Desert winter Olympics Games In a certain desert, perhaps here, the Winter Olympics Games preparation has begun. Giant turbines were brought from far away in order to bring the temperature below zero. Hundreds of ski slopes were carved all through the dry mountains. Long wide pipes took water from the ocean to create artificial lakes which were turned into ice by big electric freezers, placed in their bottom. Variety of tents were set all around in groups and among them thousands of signs with arrows were planted, showing the next stops.

But the Olympic Games were never opened. Something happened, a bit of a dispute, personal argument, small boycott and on top of that came an unexpected heat wave. Nobody came to slide in the artificial snow slopes or to skate on the perfect ice surfaces. Actually, no human has ever set foot in the Desert Winter Olympics venue.

Only the machines, the signs and the pavilions, abandoned, were left scattered around in between rocks, dry bushes and sand.

Wind came. Some of the instruments were covered with dust. A deep sound of its whistle was carried in the air. When the wind stopped there was silence again.

The Place Where the Spirit Wanders Hagai Segev In the place where the body is to be found, the spirit of Rotem Manor's art wanders. The spirit of creation and the search for the optimal visual manifestation find a fluid expression, floating between the concrete and the imaginary.

The paintings are means of searching for reality that is absent or can be only found in the beyond, they may add some layers to the reality that is familiar and real. Based on this exploration, the paintings create an atmosphere moving on the axis between the expressive-declarative-critical and a captivating naiveté while giving expression to a human existence even though it is not physically present in them.

The combination of an expressive painting with an outburst of the naïve invite observation of the content depth, of the images and the way they are recreated.

Two opposites exist in the creative thought and are poured onto the surface as a means of dealing with the contradictions.

Frantic colour splashes are coupled with the organisation of thought and objects, so that a logical composition can be created, one that needs to be deciphered. The naiveté of the depictions is captivating, while the expressiveness invites a critical observation by another gaze and study of intentions and meanings, ones which are not always clear and leave room to the personal interpretation of each observer.

The objects are stylised in an immediate and clear manner, almost childlike. There is, however, also a degree of eeriness in the atmosphere that Manor employs. The manner of

combining and connecting the depictions on the canvas adds a touch of terror stemming from her elusive combinations.

The images are reminiscent of fictitious computer games.

Something odd, wonderful and perhaps threatening.

The Habitat painting, for instance, offers a glimpse into the opening of a cave that overlooks a distant landscape. In the center of the composition there is a sea, a lake or a dam, surrounded by hills, with various buildings, vegetation, roads and paths scattered all around. Other objects are a cactus, flora, a structure with a sloping roof, while others are less clear: Is the structure on the left a kind of Noah's Ark? What is the meaning of the ∏ shape? High in the center, between the clouds, is the shape of what looks like an abstract human figure, or is it something different?

The experience created by Rotem Manor is of concrete objects reminding us of things that one can recognise wandering around the countryside: landscapes, architecture, electricity poles, billboards, waste sites etc.

The environment in which these are located, however, resembles a high sphere utopia floating in outer space.

The connection between one object to the other is random, creating a collage in space. An adhesion of realities, a seemingly plain reality that is in fact an undermined reality.

The artist describes the places where she would like to be, the surroundings in which her spirit dwells during the hours of creation. It is a portrayal of the free spirit of man

who wants to break beyond the concrete, real places. The canvas is the opportunity to break beyond these boundaries or at least draw their mark without time, space, and financial limitations. The liberty of thought.

Some of the landscapes look like remains or abandoned objects on deserted side roads of human reality. Sometimes unidentified objects emerge, as clusters of cloud images, from an unknown world that hasn’t a name or title. These manifestations are not formulated by the artist by prior thought but are taking shape on the canvas.

The land is empty of humans, it is entirely inhabited by structures and objects made by an unknown factor. They exist as independent things, such as inanimate plants that tell stories of a rich universe, vibrant yet disturbing. Some of the paintings are reminiscent of silent, deserted underwater landscapes. In them as well, one can sense the existence of life’s riddle.

The wind wandering through the fabrics is the spirit of curiosity, the wonder of creation’s life without people.

Life is derived from the rich strokes of colors made by using the palette knife or brush, and from the effervescence sense of creative thought. This is a homecoming to painting derived from the enjoyment of the act in its basic, simple and uncomplicated form, revealed in the rediscovery of the image for both the painter and the viewer.

‫המקום בו משוטטת הרוח חגי שגב‬ ‫במקום שבו נמצא הגוף ‪ -‬משוטטת רוח האמנות של רותם מנור‪ .‬רוחה של היצירה והחיפוש‬ ‫אחר מרחב הדימוי האופטימאלי‪ ,‬מוצאת ביטוי פלואידי הנע בין הקונקרטי לבדיוני‪ .‬הציורים‬ ‫עצמם הם האמצעי לחיפוש אחר מציאות‪ ,‬שנעדרת או מצויה מעבר‪ ,‬ועשויה להוסיף רובד‬ ‫למציאות המוכרת והממשית‪ .‬מתוך החיפוש הזה נוצרת בציורים אווירה הנעה על הציר שבין‬ ‫אקספרסיביות‪-‬הצהרתית‪-‬ביקורתית לנאיביות שובת‪-‬לב‪ .‬רוח האמנות מצליחה לתת ביטוי גם‬ ‫לגוף שאינו נוכח פיזית‪.‬‬ ‫הצירוף של ציור אקספרסיבי בשילוב עם התפרצות של ציור נאיבי מזמין התבוננות לעומק‬ ‫התכנים והדימויים ואופן יצירתם מחדש‪ .‬שני הפכים מתקיימים במחשבה היצירתית ונשפכים‬ ‫אל פני הנייר כאמצעי להתמודדות עם הסתירות‪ .‬הנחות צבע תזזיתיות לצד סידור במחשבה‬ ‫ובאובייקטים‪ ,‬כך שייווצר מכלול בעל הגיון שיש לפענחו‪ .‬הנאיביות של התיאורים שובת‪-‬לב‬ ‫בעוד האקספרסיביות מזמינה התבוננות ביקורתית באמצעות מבט נוסף של בחינת הכוונות‬ ‫והמשמעויות‪ .‬הכוונות אינן תמיד ברורות ומשאירות מקום לפרשנות האישית של כל צופה‪.‬‬ ‫מרבית האובייקטים המתוארים מסוגננים במבע שנקלט מיידית ובבהירות‪ ,‬על גבול הילדותי‪.‬‬ ‫לצד מבע זה ניכרת גם מידה של מוזרות באווירה השורה במכלול שמנור רוקמת‪ .‬אופן הצירוף‬ ‫וחיבור התיאורים על פני הבדים מוסיף להם נופך המעורר תחושות של אימה הנובעת מהעדר‬ ‫הבהירות בצירוף עולם הדימויים‪ .‬התיאורים מזכירים משחקי מחשב בדיונים‪ .‬משהו מוזר‪,‬‬ ‫מופלא ואולי אפילו מאיים במידת‪-‬מה‪.‬‬ ‫הציור 'בית גידול' )‪ ,(Habitat‬לדוגמה‪ ,‬מציע הצצה אל מבעד לפתח מנהרה הצופה אל נוף‬ ‫מרוחק‪ .‬במרכז התיאור מצוי גוף ימי‪ ,‬אגם או סכר מוקף גבעות‪ .‬על פני נוף זה פזורים מבנים‬ ‫שונים‪ ,‬צמחיה‪ ,‬דרכים ושבילים‪ .‬חלק מהאובייקטים המתוארים ניתנים לזיהוי בקלות כמו‬ ‫קקטוסים‪ ,‬צמחיה‪ ,‬מבנה בעל גג משופע‪ ,‬אולם‪ ,‬אחרים ברורים פחות‪ :‬האם המבנה משמאל‬ ‫הוא מעין תיבת נוח? מה פשר צורת האות ח'‪ ,‬גבוה מצד ימין? האם הצורה בין העננים היא‬ ‫של דמות אדם מופשטת‪ ,‬או שמא משהו אחר?‬ ‫החוויה שיוצרת רותם מנור היא של אובייקטים קונקרטיים שמזכירים לצופה חפצים שהוא‬ ‫יכול לזהות משיטוט ברחבי הארץ‪ :‬נופים‪ ,‬אדריכלות‪ ,‬עמודי חשמל‪ ,‬שלטי חוצות‪ ,‬אתרי פסולת‬ ‫ועוד‪ .‬אולם‪ ,‬הסביבה שבה הם מצויים נדמית לאוטופיה של ספירו ֹת גבוהות‪ ,‬מרחפת בחלל‬

‫החיצון‪ .‬החיבור של אובייקט לאובייקט הוא אקראי‪ ,‬כך שנוצר מרחב קולאז'יסטי‪ :‬הדבקה של‬ ‫מציאויות לכדי מציאות חדשה‪ ,‬לכאורה ברורה‪ ,‬אבל למעשה מערערת מציאות‪.‬‬ ‫רותם מנור מתארת את המקומות שבהם היא הייתה רוצה להיות‪ ,‬או סביבה שבה רוחה‬ ‫נמצאת בשעות של יצירה‪ .‬זהו תיאור של רוח חופשית של האדם הרוצה לפרוץ אל מעבר‬ ‫למקומות הקונקרטיים‪ ,‬הממשיים‪ .‬בד הציור הוא ההזדמנות לפרוץ אל מעבר לגבולות הללו‪ ,‬או‬ ‫לפחות לשרטט את רישומם בלי מגבלות זמן‪ ,‬מקום וממון‪ .‬זהו שחרור המחשבה‪.‬‬ ‫מקצת הנופים נדמים לשרידים או חפצים נטושים בצידי הדרך של המציאות האנושית‪ .‬לעיתים‬ ‫צצים אובייקטים בלתי מזוהים‪ ,‬כמו מצבורי דימויי עננים מעולם ערטילאי לא מוכר‪ ,‬בלי שם‬ ‫וכינוי‪ .‬אלה הם מופעים שאינם מנוסחים על ידי היוצרת מראש‪ ,‬אלא הולכים ולובשים צורה‬ ‫על הבד או הנייר‪.‬‬ ‫הארץ ריקה מאנשים‪ ,‬היא כל כולה מאוכלסת רק מבנים וחפצים שנוצרו על ידי גורם לא נודע‪.‬‬ ‫הם נמצאים ומתקיימים כאובייקטים עצמאיים‪ ,‬מעין צמחים דוממים שמספרים סיפורים של‬ ‫יקום עשיר‪ ,‬תוסס ויחד עם זאת טורד‪ .‬חלק מן הציורים מזכירים נופים תת‪-‬ימיים דוממים‪,‬‬ ‫נטושים‪ .‬אולם גם בציורים אלה אפשר לחוש בקיומם של מערכי‪-‬חיים פחות מוסברים‪.‬‬ ‫הרוח המשוטטת על פני הבדים היא רוח הסקרנות‪ ,‬הפליאה מחיוּת היצירה בלי אנשים‪ .‬החיות‬ ‫נובעת מתוך המשיכות הדשנות של הצבעים באמצעות סכין הפלטה או המכחול‪ .‬וגם מתוך‬ ‫תחושת רוח התסיסה של המחשבה היצירתית‪ .‬זו חזרה לציור מתוך התענגות על מעשה‬ ‫הציור בצורתו הבסיסית‪ ,‬הפשוטה והישירה ביותר‪ ,‬שמתענגת על גילוי הדימוי מחדש עבור‬ ‫הציירת ועבור הצופה‪ ,‬כאחד‪.‬‬

‫אולימפיאדת החורף במדבר‬ ‫באזור מדברי‪ ,‬נניח שכאן‪ ,‬מתכוננים לאולימפיאדת החורף‪ .‬טורבינות ענק הובאו מרחוק כדי להוריד את הטמפרטורה מתחת לאפס‪ .‬בהרים נחצבו מאות מסלולים‬ ‫לגלישת סקי‪ .‬צינורות שמנים וארוכים הביאו מים מהאוקיאנוס כדי לקוות אגמים בעמקי המדבר ומתחת לפני האגמים תקעו מקפיאים שהפכו אותם לקרח‪ .‬אוהלים‬ ‫בגדלים שונים הוצבו בקבוצות‪ ,‬ובינות לאוהלים ולמתקנים ניטעו בקרקע היבשה אלפי שלטים עם חיצים המורים לאן להמשיך‪.‬‬ ‫אבל משהו קרה והאולימפיאדה מעולם לא נפתחה‪ .‬סכסוך פנימי‪ ,‬חילוקי דעות‪ ,‬חרם קטן ושביתה כללית בצירוף של חמסין לא צפוי גרמו לכך‪ .‬אף אחד לא בא‬ ‫לגלוש בשלג המלאכותי שהותז במדרונות ולא להחליק על גבי משטחי הקרח החלקים‪.‬‬ ‫בעצם‪ ,‬אף אדם לא הספיק לדרוך במקום‪ .‬רק המכונות‪ ,‬השלטים והמבנים‪ ,‬נטושים‪ ,‬נשארו פזורים בין אבנים‪ ,‬שיחים יבשים‪ ,‬הרים וחול‪.‬‬ ‫הגיעה רוח‪ .‬חלקם כוסו באבק וקול שריקה נמוכה נשמע באוויר‪ .‬כשהסתלקה הרוח השתרר שקט‪.‬‬ ‫המדבר נשם לרווחה‪.‬‬ ‫רותם מנור‪2019 ,‬‬
