Bite mE! words by Sharryn Westbrook
When our offspring were considerably younger, we took them to Dreamworld. Throughout the day we did the usual tourist things; ate the food, took the photos, did the rides, and washed someone else’s vomit off our shoes! To humour the ‘olds’ as we were affectionately referred to, we disembarked from a ride and headed in the general direction of Tiger Island. En route we could actually hear the roar of the tigers before we saw them. Standing outside their enclosure we were reassured by the presence of steel bars separating us from them.
Watching those majestic creatures interact with the keeper and jump on command or shimmy up a tree trunk, I couldn’t help but think about the analogy the Bible uses for the enemy. In 1 Peter 5:8 Satan is compared to a roaring lion. “Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour”.
Mmmm, if he may devour some, then it stands to reason there are those he may not devour. You need to get this image fixed in your mind and literally picture the enemy toothless! Those of us who have had children will remember well the teething stage when they took hold of anything within arms reach, shoved it in their mouths and gummed it to death. That’s pretty much the way the enemy operates; all smokescreen without substance. He has as much room to move in our lives as we give consent to so the good news is you get to choose whether you will be amongst those he may or may not devour. Don’t allow Satan to terrorize you with intimidating threats of calamity, sickness, financial anguish, marital failure etc. Jesus triumphed over him & if you know Jesus, Romans 8:11 is for you.
“If the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, then the one who brought Christ back to life will also make your mortal bodies alive by his Spirit who lives in you”. This truth will mess with your mind when you fully contemplate its ramifications in your world; the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you! What will that look like in your marriage, your finances, your health, your family, your business? Play ‘let’s imagine’ for just a moment and allow yourself the luxury to daydream the possibilities. It has been said that 5 minutes after you die you’ll know what kind of life you could have lived. But why wait until then? Why not take hold of the truth of the Word of God and apply its reality to your life now!
You need to get this image fixed in your mind and literally picture the enemy toothless!
We frequently find the ourselves living in what struggle between be” and “is” and “should g ive the often I think we it n enemy more cred tha he deserves. We frequently find ourselves living in the struggle between what “is” and “should be” and often I think we give the enemy more credit than he deserves. We wake up with a throbbing headache and think the enemy is taking a swipe at us; a friend speaks harshly and we say “I must be under attack”. We have a prolonged health issue and we think the enemy is really putting the boot in. I don’t mean to be a myth buster but think! You might just need an early night, some soul time with a good friend, a large glass or water and a quality multivitamin! We have access to all the benefits Jesus death on the cross bought for us and it wasn’t just salvation and healing from sickness. Check out Ephesians 1:4-7, 9-11 (NLT) and give yourself some quiet time to allow the truth of this passage to permeate your mind and marinade in your spirit. It was always God’s intention that you live in victory in the strength of the Lord. I encourage you to exchange your weakness for His strength, allow Him to give you beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning.
I had a friend once who owned a cat called Tiger. The trouble was, Tiger only had one tooth and he dribbled! Not the picture of ferociousness one imagines when you hear the name Tiger. That’s a whole lot like someone else I know…

50 & better
LIFE IS GOOD! I am really pleased to see how the 50 & better are connecting so well. Our event that we held in August, the Who’s Who was a great success, where around 48 of us gathered and shared a wonderful lunch and got to know each of the Life Groups better, how their talents and their vision to see how their groups can be making a difference. Our Life groups are quite amazing with support from them going out to the Benevolent Society, Samaritan House, People new to Mackay and others. Just the other day One Life group took a bundle of delish food to our local police force to say thanks for the great job they do. Also, our Life groups are enjoying serving at MCF on service teams new friends lounge, worship team and children’s ministry, it is a great way to be involved. So if you are not already connected in a LIFE GROUP, find yourself one today and open the door to relationship and accomplish great things together! God bless, Ps Jill

Our God is so amazing. He has given each and every one of us talent to use for His Glory. I have found myself sad though for children when their parents try to live their dreams through them. We see it all the time, we as parents get to a stage in our life when we regret not doing certain things and therefore we want to make sure that our children do not miss out on what we think they should do. God has created our children beautiful and unique, we see bits and pieces of us in them, but reality is, that they are fearfully and wonderfully made as unique individuals. What does your
child love doing? What are they really good at? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? Encourage them in their weaknesses but help them to dream about what they can do with the things they enjoy doing, their strengths, their natural talent.
You may find your child sings all the time, or likes being in the kitchen with you; maybe they love undoing things and putting it back together, encourage them in their natural talent, pray for them and see what God does in their life!

Extreme Conference 2012 was an incredible milestone for our city, region and state. There’s not enough space here to fully unpack what God did in people’s lives over the 4 days but in essence, over 400 young people, young adults and pastors from as far north as the Torres Strait, as far south as Bundaberg and as far west as Mount Isa have gone back to their cities and communities with this scripture resounding in their hearts: The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. Isaiah 61:1 (NLT) Look out QLD, revival’s coming your way.

Schoolies Red Frogs Chaplaincy (24th -29th November) Airlie Beach If you love young people and love partying and love serving the next generation, then Schoolies Red Frogs Chaplaincy is for you! Each year thousands of school leavers embark on Airlie Beach (a perfect place for a mission’s trip right!) to party the nights away. However as we know too well, Schoolies Week has a bit of a reputation for thousands of hyped up, drunk, and over excited school-leavers to create problems! So this is where we come in…If you would like to know more about how you can help check out www.redfrogs.com.au or see Ps Tim Spark for more information.
Life Groups (Weekly) Each week we have great Life Groups happening in the life of our church. This is a great way to connect with other like-minded people and created friendships along the way, while learning more about God and yourself. If you would like to know how you can be a part of one, please see Ps Tim and Kat Spark.
COMING BACK TO HEART OF WORS “When the music fades and all is stripped away and I simply come Longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless Your heart” Matt Redman Lights, sound, quality songs and excellent musicians are what makes up the exterior of a good worship team. We believe that there’s more to worshipping God than the presentation that you see on a Sunday. Our team is constantly challenged that if the exterior is stripped away, will we still be able to worship God. When the lights are not working or the guitar is too loud, can we still worship God? Yes we can! Worship is not about a feeling but a conscious decision that we make to put our focus and attention on Him who deserves all the glory.
One of our newest members is Nicole Boccalatte who’s only been part of the team for 6 months. She started off singing in the choir but soon found her place in the worship team family doing backing vocals. She loves how the team fosters and encourages personal and spiritual growth and is a place where you can be inspired, challenged and invested into.

GET TO KNOW
SOME OF OUR GREAT WORSHIP LEADERS.................
We would love to introduce you to some of the awesome worship team members and share a bit of their story with you. Bevan Little has been part of the team for about 5 years playing bass, acoustic, dabbled in lead guitar and is a worship leader. He loves how being in the worship team is not just about playing in a band but that we “worship with purpose”. Bevan loves that worship gives us an opportunity to “encounter the person and presence of God and helps us grow as a Christian”. Hannah Weir is another one of our worship leaders that started out as a backing vocalist and has been part of the team for about 3 years. “I love encouraging people into the presence of God, I love the people and the relationships I’ve formed and I love serving MCF in this way because it is a great church, a true gemso valuable!”
