Chamber Chat It is hard to believe we are wrapping up the year in just a few short weeks. And, although it may sound cliché, I really do feel like this year has flown by. But, when I reflect back on all that we celebrated during our seventieth anniversary year, I am overjoyed by our many achievements. Not only did we “rock” the 70 Strong in ’17 campaign, we were able to thank each and every one of our members, for all they do for the Chamber. We were able to highlight over 25 years of awarding the Small Business of the Year. We were able to mold local students into future leaders through our Youth Leadership Baldwin program, and also develop current leaders in our Leadership Baldwin program. We were able to host the Young Gamechangers in our great community and look forward to being the implementation organization for their recommendations in 2018. Most importantly, we were able to remain the #1 business resource in Milledgeville-Baldwin County because of the strong and continuous support we receive from our invaluable members. Thank You! Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year!

Cross-County Veteran Appreciation On Thursday, November 9th, the Milledgeville-Baldwin County, EatontonPutnam County, Greene County, Jones-Gray County and Washington County Chambers of Commerce joined together at the Georgia Military College Legislative Chamber to celebrate Veterans across county borders. This was the first event of its kind, allowing businesses from different counties to network and make new connections. We are so thankful for all the veterans, both in attendance and at home, that sacrificed so much for our country. We want to thank each of the Chambers for everything they provided to make this evening a success. We also want to thank GMC for generously setting up the space and supplying delicious food for the evening, and to Alicia Dallago, for capturing the event through her photos.

The Adventures of Milly the Owl With Christmas coming up, I wanted to work extra hard to make everyone in my town feel loved. I left my beautiful Bellamy apartment that morning and grabbed some of their fresh, complimentary coffee on my way to the car. This owl definitely needs her coffee fix. To start my day off, I stopped by Century Bank so that I could get some cash out for my day of giving! They were so nice and got me back on my way super fast! I felt like I needed some extra fuel to get me through my day so I headed over to Waffle House. I got a huge plate of chocolate chip waffles to keep me going! My first stop for my day of giving was Overview, Inc. Not everyone has a way to stay warm in the winter, so I donated money that helped them supply blankets and good socks to those in need. I want everyone to feel loved on the holidays. Afterwards I headed over to the Twin Lakes Library with a huge box of books I had in my trunk. Everybody deserves a chance to read, so I decided to donate my old children’s books to help out! I hope they enjoy them as much as I did! After carrying all those books, I was super hungry again! I drove over to The Brick and realized that I could get yummy pizza AND continue my day of giving back! I voted for a few bras in their bras-for-acause fundraiser to help raise money for Georgia Cancer Support. I finished off my day at the Exchange Club Christmas Parade and got to see so many beautiful floats! It really inspired my Holiday Spirit! I hope everyone in Milledgeville will feel happy and loved during this season of giving!

REALITY chECK -2017-

Reality Check is a program for our local high schools intended to teach students about the challenges they may face as an adult. The students spend time trying to navigate through “adult life, and learning about how their choices impact their lives down the road. We had a great time at the Youth Challenge Academy, GMC, and JMA working with the students and helping educate them so that they can prepare for a bright and productive future! We want to thank our wonderful volunteers for investing their time and energy with these young adults!

Membership Appreciation Grill & Chill Street Party We had an absolute blast at our Membership Appreciation Street Party event on October 19th. Everyone enjoyed delicious burgers grilled on site by Buffington’s and cooled off with smoothies from Smoothie King. Overview, Inc. brought in the Stereotype band from Nashville, and they definitely got people up and dancing! Slice surprised us with a mind-blowing Burger Cake that tasted even more amazing than it looked. The evening concluded with a Raffle Drawing for our T-Shirt Quilt and an additional drawing for a 2018 Chamber Membership! Erin Andrews took home our quilt and Jordan Norville from Magnolia State Bank won his business the 2018 Chamber Membership! This event wouldn’t have been possible without our super sponsors, BB&T, Buffingtons, Citizens Bank of the South, Cogentes, Exchange Bank, GEO, Magnolia State Bank, Overview, Inc., Robins Financial Credit Union, Slice, Smoothie King, The Union-Recorder and Walmart. We also want to thank Maryllis Wolfgang for capturing the fun times in her beautiful photos!

Member to Member News Photographer Maryllis Wolfgang celebrates 10 years and introduces new line of services Crazy W Creations (Maryllis Wolfgang) celebrates 10 years in business this year. What started as a hobby is today a business supporting businesses by helping create their image to the public. As Official Photographer for the MBC Chamber of Commerce and Managing Photographer (and feature writer) for Milledgeville Living Magazine, Wolfgang is compelled to make the shot in any environment and lighting condition and represent the subject in the most positive manner. Wolfgang enjoys supporting her community through Georgia Cancer Support, CASA, Macon Volunteer Clinic and other charity events. Wolfgang is a member of Friends of Allied Arts Council and former board and current member of Middle Georgia Arts Association. She has shown and sold her landscapes in juried arts festivals throughout the southeast and has won numerous awards. By invitation, Wolfgang “captured” Milledgeville for the new Citizens Bank of The South, and her work adorns the public areas of the bank. Conceptual imaging by Wolfgang has served members of the real estate industry. Using Photoshop Wolfgang “flips” the forlorn home or building, demonstrating it’s potential. While Wolfgang will continue the work she is doing representing businesses with conceptual imaging, commercial headshots and events, she will be providing a new line -- Professional Legacy Family Portraiture. A recipient of seven generations of family photos, she is passionate about the importance of capturing and printing family images to display and pass on to future generations. Time and technology change, but well captured prime quality professionally printed images endure so the children of our children and their children will be able to look back and see their ancestors. Maryllis Photography will work with you to achieve that family photo of which you will be proud to display.

Member to Member News Exchange Bank Donates To United Way

Georgia Military College Finishes Strong in 2017

Exchange Bank employees united together to raise over $12,500 for United Way of Central Georgia through a combination of fundraisers, employee pledges, and corporate donations.

Georgia Military College Preparatory School is steeped in tradition. From the military formation every morning to the sight of our cadets standing at attention as our nations colors are lowered in the evening. Among the pride of our cadets are GMC’s robust athletic and fine arts opportunities.

This year’s campaign “Be The One” focused on the idea that one gift and one volunteer hour can alter a life. Combine those individual actions and together we can create a movement.

This year we are proud to claim one national championship and several back to back state titles.

To engage with our community, employees collected blankets, gloves, and hats to donate to the Georgia War Veteran’s Home. Also, employees were able to spend a Saturday providing lunch and playing Bingo with the Veterans. To inspire our youth, employees collected board games, recreational balls, along with art and school supplies to donate to the Boys & Girls Club. Several employees were able to enjoy an afternoon playing dodgeball with our local youth at the Boys & Girls Club. To provide for those in need, employees collected canned and nonperishable foods to donate to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank. Exchange Bank is proud of the generous staff for coming together to make a dynamic impact in our community.

Winter 2017

Cadet Lyssa Blair competed in the National Ultimate Raider competition and came in first place. Our Mixed Raider team also came away with third place in the nation and a repeat as state champions this year as well. Our boys cross country team claimed their second state championship in as many years. Aaron Kirkland took first overall for individual in the state. Several of the boy’s team will also compete in the national competition. In our fine arts program the team from GMC performed The Pajama Game and swept the region championship. They also were able to place second in the state against some fierce competition. We are extremely proud of all of our students, coaches, faculty, and staff that worked so hard this year to help achieve national and state recognition.

Eggs & Issues

Eggs & Issues allows chamber members to meet with local leaders to discuss issues impacting the community. While the delicious breakfast is a plus, the chance to engage in a dialogue about topics impacting the future of the community is even better. These events are especially successful thanks to our loyal sponsors, Central Georgia Technical College and Magnolia State Bank. We also want to thank the Local Yolkal and Waffle House for this quarters breakfast. On September 20th, Sheriff Bill Massee and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office joined us to give a thorough update on the most recent challenges facing the Sheriff’s Office as well as how they are striving for new goals. In October, our District Engineer, Jimmy Smith, from the Georgia DOT gave a presentation on behalf of the Department of Transportation. Attendees were updated on past, current, and future projects related to Baldwin County and the surrounding areas. In November, Navicent Health Baldwin joined us to give the community an update on the hospital. Rhonda Perry and CEO Darren Pearce both spoke about specific areas that need improvement as well as aspects in which the hospital already has strengths. We want to thank all of our Eggs & Issues guests for attending and staying up to date on the many facets of our community.
