Sketchbook Volume 72 was completed between April 9th and August 16th, 2009 by Hal Mayforth Except for the omission of several pages, this is the complete book. It is unedited and all the ink blobs and smudges are intact. I started keeping sketchbooks in 1975 in earnest for a drawing class and have been doing them ever since. I try to start every workday by meditating for 20 minutes and drawing in my sketchbook for and hour. I find that the meditation clears my mind and makes my drawing more measured and focused. Often I start without preconceived ideas and instead respond to the marks on the page. Other times I have an idea that I bring to the drawing session. What emerges by drawing daily is a rhythm as evidenced in this volume. Some days it all falls together and other days it’s a real struggle and it’s those days when it all falls together that make it all worthwhile.
