Boss Design’s philosophy of ‘workplace habitats’ and furniture solutions has helped the Energy Systems Catapult scoop a Regional BCO Award for Midlands and Central England in the ‘Fit out of Workplace’ category for its new offices located in Birmingham. The Energy Systems Catapult is part of a network of elite technology and innovation centres set up by Innovate UK. In conjunction with leading Birmingham architectural and interior designers, Monteith Scott, Boss Design rose to the challenge of helping create a contemporary and non-corporate environment based on a series of habitats specifically designed to adapt and flex as the organisation grows and matures. Dramatic, efficient lighting at the iconic Oakham Castle Oakham Castle in Rutland is benefitting from a striking and energy efficient new lighting scheme thanks to Concord. The new design, which features a number of Concord luminaires, emphasises the castle’s aesthetic qualities as well highlighting the intricate architectural features of the historic building. As part of the refurbishment, Concord worked with M & E specialists, E P Consulting to develop an effective lighting solution. The installation incorporated exterior and interior lighting solutions, improved facilities and an exhibition fit out to showcase the Castle and its history. The mechanical and electrical services needed to be sympathetically designed to blend in with the structure of the building whilst improving the outside lighting. CONCORD

DANLERS’ new range of “Casambi-enabled” occupancy detectors use Bluetooth Low Energy communication to control lighting without the need for any wiring between the controls and the luminaires. Any number of Casambi-enabled luminaires and controls in a building will automatically form a mesh network, and the Casambi app can be used to quickly and simply set up any required control system. This has major advantages in cost, ease of installation and flexibility. Casambi networks are both reliable and secure, and devices can be added or taken away at any time. They can also be integrated with existing DALI or 1-10VDC systems. DANLERS Enquiry No.411 www.mclink.co.uk/1032-411

New Terrazzo Floor Innovation Shimmers in London’s Leicester Square Embracing the art of shared dining in the heart of London’s most iconic square, Leicester Square Kitchen offers relaxed luxury in a sophisticated yet unassuming setting. On the edge of the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hampshire Hotel, Leicester Square Kitchen is the third restaurant from the group behind Monmouth Kitchen and May Fair Kitchen. Close to 100 square metres of Mondéco Rapide – a new fast-turnaround seamless resin terrazzo flooring system from Flowcrete UK – has been installed by applicator partner, Milestone Industrial Flooring, in and around the restaurant’s central bar area. Flowcrete has reinvented traditional resin terrazzo systems with Mondéco Rapide; a fast-curing, flexible terrazzo resin system, which offers a significantly reduced project downtime and can be laid over a variety of substrates. Mondéco Rapide provides a luxury finish with extensive design potential including colour and pattern options featuring locally sourced British marble aggregate blends. It is a fourcomponent system that provides a non-porous finish in a range of decorative colours. Mondéco Rapide is ideal for a variety of different environments including

airports, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and shopping centres. Based on methyl methacrylate (MMA) technology, the system has been designed to reduce the overall installation time associated with epoxy or polyurethane resin terrazzo flooring systems by up to 75%. At Leicester Square Kitchen, installation works were completed in a small, tight and confined area, adding an element of complexity to the project for the application team. Speaking of the installation, which was the first of its kind in the UK, Edward Booth, Sales & Marketing Manager for Milestone Industrial Flooring said, “With traditional epoxy systems, long construction programmes, curing time and lack of flexibility mean that typically terrazzo projects slowed down construction programmes due to works having to be done in stages and trades not being able to work while the floor is being laid.By using the Mondéco Rapide, we were able to work during nights ensuring other trades could access the site in the day.
