25 Years of Partnership for Epwin & Total Glass 2016 marks a milestone anniversary for Epwin Group and Profile 22 customer Total Glass. Since 1981 Total Glass has been manufacturing and supplying Profile 22 products, as Group Managing Director, Frank Deary explains. “Total Glass has been with Epwin and Profile 22 since day one. When we were looking for a profile supplier they ticked all the boxes; a high quality and sustainable range of products with a stable supply chain. That decision 25 years ago has formed the business we have today, and with Profile 22’s
support we are now one the UK’s largest fabricators of PVC-U products. “We have built a strong relationship with Profile 22, and having the backing of such a well-respected profile supplier in the industry has definitely played a part in Total Glass’ growth over the last two decades. “We are really excited to start using the Optima system in November. As always, it offers cutting edge technology that ticks every box, and we are sure that it will be well received by our customers.” From their 100,000 square foot premises in Liverpool, Total Glass manufactures in excess of 2,500 frames per week for its UK-wide customer base, which includes private and public sector organisations. Hailed as the biggest launch in the window industry for a decade, Profile 22 revealed the Optima range earlier this year and the response has been great. A fully-integrated, 70mm-depth system, it’s easy to install and suitable for a wide range of projects.
Katrina Earl, Northern Regional Manager for Epwin Window Systems adds: “Our relationship with Total Glass has been a long and happy one and is a great example of how we can work together to develop a strong and sustainable business. Contact Total Glass on 0151 549 2339 or visit www.totalglass.com. Find out more about Optima at www.profile22.co.uk or call 01952 290910.

The newest addition to this collection, is the Elise Glass range. These have the benefit of a beautiful glass door frame enhancing the flame visuals and giving the fires a new look and feel. Gazco’s ultra-realistic and versatile gas fire, the Reflex 75T Body: The new Reflex 75T gas fire includes ultra-realistic flames with its innovative burner system, featuring burners that are hid within the ceramic logs. This way, the flames not only create a varied effect by being at different heights, but they also envelop the logs from a variety of directions to create a distinctively realistic wood burning fire effect. There are three sets of twin burners each of which can be controlled independently of one another, to create any desired

ambiance. The Reflex’s LED Emberglow up-lighting systems create authentic embers which can be enjoyed both with and without the heat, weather permitting. The Reflex also enjoys the benefit of having a non-reflective glass front. This gives homeowners an uninhibited view of the flames as well as creating a beautiful open-fire aesthetic. The versatility of this fire comes into play with its ability to fit wintin a standard 36” chimney breast. This means the many homes looking to maintain that period feel are able to do so and still maintain the look of a traditional wood burning fire with this Reflex 75T. It can be framed within a mantel for a more traditional fireplace appearance, but can also be installed further up the wall encased in one of the many frames available in the range for a contemporary look. Purplex cements growth plans with new HQ acquisition
Purplex, the full-service marketing agency for the building products industry, has secured an additional 5,000 ft2 office space after parent company, the Ascot Group, confirmed a £1million investment programme. The new 3 storey HQ will add to the firms existing offices near Bristol and central London, giving the group almost 10,000 ft2 of office space.
Managing Director Andrew Scott commented; “Purplex has always invested heavily in recruiting and developing talented people, but we needed more space and resources. The new offices will enable us to scale from 50 to 100+ people while adding fantastic new facilities.” The new HQ is located close to a motorway exit and adjacent to a mainline train station, with Bristol airport just 20 minutes away. It will be equipped with a film making and photography studio, training and conference facilities, and a new technology hub. “The location means easier and faster commuting for our team while providing great transport links for our clients. We prefer face-to-face rather than business by email” added Andrew. Purplex was formed in 2004 by Andrew Scott, who was previously marketing and sales director for a number of companies in the building products and home improvement industries. The business provides expert strategic consultancy, PR, branding and digital marketing, as well as photography and video production, with clients ranging from small home improvement firms to global building product manufacturers. Cavity Wall Masonry Skins are Not Watertight
Wind pressurised rain will inwardly penetrate masonry with greater ease than vice-versa, and directional bias is aided by the air pressure differential.
Wind-driven rain that penetrates the exterior skin of a cavity wall will gravitate downwardly within the wall until it reaches the base of the building.
Damp banding/staining will occur where water is retained.
Where window or door openings interrupt this downward flow or where there is a structural change of level/intersection, provision must be made to arrest the gravitating water and evacuate it out of the wall via weeps. But what happens when the outer masonry skin is rendered and no weeps are provided? And can the presence of full fill insulation result in water displacement to an extent that can compromise the intended behaviour of the wall? A freshly rendered wall may resist water penetration when new, but weathering and age rapidly take their toll. During the lifetime of any building rendering will suffer fissures and cracks. These occur within the rendered surface and particularly at the junctions with windows, doorways, etc.
At lintel level if no exit route is provided and/or insulation displacement considerably reduces or eliminates the cavity, water can rise around the faces of insulation where pooling occurs between stopends.
At ground level fully filled cavities rising off a raft, barrier or closed/filled base should take into account the rise or falls in building levels of exterior walls linked with a common cavity. In such situations evacuating possible water flow along a cavity should be addressed before a structural change of level rather than feeding into it, where discharge out of the structure might be difficult. It is possible to incorporate a discreet caviweeps within rendered surfaces that are hardly noticeable once installed. Discreet caviweeps function like an overflow pipe to a tank or cistern they provide an evacuation route for water when required. The Building Regulations and British Standards refer to water penetrating masonry with rendered surfaces, so assessing cavity wall elevations and
constructing in the knowledge water will penetrate the exterior cavity skin during the lifetime of a building makes sense. Cavity Trays if Yeovil is the longest established company in its specialised field and manufactures a range of caviweeps, cavitrays and caviclosers suitable for rendered and non-rendered walls. Products are accompanied with a performance warranty for the benefit of architect builder and client. Look closer at smarter control of fuel costs Taking a closer look at fuel cards should reveal that they have much more to offer fleet managers than savings on diesel and petrol. The whole point of finding the right fuel card, however, is to save money and time. No other way of buying fuel offers the advantages of fuel cards. With commercial rate fuel cards, you always know in advance exactly how much your fuel will cost, regardless of where a driver fills up, and the price is typically up to 4p per litre less than the national average pump price. Your fixed price applies at thousands of filling stations nationwide, from city centres to rural back roads. It even applies to motorway service stations, where the saving is up to 10p per litre. You refuel now and pay later, with the interval between refuelling and being invoiced meaning anywhere up to two weeks of interest-free credit. www.mclink.co.uk/966-100 ENQUIRY-Card 100
Summer shed revived to perfection
Osmo UK wood finishing products are a favourite among many, from DIY amateurs to professional craftsmen, and now, Horsham homeowner, Nicola Kefford. After suffering a few complications with her garden shed, including joinery snags, gaps between the wood work and blown wood filler, DIY enthusiast, Nicola was introduced to Osmo’s External Sealer. Offering a high quality exterior seal made from ecofriendly products, Osmo provided Nicola with the ideal wood finish treatment to revive her beloved shed back to perfection. “After spending more time in the garden, I began to notice a few gaps in between my shed’s wood panels and joints. The wood filler I applied previously was already starting to blow, making the shed’s aesthetics appear tatty and vulnerable to water leaks”. I’m extremely passionate about environmentally friendly products and was recommended Osmo’s External Sealer. www.mclink.co.uk/966-101 ENQUIRY-Card 101

The secret fixing for panelling applications Button-fix is an extra strong, secret fixing for panels, ideal for a multitude of interior fit-out applications and furniture construction. Easy and simple to use, each Button-fix fastening consists of a durable nylon Button and a Fix. The range of Fixes offers a choice of screw fixing or bonding to the panel, surface-mounting for fast on-site installation or rebating when no gap is required behind the panel. Marmox Thermoblock specified for low energy extension to Kent School The construction of a new extension to the teaching facilities at Glebe School in West Wickham, Kent, has featured the use of 140 mm wide Thermoblock units manufactured by Marmox Limited, specified to carry the main structural envelope of the two-storey building. The incorporation of Thermoblocks at the wall-floor junction results in the virtual elimination of the heat loss at this cold bridge. The new building will provide the secondary school with a number of facilities including an art-room, additional classrooms and new washrooms. Furthermore, as is common now in the education sector, the extension has been designed to achieve very good standards of energy consumption through high levels of insulation. Look closer at fuel cost transparency Taking a closer look at fuel costs can bring unpleasant surprises for some fleet managers. Although fuel probably represents their largest variable cost item apart from staff costs, many have only a limited idea of how much they are spending. Unless a fleet is refuelling with the right commercial rate fuel cards, it is virtually impossible to predict fuel costs with any precision. Paying pump prices means that identical vehicles can refuel with diesel or petrol at exactly the same time, only a few miles from each other, but at greatly differing costs. If one fills up at a supermarket and the other on the motorway, the bills could differ by 10p per litre or more. Worse, they could both

refuel at the same places a couple of days later and find that the prices have gone up. This could happen week after week, giving the fleet manager no chance of predicting expenditure. www.mclink.co.uk/966-107 ENQUIRY- Card 107
