Message from the Chairman

Business Name

Welcome to the first edition of the Tritech Nationals electronic newsletter! We have come a long way since we started Tritech in 2009 and we are proud of how fast this initiative is growing. A little bit of background: Parents, teachers and caring people from Westfalia, all concerned about the dire shortage of skill in South Africa, started Tritech. We believe that learners need to be stimulated and encouraged to become scientists that are able to identify challenges in the world they live in, collect data, analyse information, find solutions and communicate findings effectively. The Tritech Science and Technology Fair is a platform for participating learners to increase their awareness of the wonders of Science, add to their knowledge, broaden their scientific horizons and demonstrate their talents. In our first year, we had 75 learners that participated at national level and this year, only three years on, we are expecting 250 learners. The National Tritech Science and Technology Fair is not all about hard work. The learners have loads of fun each year with outdoor activities and a theme evening. Read more on last year’s fun on page 5. With the great feedback we have had from parents, teachers and learners; the rapid expansion comes as no surprise. This year projects are of a very high standard, judging by the entries at regional level. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for making this such a huge success. Welcome to the Tritech family! Good luck to all the participants of Tritech 2011! Willie Stevens

GIONS E R E H ROM T NEWS F Bosveld Bosveld’s regionals took place on 12 August 2011 at H/S Warmbad. Six schools entered with 70 projects. The projects were of such a high quality that it made it difficult to choose. What made this event stand out was the fact that the sponsorships contributed so much that we were able to offer 10 category prizes as well as 7 floating trophies. One of the sponsors made banners that we displayed, letting everyone know that the Tritech Science exhibition is taking place. Members of the Hip2B² team gave a “cool” presentation whilst the judging took place. The top three winners also received prizes.

2010 Nationals Winner says: The meaning of Tritech: What is the meaning of Tritech to a scholar: “A fun competition where we learn about science through exploring the world around us.” Tritech has grown from strength to strength in the past years, more projects, more friends, more fun and better ideas! At this moment, I cannot imagine my High School career without Tritech. Through Tritech, you learn to think outside the box, not to be scared to try new things and you may even overcome some of your fears, but the most important part is learning

about the world and yourself. In search for the best Tritech idea you also learn much more about yourself, you realise what you like and dislike in life, it builds your character.

From all the participants – Thank you for creating a platform where we can realize that we CAN become the young scientists of South Africa.

My participation in Tritech has taught me so much about myself and it even helped me to realize what I would like to do for the rest of my life. Without the loyal sponsors, dedicated organisers and enthusiastic teachers all the participants and I would not be able to say, “Wow, what an amazing competition.”

with Tritech 2011!
