Heavy Metal Kitchens Story by Sarah Robertson

Heavy metal has found its way back onto the fashion runways and music scene, so why not in the kitchen? Here are a few ideas to bring some metal glam into your kitchen, whether you are renovating or just changing up the look of your current kitchen.

Ann Morris Antiques’ custom pot racks are a long time favorite of mine, mixing sophisticated traditional styling with rich metal finishes. They can also be crafted with integral holophane lights. Made entirely of cast brass, the pot racks are offered in 9 custom finishes or unlacquered brass.

Of course no article on heavy metal would be complete without some robust cabinet pulls. I love these rectangular English bin pulls from White Chapel Ltd. They are far more hefty than the average cup pull, and in a polished nickel finish, add considerable shine to your drawer faces. Crafted from cast brass, they are available in 5 finishes.

For a more dramatic commitment to metal, consider metal countertops on the perimeter or island. Almost impervious to stains, metal countertops will develop a patina of age over time that lends an old world artisanal richness to your kitchen. Brooks Custom, in Mt. Kisco, NY, specializes in specialty wood and metal fabrication, including countertops crafted in bronze, copper, stainless, zinc and pewter. 36
