A Burial site of former slaves is also preserved and protected here. 27th annual Salute to Veterans Celebration MAY 23-24, 2015 SALUTE TO VETERANS AIRSHOW MAY 25, 2015 PARADE Columbia Regional Airport and Downtown Columbia, salute.org This FREE annual Two-Day Air Show and Parade is presented every Memorial Day Weekend by Salute to Veterans Corporation to: “Honor and Remember Those Who Serve, Those Currently Serving in Our Armed Forces, Guard, Reserves and Our Allies.” The FREE (no admission fee, no parking fee) Air Show, which is at Columbia Regional Airport, showcases over 40 military aircraft from WWI to the present on the tarmac and flying, plus USA, USAF, USN and USMC Demonstration Teams, aircraft and static displays. The Salute to Veterans Parade on Memorial Day is “jump-started” by the USA Parachute Team prior to the 165-units moving down Broadway. It includes veterans, bands, military reunion groups, and Honored Military Guests, while the planes from the Airshow fly overhead to honor fallen comrades. It ends at the Boone County Courthouse where a military ceremony is held and a speech on the meaning of Memorial Day is given by the ranking military Honored Guest.
