Introduction An update to the Library•Solution software is called a Patch. Patches are cumulative; meaning that when you update your Library•Solution system with the current patch, it not only includes the update (changes/modifications) for the current patch, but also includes all of the previous patches that were distributed by The Library Corporation in prior months. For your convenience, the patches are listed with the latest release coming first in the document. If you want to review what a particular Patch included, locate the Patch number within this documentation (see Table of Contents) and review the information (listed by module) for that patch. If you are reviewing this document electronically, simply click the item in the table of contents to view the item.

Software Updates

Patch 7 Release Date: Feb. 5, 2010 LS2 Circ – Improvements 1.

Renew a checked out item from the Titles and Copies page - LS2 Circ now provides the ability to Renew an Item from the Titles and Copies page. If an item is checked out, and the item is selected on the Item(s) list, a Click to Renew link will display below the Notices section of the Item Details information. Clicking the link will renew the check out. The Renewed field will display N (Last mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm). The N indicates the number of renewals for this item, followed by the date and time of the last renewal. If another renewal for this item is performed for this borrower, N will increment by one (1) and the date will be updated appropriately. TLC Reference # IC 1260

2.

Batch operation functionality on the Check Out screen - LS2 Circ now provides the ability to perform batch operations for the Renew Selected and Mark Selected (Lost, Claims Returned, Claims Never Out) functions on the Check Out Items page. The first column of the Check Out Items grid now displays a check box for each item on the list, which is used to select the items to be included in the batch operation. Selecting the check box in the column heading automatically selects all of the items on the list.

Also, only the selected Location(s) will be displayed on the Location drop-down list in the Log On dialog. TLC Reference # IC 1336

LS2 Circ – Defects 1.

Borrower Check Out and Overdue Limits handled incorrectly - Previously, LS2 Circ was not invoking a block to borrowing based on the Check Out Limit and Overdue Limit settings in Library•Solution Preferences until the number of a borrower’s Check Outs or Overdues exceeded those settings by one (1). This problem has been resolved. LS2 Circ will now invoke a block to borrowing when a borrower’s Check Outs or Overdues equal the setting number. These changes will result in LS2 Circ functioning in the same manner as the L.S 4.x Circulation client. Note: The actual Check Out and Overdue Limits will not be changed in Library•Solution Preferences with this patch, LS2 Circ will just be handling them differently. If you would like LS2 Circ to continue invoking blocks at the current rate, you will need to increase the Check Out and Overdue limits by one (1) in Library•Solution Preferences. If you have any questions or would like assistance, please contact TLC Support. TLC Reference # IC 1400

Cataloging – Improvements 1. Updating Bibliographic 005 for Authority Changes - The Authority Control process has been improved to automatically update the 005 Last Transaction Date on bibliographic records affected by a change in a controlling authority record. The 005 update occurs in the background so the cataloger does not have to wait for all bibliographic records to be updated (since several may be linked to a single authority record) to resume work. For this reason, 005 changes may not be visible in all affected bibliographic records for several minutes. This enhancement will be of critical importance to libraries upgrading to LS2 PAC. TLC Reference # LSB 655 / LSB 993

Cataloging – Defects 1. Record access conflict caused Cataloging to become unresponsive - Previously, the Cataloging application would become unresponsive whenever a user attempted to access a record and the Authority Update process was updating the same record. This problem has been resolved. TLC Reference # LSB 980 LS2 Circ – Improvements 1. Bookings in LS2 Circ - If your library uses Library•Booking, LS2 Circ now provides you the ability to view a borrower's current Bookings, Cancel a Booking on the list, and to compile a Pick List (including options to pick early). A borrower’s current bookings can be viewed and cancelled on the Bookings sub-tab, accessed by clicking the Requests option on the Borrower Services tab (Figure 3-4, next page). A Pick List can be compiled using the new Bookings option under the Staff Services tab (Figure 3-5, next page).

2. Ability to limit a user's log on capabilities to specific locations - The Users page, accessed from the Staff Services tab, now provides administrators the ability to specify the locations that a User can access. When the Users page is accessed, the new Login Locations option (Figure 3-6) in the User Specific Permissions section displays a list box with all locations selected by default. Selecting a single location from the list will clear the default selections and will highlight only the selected location. To select multiple locations, press and hold the Ctrl key while using your mouse pointer to scroll through the list and select the desired locations. At any time, you can use the Select All / Deselect All options under the list box to select all locations, or clear all selections. TLC Reference # IC 1302

LS2 Circ – Defects 1. Ability to load a title with many items without the application timing out - Previously, when a user attempted to load a record on the Titles and Items screen of Staff Services, an error would occur and the title could not be loaded. This problem has been resolved. TLC Reference # IC 1317

Online Borrower Registration (OBR) – Defects 1. OBR registration using Internet Explorer caused an unexpected call error Previously, when a user attempted to register via the OBR process using the Internet Explorer browser, an Unexpected Call Error displayed instead of the Registration Successful message. This problem has been resolved. Z39.50 Server – Defects 1. Certain searches caused Z39.50 server to fail - Previously, if a search term was submitted via a Z39.50 client that began with the word “AND,” or a search term contained an extremely long title, the Z39.50 server was unable to process the search. This problem has been resolved. TLC Reference # CNTS 160

Patch 2 Release Date: July 15, 2009 Circulation – Improvements 1. Ability to utilize a Webcam to insert a borrower picture directly into L.S CIRC Circulation now provides the option to use a Webcam to take a photo of a borrower. You can then save the photo to the database, and the new photo will automatically display in Circulation. This function can be performed when the borrower's account is displayed on the Check Out (F2) tab, or when the Summary borrower option is selected on the Borrower <borrower name> (F6) tab. This feature was designed to work with the Logitech QuickCam® Pro Webcam, but may work with other brands and models. Note: This functionality is not compatible with using Circulation in the Microsoft Windows Terminal Services environment. Before You Begin 

Before you can use the Take Picture option you must have a Webcam attached to, and installed on the PC you want to use.

After the camera is installed, and before you begin using it: o

You should test to determine the optimum distance from the camera to position a subject, so that their face is within the capture area marked by the red frame (Figure 2-1, next page). You may want to mark this location in some way for future reference.

o

You should consider the impact to the image of the available lighting, what may be seen in the photo background and whether you have the option to choose a better location for subjects to be positioned when taking photos.

o

Depending on the height of the individual, some adjustment to the up / down angle of the camera may be necessary.

o

Clicking the Mirror button reverses the orientation of the displayed image. Depending on whether the subject is facing you, or beside you facing in the same direction, one setting or the other may be more intuitive for you when providing instructions to the subject as you position the person within the red capture frame.

To Take a Picture Load the borrower’s account on the Check Out (F2) tab, or alternately load the account on the Borrower <borrower name> (F6) tab and select the Summary option. a.

Right-click the placeholder box, or the existing image, and select Take Picture from the pop-up menu.

b.

A Camera dialog (Figure 2-1, next page) will open displaying two empty boxes. The Select Camera drop-down list displays all video capture devices installed on the PC you are using. From the drop-down list select the model of the Webcam you are using and click the Connect button, as shown in the left example on the next page.

2. Improving the Check Out transaction time - Circulation has been modified to improve the time it takes to check out items to a borrower who has a large number of items (up to 500) checked out. TLC Reference # LSC 1880 3. E-mail notices now identify the Borrower’s issuing location - A database configuration has been added, which when enabled will append the borrower’s Issuing Location short description to the e-mail’s Subject field. This feature has been added to provide consortium libraries a way to identify the owning branch of rejected e-mail. Libraries interested in having this feature enabled must contact TLC Support. TLC Reference # LSC 1892

4. Marking Items Lost - When using the Mark Lost option on the Check Out screen, or selecting Lost on a Special Status Check In, the dialogs that open display a Modify button. Clicking the Modify button opens the Charge Modification dialog containing Comment, Charge Type, and Amount fields. To provide library administrators better control over the use of the Charge Type and Amount options on these dialogs, a new permission, Modify Charges, has been added to the Groups option list of Permissions in Library•Solution Preferences. 14

Library•Solution: V4.2 Enhancements and Patch Documentation – Feb. 2010

The options for this permission are Enable / Disable. If this permission is set to Disabled for the logged on User type and the user selects the Modify button, the Comment field will be the only option available. TLC Reference # LSC 1999 5. Advise user when Outreach borrower has previously checked out a title Circulation now provides an option to notify the circulation desk at Check Out when an Outreach Services borrower has previously checked out a title. If the option is enabled, at Check Out, when a title the borrower had previously checked out is scanned, a message will display advising This borrower has previously checked out this title. Are you sure you want to continue with the Check Out? This option is enabled on the Borrower Type Editor form in Library•Solution Preferences. When the Outreach Services Borrower check box is selected, a second check box labeled Use Outreach History will display. Select this check box to enable the option. For this option to work, Turn on Loan History must be selected in Preferences under Location Setup | Defaults. Additionally, in Circulation, under Configuration (Borrower Options) the Record Loan History Statistics option must be selected for the Borrower's account. TLC Reference # LSC 1868 Circulation – Defects 1. Check In allowed waive of charges when the Borrower Charges option was disabled - Previously, when the Borrower Charges permission was disabled in Preferences, Circulation was allowing waiving of charges at Check In.
