Human Resource Professionals T

he Chamber initiated the HRP Group to serve the needs of human resource professionals by creating a community to build and sustain partnerships. Professionals responsible for payroll, benefits or recruitment can join this group. HRP provides education, leadership and research to human resource professionals in the MilledgevilleBaldwin County community. In September Debbie Fry, with Health Insurance Options led the topic of “Employees transitioning to Medicare and how Medicare affects employer health coverage.” In October, Deborah Tapley and Tracie Kirkland of Randstad discussed the new FLSA regulations and specifically how staffing agencies can assist businesses so that they are compliant with the new regulations. In November, Hank Griffeth, City Planner provided a fun, hands-on activity for participants to understand and implement “Seven Life Lessons.” These lessons were perfect for motivation, conflict resolution and boosting morale in the workplace. Please join us the first Thursday of the month at 8:00 A.M. in the Chamber Boardroom for a lively discussion and a yummy breakfast. This event is free to our members, come take advantage of this member benefit. If you are knowledgeable on any of these subjects, we invite you to come speak to our group.

Small Business Workshop The Chamber hosted a small business workshop in

October titled “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map,” which is an initiative to help local businesses increase their presence online. Attendees learned how to create an online listing and verify their business with Google My Business. The Let’s Put Our Cities On The Map program was designed to help strengthen communities by helping local businesses; businesses with complete listings can help generate economic value to individual communities. Local businesses are vital to America’s economic future. Small businesses comprise half of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product and create twothirds of all new jobs. Small business success is vital to the growth of MilledgevilleBaldwin County. We strive to help businesses reach their full potential by offering workshops such as these. Of course it would not be possible without our faithful and generous sponsors; Century Bank & Trust, Cogentes, Five Star Toyota, Magnolia State Bank, MidSouth Federal Credit Union and Tri County EMC.

Eggs & Issues is designed to keep individuals, businesses and organizations informed by bringing in local leaders to discuss issues involving the community, while enjoying a delicious breakfast. We could not put on this wellattended event without our dedicated sponsors, Central Georgia Technical College and Magnolia State Bank. In September the topic was “Shaping our Future Workforce. We heard from Teresa Phillips and Laurie Wallace, both with the Baldwin College and Career Academy, Emmanuel Little with the Georgia College Call Me Mister Program and Dr. Joe Peters, Dean of Education at Georgia College. Each discussed the positive impact their programs are having here, locally, on our workforce. In October we heard from a panel of speakers on the Proposed Constitutional Amendments. Lyn Chandler, Hank Edmondson, Skye Gess and Matt Roessing spoke on the various amendements. In November General Bill Caldwell of Georgia Military College gave an informative update on the various programs offered and the consistent increase in enrollment across all campuses. GMC has been a strong force in the community since 1879 and we look forward to enjoying the positive impact this institution and its graduates will have on Milledgeville-Baldwin County. Join us for our next Eggs & Issues on January 18 for our annual meeting. Winter 2016

Check

Each year the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Cham-

ber of Commerce hosts “Reality Check” at each of the three high schools...Baldwin High, GMC Prep and John Milledge Academy. Sophomores participate in this interactive simulation to experience life as an adult while giving them the opportunity to interact with YOU-our business leaders. Each student is given a unique life scenario where they must pay bills, balance checkbooks, and even account for vacation and leisure dining. They learn about hardships and triumphs of reality and how to be successful men and women in both the workforce and in the community. Reality shouldn’t be a rude awakening. Thank you to the businesses who manned simulation booths, we could not do it without your support and to BB&T for their sponsorship of this event. Winter 2016

#BrownBagBaldwin “Please accept this gift from us to you; But there is something you must do. One word is written on each bag, you see; and inside each bag, something that fits each word to a “T.” Our hope is that you will laugh and smile; and enjoy the gift for a while. Then replace that gift with an item you choose; That represents your one word for another to use. Then pay-it-forward and give your bag to another; Could be a brother or friend or pastor or mother.”

Make sure to share your bag’s journey on social media using #BrownBagBaldwin Brown Bag Baldwin was launched by the Chamber after receiving a grant from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. Thanks to these funds, each of the nearly 400 City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County employees received a bag.
