PROGRAM FEE ASSISTANCE

REFUNDS

Fee assistance funds are available to McGaw YMCA members for adult swim lessons and most youth programs, based on a member’s household income and family size. A McGaw YMCA member who qualifies can receive up to a 50% reduction of one program/class fee per session. We apply fee assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. To increase the likelihood of receiving fee assistance funds, we strongly recommend that you register for a program as soon as member registration opens. Contact Member Relations for details.

Once you register for a program, we will not refund or credit payment unless it is for medical reasons (Camp Echo and the Children’s Center have separate refund policies). If you withdraw from a class for medical reasons, please submit a physician’s note and we may apply a pro-rated credit to your account. All credits are valid for one year from their creation date. There is a $10 processing fee. We reserve the right to cancel programs. If you are registered for a program that is canceled, we will give you a full refund. Refunds will not be issued for amounts under $10.

MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION Please give us written notice by the 25th day of your last month of membership to cancel your membership and stop membership payments. For example, to cancel your membership in February, we must receive written notice by January 25. We will accept your written cancellation, including the name and address on your account, in person, by mail, or by email at info@McGawYMCA.org. Please share a detailed reason for your cancellation. To discuss cancellations, please call Member Relations at 847.475.7400 x0. Joiner’s fees and any monthly membership fees are non-refundable. SECURITY

SAFETY POLICIES Because children and teens are an integral part of our mission and programming, we use a check-in system that scans governmentissued identification and compares it against a national child sex offender registry. Convicted sex offenders will not be permitted to enter McGaw facilities, hold memberships, participate in programs, or live in the residence. Members are regularly checked and need only bring their member ID. Non-members, including program participants and guests, must bring a valid identification that includes a photo and date of birth (such as a driver’s license or passport) each time they visit the McGaw YMCA. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

At the Children’s Center, we believe that raising children is a partnership between families and educators to nourish children’s physical, social-emotional, language, and cognitive development through play-based learning. We create an environment where children can feel safe to explore the world around them with curriculum and unique enrichments that build thoughtful lifelong learners. PART-DAY PROGRAM

FULL-DAY PROGRAM

Our Part-Day Program welcomes children into a preschool setting that prepares them for school success. At the Children’s Center, your child builds relationships with their peers and teachers through engaging educational experiences in their classroom and in the community. Children participate in activities such as swimming lessons, gym, music, the arts and more.

Our Full-Day Program supports families yearround in a partnership to nurture children’s development through play-based learning. Here, children from 0 to 5-years-old establish friendships that continue year-after-year and learning is a hands-on experience.

HEAD START In May 2017, the Children’s Center opened its first early learning satellite center in partnership with Childcare Network of Evanston. Our Head Start Program is located in Evanston’s 5th Ward to ensure all children ages 3–5 are ready for Kindergarten by building curriculum around children’s interests and developmental stages. Family members are valued as partners in supporting their children’s learning and growth.

Evanston’s premiere makerspace exclusively for middle-school youth at McGaw YMCA. MetaMedia is a FREE digital media center and maker education program designed for middleschool youth. MetaMedia increases access to technology and skilled mentors, allows the exploration of passions and projects, and empowers youth in a safe community atmosphere. Throughout the year, we provide a variety of programs to meet the interests of all middleschool youth.

OPEN STUDIO Year Round Youth from 6th to 8th grade take advantage of our space to interact with high-level technology. Expert mentors involved in various creative fields expose youth to our philosophy. We support youth in all their interests and help them build a foundation for lifelong intellectual, social, and emotional experimentation. There is no need to enroll.

METAMAKES April 7–May 19 MetaMakes is a Saturday program that uses hands-on STEAM learning in order to transform a cohort of middle school youth into emerging makers, designers, and entrepreneurs based on a community issue.

METAMEDIA SUMMER EXPERIENCE / MSX June 11–July 19 MSX is a hands-on making learning experience where participants will create an original invention. At the end of the summer, participants will get to compete against fellow inventors for cash and prizes in a ‘shark tank’ style showcase!

METAEXPLORERS 1YSMETAEXP June 11–August 3 | Registration fee required Makers will have the opportunity to register for two-week camp sessions throughout the summer and learn skills in making, music production, digital fabrication, and digital media. Only 30 spots available each session.

SCIENCE IN SOCIETY Wednesdays Northwestern’s Science Club programs bridge inschool and out-of-school learning and foster the development of skills, such as experimentation, critical thinking, and problem solving. By giving our youth a supportive environment to explore STEM, we are also building more confident learners and educators.

AGE: 5–18 years April 30–July 20 Over the last two years over 200 youth have swum with the McGaw Y Swim Team (or MYST for short). Team swimmers range in age from 5 to 18 years and bring a wide range of experience, but they all show tremendous dedication. Myst is a competitive swimming program oriented toward developing the whole swimmer. We believe there is more to competition than collecting trophies. The guiding philosophy of YMCA swimming is, “Everyone swims; everyone wins.” This means we value participation as much as performance.
