what our guests say mouth-watering menus conferences

They know it all Around 100 of the future leaders of the tourism industry now know all they need to know about beer but never really asked. Students of the University of Johannesburg’s School for Tourism and Hospitality Management went through an official beer appreciation course last month at the World of Beer. The course, by trade brewer Anton Erasmus, took them from the history of brewing to pouring, presenting and tasting the country’s leading brands.

NOW WE’RE No.1!

Way to go!

Visitors pour in More and more visitors are again stepping through the doors of the World of Beer. Numbers are climbing steadily since the beginning of the year, towards last September’s peak of almost 240 a day. January was traditionally slow after the holidays, but during February and March average daily visitors were close to 150.

Drinking beer doesn’t make you fat, it makes you lean ... against bars, tables and poles. Greek proverb.

The SAB World of Beer has been officially judged South Africa’s top tourist attraction. We have won the prestigious 2009 Welcome Awards, just announced. Last year, we were runners-up. The awards, the Oscars of the country’s tourism industry, were made by SA Tourism after a rigorous judging process by a committee comprising SA Tourism and its partners. Around 500 entries were received.

What our guests have been saying ... The professional support we enjoyed from the SAB World of Beer, throughout the organisation of the The South African Planning Institute conference and the event itself, was greatly valued and definitely ensured the success of the event. Feedback from the attendees was very positive and everybody enjoyed themselves. The food was excellent and the tour was very interesting and entertaining. I gave your details to a few people attending the event as “No soldier they would like to make use of your can fight facilities in future. unless he is properly Carl Erasmus fed on beef and beer”: APS Planafrica Inc. John Churchill, Town and Regional Planners First Duke

It was really very interesting to visit your centre in Johannesburg and to meet you there. I think it will be a great attraction for Russian tourists and I hope there will be a chance very soon to create some business relationship with your company. Elena Chemyakina , Travel Department Expo Group, Moscow.

of Marlborough A word of thanks to you and your staff, who made Saturday an unforgettable experience for my family. White Bull is quenching thirsts in the Sudan Thirsty beer drinkers of Southern Sudan, where weather is definitely conducive to enjoyment of the great amber beverage, now have the answer: White Bull lager. SABMiller’s subsidiary, Southern Sudan Beverages, this month began brewing Southern Sudan’s first locally produced beer, whose name reflects a cultural symbol for the people of Southern Sudan, synonymous with positive feelings of celebration, success and peace. SSBL’s new beverage plant is the first local manufacturing facility in Southern Sudan’s capital city, Juba.

mouth-watering menus

As you always knew ... * It was back in 1897 that Grolsch began selling its beer in those distinctive bottles with their swingtop stoppers. * US beer drinkers can enjoy beers called Old Brown Dog Ale, Leglifter Light, Tailwagger Wheat beer and Red Hydrant Ale. * For brewers, using hops is like using salt - only a tiny amount is needed.

* Scots are not as mean as their repuations suggests. An SABMiller ‘Beer Etiquette’ report that surveyed 7,500 men and women across 15 countries, revealed that the Scots and Welsh buy Britain’s largest rounds: they are happy to buy for up to 6.8 and 6.9 people per round respectively. Fifteen percent of beer drinkers would be generous enough to buy for ten people or more per round.
