Plenum cable is run: •   Between structural ceiling      and suspended ceiling. •   Under a raised floor.

All the computers are connected in a straight line This is not used today unless it already exists It is quite slow If one computer goes down the whole network goes down • The size of the Network is limited by the cable length, as the signal is lost after a certain distance

10

Terminator- stops signal from being lost

• All the computers are connected to a Central Hub

13

HUB- job to make the signal stronger, connects to server

14

16 port hub, hubs can connect to other hubs "daisy chaining", RJ-45 at the end.

15

16

Hub- switches are a fancier version of a hub that are more powerful and expensive

High quality, expensive cable used to connect the hubs.

Patch- lower quality cable not as expensive used to connect PCs to hubs.

17

18

More cables to connect from one computer to another, more reliable.

Twisting also protects, if it is wrapped tighter it is more protected and more expensive.

Higher quality, more expensive, wrapped tighter.

shields all at once, less expensive.

Verizon FiOS Best cable of all, uses light instead of electricity, can use light because of glass, so the light would spread as if it where hitting a prism, core not metal. Laid under the ocean, has to be glass because salt would corrode metal in copper wires.

Glass, not metal, runs light

Routers connect two different LAN's Routers can read IP addresses. IP addresses are different on everything. 21.30.39.80 is different than 21.35.60.80, but 21 is the same because it is on the same network. Different primary numbers usually means its on a different network. MAC address is older than IP Address. Running out of numbers, going to create IP 6, has more numbers than IP 4.
