About Inbar Horkany’s paintings Hagit Grossman Inbar Horkany paints with trembling hands, delving into the depths of characters trapped in the Tel Aviv rat race, her eyes gazing into their souls, seeing their innermost workings. She draws characters caught in an existential search, frowning, examining themselves dejectedly in the mirror, gazing at their images with an unmediated intimacy, seated cross-legged on chairs, expressions hungry, craving to be revealed before her, eyes sorrowful against a room saturated with lovely bright colors.

The paintings, distorting their faces, reveal something previously concealed, a fact unknown even to them – a forced aggressiveness they must display, despite their fated weakness as fragile and helpless figures. The smile may be crooked, but joy appears suddenly with contact, when the loneliness is banished.

Yet, this is not always the case, and sometimes a war is waged.

Only love has the power to heal the chronic mental turmoil, to stop the grinding pace. With love, these works are imbued with a revitalizing power, a possibility of screaming aloud in living color capable of expressing, speaking truth, and living.
