Beau Murphy and his doting little sister were lucky. Summer vacation was as fresh as the first watermelon from their aunt’sgarden. The trees on the edge of the woods where she waited anxiously for him to return stirred gently in the pre-storm breeze, one that was a just a little too chilly for summer. They were supposed to spend that evening staying up too late watching movies and rotting their teeth with the candy that Beau had run over to the QuickStop to pick up, just on the other side of the woods —but that never happened. Those woods they loved so much, the winding country roads, the family orchard just up the way, their cozy country home—it was all so perfect. Too good to be true. Everybody knew who was to blame. It was obvious, but it seemed a little too obvious. She fought to uncover the truth like her life depended on it. She had to end the nightmare she had created before it ended her. The problem with nightmares is that some of them never really end we just learn to live in them.
