A NOTE FROM THE CEO Dear Valued Members, Winter is a time for gathering together, for seeking comfort and finding a respite from the predictably cold weather. In the chilly months ahead, it is so important to stay engaged in the things that strengthen community life. At McGaw YMCA, we offer exciting opportunities for all people to do just that—to experience what we are proud to call the McGaw Difference. Within the pages of this guide, you will find programming that reflects our continued focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This year, thanks to the generous support of so many members and donors, McGaw YMCA is able to provide sliding scale fees for Camp Echo and expanded early childhood learning at Head Start in Evanston’s 5th Ward. Now, more than ever, the McGaw Difference is touching the lives of people throughout Evanston. 4-LANE POOL Warm Water Pool: 25 yards, four lanes, primarily used for swim lessons, family swim, open swim, and select water fitness classes. 72 lengths to the mile. Water temperature maintained between 85–87° F.

LOCKERS • Men’s and women’s adult-only locker rooms • Everybody’s locker room with private changing rooms complete with shower, toilet facilities and changing table, for parents or guardians with children of any age, for people with disabilities and their caregivers, and for all genders. • Boys’ and girls’ locker rooms for grades 3–8 • Small and large rental lockers available, or bring a lock for daily use (items cannot be left overnight). YOUR MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES • Members of the McGaw YMCA receive parking passes for our lot. Enjoy free parking up to 2 hours per day while you work out. • Unlimited guest passes (see policy on page 6) • Up to two hours of free childcare with a family membership while you work out • Member rates and advance registration for our programs and classes • Membership privileges at more than 2,300 Ys across the country • Your choice of over 100 free group fitness classes & a one hour FREE Fitness Assessment • Tutoring for youth members in grades K–8; one hour per week. CUSTOMER SERVICE GUARANTEE Customer service is our highest priority. We are committed to providing services and activities that meet your expectations. If you are not fully satisfied with your membership or class, please contact any member of our Leadership team. AWAY Program (Always Welcome At the Y) When traveling, you can access more than 2,300 YMCAs across the country by showing your McGaw YMCA membership card. Some local restrictions and fees may apply, so please call ahead before your first visit. You can look up YMCAs by location at www.ymca.net.

MEMBERSHIP CARD All members receive a membership card when they join. Present your card every time you enter the building. For security reasons, each child on a family membership must have his/her own card and cannot be scanned in on an adult’s card. Members can scan in using the McGaw YMCA app (available in the Apple and Android stores). Members without cards may be denied access to the facility. If you lose your card, you can buy a replacement card for $5. We may suspend or terminate membership for anyone who falsifies a membership card, allows an unauthorized guest in the building, or engages in similar behavior.

MEMBERSHIP FOR ALL We’re proud of our commitment to serve our diverse community. Membership for All—pricing based on household income and family size— helps to make membership affordable to people of all economic means. To learn how Membership for All might affect your membership rates, stop by Member Relations with your most recent federal 1040 tax form to verify your eligibility. GUESTS Every member can bring an unlimited number of guests. You may bring up to four guests per visit and each guest can come to the Y as a guest up to three times per year. After the third visit the guest must purchase a daily pass. Guests must fill out all appropriate paperwork and a waiver at the Front Desk. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests while at the Y. We reserve the right to restrict guests from using the Y when certain facilities are unavailable or when member traffic is high. All adult guests must present a valid government-issued photo ID.

Youth Guest Pass Policy Youth guests may purchase a daily guest pass to access the YMCA. An adult must accompany each guest younger than 11 years old.

PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIPS Limited scholarship funds, based on a member’s household income and family size, are available to McGaw YMCA members for adult swim lessons and most youth programs. A McGaw YMCA member who qualifies can receive up to a 50% reduction of one program/class fee per session. We apply scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis. To increase the likelihood of receiving scholarship funds, we strongly recommend that you register for a program as soon as member registration opens. Contact Member Relations for details.

MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION

REFUNDS

To cancel your membership and stop membership payments, please give us written notice by the 25th day of your last month of membership. For example, to cancel your membership in February, we must receive written notice by January 25. We will accept your written cancellation, including the name and address on your account, in person, by mail, or by email at info@McGawYMCA.org. It helps us to improve our quality of service if you share a detailed reason for your cancellation. To discuss cancellations, please call Member Relations at 847.475.7400 x0. Joiner’s fees and any monthly membership fees are non-refundable. We will refund annual membership fees on a prorated basis for the unused portion of the membership, minus a $25 service fee.

Once you register for a program, we will not refund or credit payment unless it is for medical reasons (Camp Echo and the Children’s Center have separate refund policies). If you withdraw from a class for medical reasons, please submit a physician’s note, and we may apply a pro-rated credit to your account, based on the number of remaining classes. All credits are valid for one year from their creation date. There is a $10 processing fee. We reserve the right to cancel programs. If you are registered for a program that is canceled, we will give you a full refund. Refunds will not be issued for amounts under $10.

MEMBERSHIP HOLDS You can put your membership on hold once per year, for up to 90 days at a time. Pay a one-time fee of $25 and submit a written request for a membership hold. We will stop your automatic monthly payments for up to 90 days, then automatically reinstate monthly billing after the hold period. If you wish to hold your membership, we must receive written notice of your request and payment by the 25th day of the month prior.

SECURITY Please be sure to secure your belongings while using the Y facilities. The McGaw YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please bring a lock to secure your items in the locker room. You can store valuables in our small keyless security lockers in the Wellness Center, men’s locker room, and everybody’s locker room. Overnight lockers in the locker rooms are also available for a monthly rental fee. For more information, please see any member relations staff at the Front Desk.

SAFETY POLICIES Because children and teens are an integral part of our mission and programming, we use a check-in system that scans government-issued identification and compares it against a national child sex offender registry. Members are regularly checked and need only bring their member ID. Non-members, including program participants and guests, must bring a valid identification that includes a photo and date of birth (such as a driver’s license or passport) each time they visit the McGaw YMCA. Convicted sex offenders will not be permitted to enter McGaw facilities, hold memberships, participate in programs, or live in the residence. It’s time to celebrate at the McGaw YMCA! What better place for your child to celebrate a birthday than at the McGaw Y? We have birthday party fun down to an art, and our facility is a giant playground for kids eager to run, climb, swim and play (and eat cake, of course). By the way, it doesn’t have to be a birthday party. If you’ve got anything to celebrate, we’ve got a party in store for you. PARTY OPTIONS: Gym or Pool for 1 hour $200 M / $250 NM With Party Room for 1 hour $250 M / $300 NM All pricing is the same unless noted otherwise. All parties accommodate up to 25 participants unless noted otherwise. SWIM & GYM PARTY AGE: 4+ years $325 M / $375 NM For 45 minutes kids are in the gym, then for 45 minutes they are in the pool. Then, take the party upstairs for an hour in a multi-purpose party room. Add to your party by including our optional inflatables for the pool or gym!

PRESCHOOL GYM PARTY AGE: 2–4 years The party starts with 30 minutes of open play on an indoor playground of mats, tunnels, toys, and foam shapes. Then our staff members lead 30 minutes of playground games.

BIG KID GYM PARTY AGE: 5–8 years The party starts with 30 minutes of open play with gym equipment. Then our staff members lead group games for 30 minutes. Finish with an hour in the party room for an additional charge. There is also the option to add an inflatable bounce house.

SPORTS GYM PARTY AGE: 5–12 years This party is for kids who can’t get enough sports! In the gym, we start with 30 minutes of staff-led drills and skills, then a 30-minute officiated scrimmage. There are several different sports themes to choose from, including basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, or floor hockey. Add an optional party room for an additional charge.

POOL PARTIES AGE: 4+ years Reserve our 4-lane, warm-water pool for 50 minutes of fun with your friends! We provide foam noodles and a supervising lifeguard. Then, as an option, take the party upstairs for an hour in a multi-purpose party room. Also add one of our pool inflatables for even more fun! NOTES: • At least one supervising adult must be present on the pool deck throughout the party. • At least one adult must accompany every five children ages 5–7 and every three children under 5 years old in the water.

Instructors use games, drills, and board-breaking to make the party an exciting and unique experience for party participants. After, continue the party in one of our party rooms for another hour of fun!

AGE: 9–14 years $415 M / $540 NM Does your child love making things, video games, and technology? Give your child an unforgetable birthday experience with a tech party at Metamedia! We prodive the location, technology, and the party instructors. You invite the guests, and we can do the rest! Birthday kid gets a great gift from the Y. Spend an hour tinkering, then choose from one of our party themes for a 30-minute instructor-led workshop. Finish with an hour in the party room to continue the fun! GRADE: 3rd–8th grade* Since 1924, young campers have enjoyed the wonders of summer camp on Camp Echo’s incredible peninsula location. “The Peninsula” remains the focal point of our traditional summer camp programs, which develop young campers through various camp activities, such as sailing, archery, arts & crafts, and more. Campers grow personally and learn to enjoy independence in a safe environment, while also working with their cabin mates to develop into a caring and successful group during their time together at Camp Echo.

GRADE: 6th– 12th grade* Camp Echo’s Adventure Trips are an experience unlike any other: kayaking among Lake Huron’s thousands of islands, cycling through northern Michigan’s breathtaking scenery, backpacking through spectacular Porcupine Mountains of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the list goes on. Camp Echo’s Adventure trips take the fun, community, and growth opportunities (self-confidence, group living, leadership, and technical outdoor skills) of summer camp on the road and expose participants to a whole new world of experiences.

GRADE: 9th– 11th grade* Camp Echo’s on-site teen programs offer older campers increased independence and responsibility, with some of the familiarity and routine of traditional summer camp. Camp Echo’s teen leadership programs are focused on preparing participants to become successful leaders in the camping environment and beyond. Participants work together to further their understanding of what it means to be a leader and how to facilitate successful groups of campers and peers, while taking on an increasingly active counseling role.

At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why our infant/toddler, preschool, and school age programs are staffed with teachers who understand the cognitive, physical, language, and social development of children. We respect and nurture your child’s need to feel connected and supported in exploring the world around them. At our center, babies develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their environment, and school-age children make friends, discover their interests, and receive homework assistance. We’re committed to building confident children today and bright futures tomorrow.

Our center houses two Infant class, three Toddler classes, six Full-Day Preschool classes, three PartDay Preschool classes and five School-Age classes. We also have an indoor playroom, 250-seat auditorium, large lunch/activity room, arts room, outdoor playgrounds, administrative offices, and an on-site enrollment office. Our programs use the McGaw YMCA pool, locker rooms and gymnasium for weekly swim and fitness activities!

INFANT & TODDLER CARE Let’s give them a great start! We think that the building blocks to a happy adulthood begin at the youngest age and we want to make sure that your child gets a chance to build relationships and develop their own personality, so they can grow up to be a secure and well-rounded adult. Our teachers know that children meet their milestones when they are ready, so we encourage each child to develop at their own pace.

SCHOOL’S OUT

AGE: K–5th grade In this afterschool program, youth are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and academic outcomes. Participants enjoy a daily snack, homework help, and choice-based enrichments each season of the year. Special enrichments are offered weekly and include swim lessons, art, youth sports, hip-hop dance, music, tae kwon do, tutoring, and so much more!

CAMPS WINTER BREAK HOLIDAY CAMP

AGES: K–5th grade March 26–30 Registration starts February 26 Get ready for a fun-filled week where we will celebrate the joys of spring! Our Spring Break Camp will be filled with spring-themed activities that will get us moving and embrace all that spring has to offer.

PART DAY PRESCHOOL Come explore with us! Here, children get to play, learn new skills, and are eased into a preschool setting, which prepares them for kindergarten. Your child will be with the same children and the same teachers every day, so they can easily form relationships and make friends.

FULL DAY PRESCHOOL Our preschoolers discover science, arts, healthy habits, literacy and more! We know how fast children that age develop and that they want to explore and learn, and here they can! Preschool at the Y is always exciting, from field trips and swimming lessons, to gym activities, music, and more!

SUMMER DAY CAMP

AGES: 1st–6th grade June 11–August 10 REGISTRATION: Priority:1/ 2/18 Member:1/ 15/18 General: 1/ 22/18 Day Camp is a fun, exciting, safe community where kids explore the outdoors, develop skills and make lasting friendships. Swimming, arts & crafts, games, and exciting field trips will make unforgettable experiences.

SCIENCE & NATURE IN THE WORLD AROUND US

AGES: 4th–6th grade 2 SESSIONS Connect with your inner Naturalist to explore local forest preserves through hands-on experiential activities. We’ll use hand lenses, field guides, and binoculars to take a closer look at nature!

THE ULTIMATE OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

AGES: 4th–6th grade 2 SESSIONS Bring your sense of adventure and take part in new skill building activities such as outdoor cooking, archery, fire building, and more! Daily adventures will connect us with the great outdoors and help us develop an appreciation for wilderness and nature!

YOUTH AQUATICS Whether taking lessons, or enjoying open or family swim, your kids stay fit, healthy and strong when they spend time in the water. Swimming also helps them gain confidence and improve coordination while having a great time. Aquatics Programs: January 13–March 23

THE Y DIFFERENCE What makes our swim lessons different? We use instructional flotation devices in our preschool classes to make it easier for kids to become more independent and gain endurance, a clear progression from one course to the next, and best of all, we have a low child/instructor ratio, so kids get more individual attention.

CROSS TRAINING (Trainer: Danny) 1WACROSS AGE: 18 years–Adult $155 M / $245 NM 10 weeks, Thursday | 6:15–7pm 1/18–3/ 22 10 weeks, Wednesday | 6:15–7pm 1/17–3/ 21 Cross Training takes the participant through a series of cardio & strength exercises with relatively brief rest in between. The purpose is to keep the heart rate elevated near the aerobic level without dropping off to ensure fast, dramatic fitness results. The program is fast paced and offers variety to give the body a diverse stimulus.

BASIC TRAINING (Trainer: Marilyn)

1WABTA AGE: 13 years–Adult $250 M / $330 NM 10 weeks, M/ W/ F | 6–7am | 1/15–3/ 23 Mix up your fitness routine, challenge yourself, and get new ideas for staying in shape while using limited fitness equipment in a group class. This is a full-body group workout that emphasizes proper form and working at your own pace.
