regenerated when the turning of the upper structure slows down, into electric energy. This electric energy is then stored in the capacitor and is reused for the next turning of the upper structure. It is also reused through the power-generating motor as assistant energy to accelerate the engine revolution speed. Construction equipment generates over 90% of total CO2 emissions, due to the fuel which is consumed when it is used by customers throughout its life cycle of production, use and disposal. Thus, lowered fuel consumption directly reduces CO2 emissions.

For the JSME Medal for New Technology, the JSME evaluates not only the originality and excellence of the concerned technology, but also the social contribution and business result factors. We introduced our hybrid hydraulic excavator on the market for the first time in the world in June 2008. In December last year in Japan, we launched sales of the new HB205 and 215LC with improved general-purpose applicability and productivity compared to our first hybrid model, which is in operation mainly in Japan and China today. The JSME Medal reflects not only the technological excellence of our Hybrid System but also good sales of the first models. apan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11 this year was an event which had tragic consequences for the Japanese people, with over 15,000 killed and over 125,000 buildings destroyed .

Net income climbed to 55.7 billion yen ($715 million) in the three months ended March 31, from 30.7 billion yen a year earlier. Full year profit will rise 33% to 200 billion yen in the year ending March 31, 2011.

Also severely affected were six of Komatsu’s manufacturing and supply operations on Japan’s east coast, with production stopping or being severely constrained in the days and weeks following the earthquake. Immediately following the earthquake, Komatsu Group formed an emergency task force headed by Kunio Noji, the company President and CEO.This task force placed its top priority on individual human lives and safety, leading group-wide efforts to confirm the safety of employees and their families in Komatsu Group, including distributors, and suppliers, as well as providing assistance to affected people.

In Japan, Komatsu Group has been a significant contributor to relief and recovery efforts, with donations of cash, housing and shelter, equipment and scholarships totalling one billion Japanese yen ($11.843 million).

Despite the massive damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami, by the end of March, all production facilities were back in operation, thanks to unprecedented efforts by Komatsu Group staff throughout Japan. In addition to the disruptions at Komatsu’s own facilities, port and transport infrastructure was severely damaged, which impacted on ability to ship products from Japan. Deliveries of some products to customers around the World were affected by these events, including some items of large mining equipment – but now, six months after the earthquake, our production and distribution chain is completely back to normal. In addition, Komatsu as a whole is continuing to increase profits, despite the disruption from the earthquake. In late July, Komatsu Ltd reported an 82% gain in first-quarter profit, aided by rising demand in North America and Southeast Asia.

This included scholarships to students of national technical colleges located in the devastated areas of Tohoku and northern Kanto regions, designed to support those students who are expected to work for Japan's manufacturing industries in the future. Separately, Komatsu Ltd and Rio Tinto have agreed to fund a 10-year 400 million yen scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Tohoku University, which was severely affected by the disaster. As the recovery and rebuilding efforts have continued, there has been a significant increase in demand for construction equipment – with orders for Japanese construction equipment up 30% for the second quarter of 2011 compared with the same period a year earlier. This is particularly spurring demand for excavators and wheel loaders. The earthquake/tsunami is reckoned to be the most expensive natural disaster on record. While early figures estimated insured losses from the earthquake alone at $14 billion to $35 billion, the final overall cost could exceed $300 billion – a truly staggering amount.

Komatsu Stage 3B Engine Technology


ased on Komatsu proprietary technologies developed over many years, the new diesel engine reduces exhaust gas particulate matter (PM) by more than 90% and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by more than 45%--when compared to current Stage 3A levels--while still consuming less fuel. Komatsu’s Stage 3B engine technology includes: • Newly designed variable geometry turbocharger • Newly designed DPF (diesel particulate filter) Heavy duty HPCR (high-pressure common rail) fuel injection system • Larger more robust cooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system • Redesigned combustion chamber at top of piston

Komatsu has integrated this Stage 3B technology into construction and mining engines ranging in size from 3.3- to 46-liter2. Through Komatsu’s in-house development and production of engines, hydraulic units, control systems and major components, the company has attained exceptional machine performance under a variety of operating conditions. Komatsu customers have come to expect outstanding quality and performance, and these Stage3B powered machines are designed to meet customer expectations while improving the environment and fuel consumption.

1. Variable Geometry Turbo System A newly designed variable geometry turbocharger features Komatsu proprietary technology that varies the air-flow and delivers optimum air quantity to the engine combustion chamber under all speed and load conditions. The result is cleaner exhaust gas and improved fuel economy while maintaining power and performance. 2. Diesel Particulate Filter Komatsu has designed and developed a high efficiency diesel particulate filter that captures more than 90% of PM. Passive and active regeneration is initiated automatically by the engine controller as needed to burn the particulates while the engine is running allowing uninterrupted machine operation. A special oxidation catalyst with fuel injection system eliminates the need for a traditional fuel burner thereby reducing maintenance costs and increasing reliability. 3. Heavy Duty HPCR(High-Pressure Common Rail) System Computer controlled heavy duty HPCR system delivers a precise quantity of pressurized fuel into the engine combustion chamber using multiple injections to achieve complete fuel burn and reduce exhaust emissions. Fuel injector life has been improved through the use of ultra-hard wear resistant materials such as diamond-like carbon. 4. Heavy Duty Cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) System Cooled EGR, a technology well-proven in existing Komatsu engines, has increased capacity to further reduce NOx to Tier 4 levels. Larger more robust components ensure reliable performance during the demanding work conditions of construction equipment. 5. New Combustion System The fuel/air combustion chamber located at the top of the engine piston has a new shape designed to improve combustion and further reduce NOx, PM, fuel consumption and noise. 6. Electronic Control System The engine and machine work equipment function in harmony as the electronic control system performs highspeed processing of information from sensors throughout the machine. The result is reduced fuel consumption, noise, NOx and PM.

New Komatsu PC118MR-8 excavator offers more versatility.


he PC118MR-8 crawler excavator was designed at the Komatsu European Technical Centre in Hanover. This new model is the result of synergy between a joint team of Japanese and European researchers who integrated the most advanced technology from Japan in machines that match the specific requirements of the European market. Built by Komatsu Utility Europe in Este, Italy, a factory that manufactures and distributes worldwide, Komatsu machines under 12 tonnes , the new excavator has an engine power of 72 kW (ISO 14396) and operating weight of 11,800 kg. The detailed design of the PC118MR-8 ensures outstanding versatility and great mobility in confined work spaces. Thanks to a small turning radius and compact size, this excavator is the ideal machine for road construction and urban job sites. Among other features, it is equipped with an ecot3 engine meeting EU Stage IIIA regulations, with auto idling, with an ECO-gauge and with 5 different working modes. The electronically controlled common-rail injection was carefully designed to optimize productivity, fuel consumption and CO2

emissions. The hydraulic closed centre load sensing system (CLSS) provides power, speed and perfect control of all combined movements. The new Komatsu excavator offers more versatility and exceptional comfort to the most demanding operators. In small and tight spaces, the sliding door allows easy entry and exit to and from a spacious cabin. The double slide mechanism of the seat and Pressure Proportional Control (PPC) levers lets them be adjusted conveniently for working in an optimal position, for maximum productivity and minimal fatigue. The PPC joysticks are also characterized by a high grip and short stroke and their new smooth proportional thumb switches offer improved versatility and controllability, and guarantee added precision with less finger fatigue when working with attachments. The new automatic air conditioning system is ideal in any season; the structure of the ROPS cab conforms to the latest ISO regulations, the cab windows offer 360 degrees visibility and the wide opening roof top and side and rear view mirrors help to provide increased safety for the operator and the people working around the machine.

To broaden the range of possible applications, the oil flow of the auxiliary circuit is controlled on a large screen LCD monitor featuring intuitive buttons easily accessible and controllable by the operator. Maximum oil flow can be set according to the specific needs of the attachment in use. A second auxiliary line, available on request, is also controlled by a lever switch to allow maximum flexibility and controllability to an even wider range of attachments. On request, the PC118MR-8 can be further customized with a two-piece boom, with an extra counterweight, road-liners and an auxiliary circuit for the hydraulic quick coupler, adjustable for low or high pressure. The PC118MR-8 is equipped with the latest version of KOMTRAX™, Komatsu’s exclusive satellite monitoring system. Machine data, including location, performance, fuel consumption and maintenance requirements, is easily accessible over the internet. Owners or fleet managers are informed of the machine’s operational

status, without having to attend the site in person. KOMTRAX™ can be configured to send an email to a designated person, for instance when the machine shows a caution alert or if it is activated during an engine lock period.

Mobirex EVO plants – a global success story


good year after the market launch of the new generation of mobile impact crushers, the plants have since been used for the most diverse applications the world over. When a new machine is developed from scratch, the moment of truth – the market launch – always strikes sooner or later, and no matter how well or how diligently the preparations and testing work may have been, this is a time when various questions arise. How will the machine be received by the customers? Will it truly live up to the promise it showed during its development and prototype testing? Will the machine be a market success? One year after the market launch, all of these questions can be answered with a clear "yes".

The right technical concept pays off In terms of performance and fuel consumption, both the MR 110 and the MR 130 have demonstrated what is possible in their size class when the right concept is applied. The new material flow concept, which ensures that there is no restriction to the flow of the material, successfully prevents blockages, reduces wear and increases the performance of the entire plant. Factors contributing to this include proven Kleemann components as well as further developed components, such as the active double-deck prescreen, the vibrating discharge chute as well as the all new crusher with its new innovative inlet geometry and new rotor ledges technology. The fully automatic hydraulic gap setting system of the crushing jaw, which is unique in the market, also substantially improves not only the quality of the final product but also the availability of the plant in combination with the effective overload protection system.

Successful the world over An MR 110 Z EVO plant has recently been proving its worth in the field of recycling in Xuchang in the Province of Henan, China, crushing demolition material. The feed material has an average size of 0 - 900 mm, in some cases even 1,000 mm, and is crushed to a size of 0 - 32 mm. The material is then recycled for use in the manufacture of various products, such as cement and bricks, or is used as a subgrade material in road construction. Performance tests showed feed capacities of as much as 350 t/h. According to David Zhao of Wirtgen Group sales and service company Wirtgen China, the customer already had experience with other makes, but only the Kleemann plant can fulfil its demands in terms of reliability and performance. Another example is in Sydney, Australia, where an MR 130 ZS EVO is also being used for recycling. Diverse materials are being processed here, demonstrating the great versatility of the plant: asphalt, bricks, tiles, concrete and demolition material with dimensions of up to 700 mm are crushed to various sizes from 0 - 40 mm. These materials are being recycled and used for road construction, as well as in gabions and decorative applications. The decisive factors for the customer were the high average performance of more than 300 t/h, the robust design and machine features such as the active pre-screen and the diesel-electric drive system with direct crusher drive. The new plants are also demonstrating their capabilities when it comes to natural stone, for example in a limestone application in Switzerland. Or in France, where an MR 110 Z EVO processes up to 3,000 tonnes of bauxite in an 8-hour shift. According to Michael Schwarz, Area Sales Manager at Kleemann GmbH, the customer is particularly impressed by the hourly capacity and low diesel consumption.

Conclusion: market launch more than successful These are just a few examples of many successful projects around the world. Time and again, the plants are impressing Kleemann customers with their tremendous performance, their low fuel consumption and wear and, not least, the broad range of applications they can handle. And so, the questions posed at the start of this article can be answered not only with a clear "yes", but with a resounding "Yes, and how!"

With a flywheel horsepower of 325 hp (242 kW), the HM300-3 is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D125E-6 engine that is EU Stage IIIB and EPA Tier 4 Interim emission certified. Built upon a proven EU Stage IIIA engine platform, Komatsu has leveraged its leadership in technology and innovation to design an environmentally friendly dump truck with more power and lower fuel consumption. The HM300-3 features a gross vehicle weight 52,230 kg with a payload of 28.1 tonnes at its maximum ground speed of 58.6 km/h. The D65-17 is built upon the proven Komatsu technology used for the EU Stage IIIA emission regulation. Komatsu has leveraged its leadership in technology and innovation to design an environmentally friendly engine that increases net power while decreasing an additional 5% fuel consumption over the EU Stage IIIA model it replaces. A standard (EX), low ground pressure (PX) and a wide track (WX) model are available to offer customers flotation and weight distribution options that best match their applications. Operating weight ranges from 22 tonnes to 23.8 tonnes depending on the version. The new models push with a net (ISO 9249 / SAE J1349) 205 HP at 1950 rpm. ith the introduction of the PC240LC-10 hydraulic excavator to the European market, Komatsu announces the launch of their new “dash 10” range. “Dash 10” machines feature improved efficiency, lower fuel consumption, better operator comfort, and enhanced serviceability to maximize productivity and lower operating costs. Weighing in at up to 26100 kg, the PC240LC-10 is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D107E-2 engine with a flywheel horsepower of 177 hp (132 kW), and is EU Stage IIIB / EPA Tier 4 Interim emission certified. Built upon the proven Komatsu Tier 3 engine platform, the new excavator leverages Komatsu’s leadership in technology and innovation to deliver an environmentally friendly engine with 5% more power and up to 10% less fuel consumption. A fully automatic switchable auto-deceleration system can reduce fuel usage during idle conditions by up to 30%. Highly Efficient Hydraulic System

All major components on the new PC240LC-10 including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors and valves are exclusively designed and produced by Komatsu. This integrated design uses a closed centre load sensing hydraulic system (CLSS) which takes hydraulic efficiency to the next level with variable speed matching. Variable matching technology allows the engine speed to adjust itself based on the machine load throughout each individual working cycle. Additional enhancements made within the hydraulic system reduce hydraulic loss and result in better efficiency and lower fuel consumption. •

Enhanced Operator Comfort

A new, fully air suspended operator control station, incorporates the side consoles mounted together with a high back, fully adjustable seat, heated for improved comfort. The new cab, with ROPS compliance to ISO 12117:2008, is specifically designed for hydraulic excavators and provides a comfortable and quiet work environment where operators can maximize their productivity. The cab gains strength from a reinforced tubular skeleton framework. Viscous damper mounts provide low vibration levels, further enhancing fine control and reducing operator fatigue. An auxiliary input has been added to connect an MP3 player or other device that uses a standard auxiliary plug along with two 12 volt ports that are also included in the cab. A new high resolution 7” LCD monitor features enhanced capabilities and displays information in 25 languages for global support. The operator can easily select up to six working modes to match machine performance to the application. These working modes include Power Mode, Economy Mode, Heavy Lift Mode, Breaker Mode, Attachment Power Mode and Attachment Economy Mode. The new Attachment Economy Mode, allows attachments to be used without compromising machine efficiency. The new monitor panel also provides operational guidance, an Economy gauge adjustable to match desired fuel consumption level, operational records, detailed fuel consumption history, and utilization information while a standard rear view camera lets the operator see directly behind the machine. • Convenient Maintenance and Serviceability The PC240LC-10 provides easy service access in order to reduce costly downtime. Routine service points are quickly accessible from ground level and handrails surround the upper structure for easier and safer accessibility. The radiator and hydraulic oil cooler are mounted side by side, making it simpler to maintain and service these two components when required, while the air conditioning condenser is hinged to allow even easier access. Access steps are provided in all naturally convenient positions to allow safe and quick access to the engine bay. The machine is equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which has enhanced diagnostic features that give operators and technicians greater monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities. EMMS also continuously monitors all critical systems, preventative maintenance, and provides trouble shooting assistance to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

S130 McCloskey Vibrating Screeners to increase efficiency at M&G Solid Fuels


ith screening efficiency high on the agenda for M&G Solid Fuels, the company has recently taken delivery of two more McCloskey S130 Vibrating Screeners from Aggregate Processing and Recycling (APR) the UK distributor for McCloskey. Founded in 1983 as M&G Fuels Ltd, the company originally processed imported cargoes of coal which were screened, washed, re-screened and sold to appropriate markets. With increasing tonnages a second site at Redcar was eventually opened with the company screening over 1 million tonnes of coal per annum. The company also imports Petroleum Coke, which is again screened with the fines being used at their own Briquetting Plant to manufacture briquettes under the Burnwell Brand for domestic use. With screening being at the forefront of all operations, M&G need to rely on screens that can work in harsh environments with maximum efficiency. With over three year's usage of the McCloskey product, it wasn't a difficult decision to invest in another two S130 Vibrating Screens to further enhance the production process at their Redcar operation. They now operate six S130 Vibrating Screens and are slowly phasing out the other brands. Today the McCloskey S130 represents the most advanced 14' x 5' portable vibratory screening plant in production and is designed to meet the demands of operators who require significantly more screening capacity than a 10' 0", or an 11' 0" screen box can offer, without the massive throughput of a 20' 0" plant.

Ideal for coal screening, quarrying, recycled products, sand & gravel and crusher circuits the McCloskey S130 flat deck screener comes equipped with 130 square feet of screening area, across a 14' x 5' top deck and a 12' x 5' bottom deck. With this aggregate processing power comes flexibility. The McCloskey S130 screen box can be hydraulically angled between 25 and 38 degrees and the frequency can also be altered in situ thanks to the hydraulic drive system. This gives the McCloskey Screens advantages over the competition by allowing for easy setup to suit a wide range of materials, while the higher angle settings permit high production levels of sand screening that only McCloskey can offer. The 'S' range also boasts 15' hoppers as standard with the largest opening to the screen feed conveyor in its class. After 3 years of usage of McCloskey S130 screens, the production team have found them to be excellent. "They are very fast and reliable and unlike other brands in the market don't 'get tired' after an hour's work, running slowly or even stopping. McCloskey Screens have really taken us by surprise! They work at a constant high speed and give us consistently clean end products, and by ensuring that we don't have to rescreen material we keep our costs at a minimum."
