SHOPPING Pacific Grove The shopping district along and surrounding Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove features charming stores selling pine furniture, baked goods, home goods, books, and fashion – seasoned with antique shops, art galleries and gift boutiques. Later, indulge in more retail therapy at the historic American Tin Cannery, a one-of-a-king shopping and entertainment center located steps from the rocky shores of the Monterey Bay. Built in 1927, the structure originally housed the American Can Company and today is home to nearly 30 shops and restaurants.

Sure, Pebble Beach is known for its golf, but the area has exquisite shopping, too. Pebble Beach merchandise, golf apparel and mementos all can be found at the parade of shops near The Lodge at Pebble Beach. The stores are worth a look, especially after a fulfilling day on the greens.
Although Sand City claims a population of less than 300, the town is a thriving spot for shopaholics. Vendors in the mall behind the dunes peddle music, beach towels, charcoal, swim suits, kites, books, sunblock and snacks—everything a family could need for a day of picnicking, sunbathing or bicycling. Two neighboring shopping centers cater to everyday needs with an array of recognized retail offerings such as Target, Borders Books, and Costco, in addition to a handful of convenient eateries.
Salinas Along the Highway 101 corridor, shopping runs the gamut from the historic Oldtown Salinas architecture to the unique boutiques, restaurants and A Taste of Monterey wine visitors center near the National Steinbeck Center. The city’s Northridge Mall, is anchored by Macy’s, Sears and JC Penney; Harden Ranch, another shopping area, features Pier I and Target.

Seaside’s brand-new City Center shopping center anchors a downtown area that features authentic cuisine from around the world. While the foundation of the Seaside business community is made up of small family-owned establishments, national retailers and restaurant groups also value the city’s prime location and access to Highway 1. Home Depot, Chili’s, Starbucks, and Cost Plus currently have outposts here and new retail developments will debut in 2008 and coming years. Seaside is also the place to purchase a car, with an auto center that boasts the largest selection of vehicles in the region. Although it was one of the country’s first auto malls, a recently completed $21 million renovation welcomes today’s consumer to buy, lease, and service their vehicles at the Seaside Auto Center.
