What is a Prayer Partner and How to Find One? We all sin. We all do things that we don't like to do. Like you, we are all human. And we all fall short. Romans 3:23 says that, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Sin is fun. Admit it. You love to do those things you are doing. Until you realize that you are sinning, and that God does not like that. But how do you stop? It is hard to stop on our own. We need the support of other people many times. That is what a prayer partner is all about.
What is a prayer partner? A prayer partner is a Christian friend who will encourage you in your walk with God. There are 3 main goals for a prayer partner - they pray for you on a regular basis, they talk with you on a regular basis, and they regularly ask you spiritual questions.
Why should you have a prayer partner? A prayer partner provides… • Positive peer pressure – They help encourage you to make wise, godly decisions. o 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. • Help in times of trouble – When you are struggling with home issues, friends, school, etc.; a prayer partner is someone you can call on to talk with and you know they’ll listen to you. o Ecclesiastes 4:9 It's better to have a partner than go it alone. Share the work, share the wealth. And if one falls down, the other helps, But if there's no one to help, tough!
Correction when you sin – A prayer partner notices when you are slipping into sin and they will help guide you out in a loving way. o Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. Help to resist sin – When you feel like sinning, you can call on your prayer partner and they will pray for you and help you overcome your sin. o James 5:16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

How to Find a Prayer Partner? • • • • • •
Begin with prayer. Ask God to lead you to the right person Think of someone you know and trust who is a Christian Pick someone you can depend on that will talk when you need to Find someone of the same gender Ask them and also ask them to pray about it before making a decision When you have found a partner, fill out the prayer partner covenant together.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. (James 5:16)
What to do with a Prayer Partner? First, pick a time that you can meet regularly, this can be over the phone, but in person is usually best. Once you establish a time and a place go through the following steps and feel free to skip or add other ideas that will benefit your time with your partner: • Go over prayer requests and commit to praying for one another daily • Ask spiritually appropriate questions: “Have you been reading the Bible regularly? Have you been praying daily? Have you been honoring your parents? Sisters/Brothers? Did you attend church this week? Have you been giving God your tithe and offering? Is there unconfessed sin in your life? What are you wrestling with in your thought life? Are you obeying the Word of God? How has God blessed you this week? Do you sense that God is at work in your life? What have you done to help someone this week?” • Pray together and for one another while you are together
So encourage each other and build each other up. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
