DROWNING A FLOWER

A woman I loved once told me that loving me was ‘like drowning a flower.’ I’ve never understood what she meant by that. I have my interpretations of what she said, yes. But what she truly meant, I never thought to ask. We were ending when the statement was made. I walked away from her in anger at the comment. All the while, ignorant of it’s meaning. Just angry. Maybe at her voice more so than her words. “Everything cracks. It’s what lets the light in.” - Leonard Cohen
