Welcome to Library Central

Hello! You can be sure of a warm welcome in our libraries from all of the library team. We are here to help you find information from books, journals or online so that you can get the best marks you can. We can also help you to use any of the resources in the library. Please remember to always bring your STUDENT ID CARD with you—you may want to borrow something from the library.

How to find us Hartford: The library is on the top floor using the main entrance stairs. The Learning Zone drop-in computer centre is on the first floor. The HE Study Room is located within the library. Winsford: Room 101 on the first floor. Students are welcome to use any of our libraries regardless of which campus they are based at. The basics Books We have about 25300 books across the sites and an expanding collection of ebooks which are accessible through the library catalogue The books are divided up so they support the courses being taught at each site. The library catalogue is available from anywhere where you can access the internet (college, home, work etc.).

If you enjoy reading, we have a collection of fiction and children’s books and welcome suggestions from students of what can be added to stock. If you can’t find what you need, ask a member of staff!

The basics DVDs, CDs, etc We have a collection of off air and commercial recordings on DVD. These may be borrowed for up to a week. A small collection of music CDs and audio books is also available. Current Magazines & Newspapers Daily and weekly newspapers are available in Hartford library and relevant magazines & journals are available in all libraries. Back copies may be borrowed. A full list can be found in a separate leaflet available in the libraries or on Moodle ( Enquiries If you aren’t able to find the information you need quickly and effectively why not ask a specialist to do it for you? Our professional staff will be delighted to do the searching for you. Just give us a little time and a clear idea of what you need. Borrowing You may borrow up to 6 items at a time (8 for Higher Education students). You must bring your student ID card with the items you want to borrow to the issue desk. Most things can be borrowed for 3 weeks. A small number of the most popular books, back copies of journals, DVDs, CDs, can only be borrowed for one week. If you need anything for longer you can renew your items ONCE by email, online, by phone, or over the counter.

Reserve, Renew and Request Using the Online catalogue you are able to reserve items and renew items. Guides are available on Moodle ( under the Library Central logo. Please remember that if you can’t find what you need, then please feel free to talk to us, we may be able to help or we can assist in ordering items for you. We can also borrow books on interlibrary loan, informally from Cheshire County Libraries, or books/articles formally from the British Library. A charge may be made for this service.

Computers PCs are available for students to use on a drop-in basis in all the Centres. The Learning Zone at Hartford has 41 computers, Hartford library has 20, plus 5 in the HE Study Room, Winsford campus library has 24 computers. Individual PCs can be booked in advance and online using Please remember that computers are provided for students to do their coursework. If you are not doing coursework and the centre is busy you will be asked to log off and free up a computer. Online resources Gale Infotrac Powersearch The library subscribes to Infotrac which is a database of over 20,000 publications including newspapers, magazines, journals, encyclopaedias and other reference materials available with full text. The link to infotrac is available via within college but to use this resources from home you will need to login using Shibboleth. To log in via Shibboleth you will be asked for a username and password and this will be the same as your network login. Ebrary This is the collection of 2981 e-books we have available. We also have a selection of ebooks that the library have purchased which are also accessible through the catalogue (as above) but you can also access them directly at by selecting the institution and entering your network login and password.

JISC MediaHub JISC MediaHub is a new multimedia platform offering a wealth of digital image, video and audio collections. Log in by firstly finding your institution i.e. Mid Cheshire College and then by putting in your network username and password.

Datamonitor (formerly Marketline) Datamonitor offers a comprehensive and unique collection of company, industry, financial, product and country information, research and data extending across every major marketplace and industry. You can access this via Moodle using your normal network login, if you’re outside of college you will have to login using Shibboleth. To log in via Shibboleth you will be asked for a username and password and this will be the same as your network login.

We check the links regularly and are confident that the information is good quality but your own critical evaluation must be used with all information, especially that found on the web.
