EPICA: USE THE PRESS TO IMPRESS Everyone knows the purpose of awards: they celebrate creativity, they motivate hardworking teams, and they remind clients and the industry in general what great work looks like. We also know that the awards landscape is crowded. But one thing we can say with absolute certainty is that the Epica Awards are different. In fact, we’re unique. Founded in 1987, Epica has always been the only international creative competition judged by journalists. Now, in our 30th year, our jury comprises more than 60 editors and senior reporters from specialist titles all over the world, from Adweek in the United States to Werben & Verkaufen in Germany – and everywhere in between. This is a guarantee not only of objectivity, but of worldwide press coverage – fame, yay! – for the winners. Every year our jury members select gems of creativity from our shortlisted and winning entries and put them in the spotlight. Our jury are passionate about great creative work. After all, they have dedicated their lives to w  riting about advertising, marketing and design. Many of them have been immersed in the creative world for even longer than those who made the work they are judging. Every November, they award campaigns that go on to reap prizes at festivals around the world. Epica sets trends, precisely because its journalists demand work that makes headlines. In his preface to the Epica Book – our collection of winning ads, sent out free to all entrants – J. Walter Thompson’s Worldwide Creative Director Matt Eastwood noted that curiosity often provoked creativity. He described Epica as “a celebration of curiosity” judged by journalists: “the very people whose profession demands them to be relentlessly curious”. Why are we different? The Epica jury is made up of journalists. But not just any journalists. They are all editors and senior reporters working for marketing and communications magazines and websites around the world.

Our Jury More than 60 senior editors and reporters at advertising, design and digital publications all over the world. More than 60 journalists independent from agencies and networks, immune to bias and politics. More than 60 experts who’ve spent years observing the advertising industry and analyzing the vision  of advertisers and agencies.
