ELGIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS ELGIN, ILLINOIS

[August 2006-May 2007]

The project seeks to create a public, social institution dedicated both to the presentation of art and cultural medi/heritage as well as the education of the public. This institution will be a strategic member of the cultural facilities of the city and the greater community at large. It’s location will foster development and provide a new gateway into the center of the city at the southern end of the current downtown.

AXON HOUSING : EDUCATION CITY

QATAR CITY, UAE [May 2007] The Qatar Foundation competition for the residential components of Education CIty required urban planning principles, coupled with complexed safety and comfort solutions to brave the desert climate. Through the use of sun-shades, breezeways, pools, and screenwalls on the residential villas to passively moderate and protect the residents from the heat and outside world, an interior urban situation was delicately formed. Designed as part of the competition team at Jonathan Levi Architects.

SITE PLAN

ETYMOLOGY

aXon housing derives its inspiration from the lace-like interconnections of the brain whose ‘axons’ are the moments of intersection between pathways of communication. Housing is not an adjunct to university education but a core resource providing opportunities for spontaneous intellectual exchange and informal learning. Like its biological prototype, aXon housing’s configuration allows for a multiplicity of interconnections through the manifold orientations of its residences and through its system of covered open air walkways.

DOULOS DISCOVERY SCHOOL JARABACOA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC [February 2010 - May 2011]

Doulos Discovery School, a non-profit, accredited private school, is an integral part ofthe Jarabacoa community. As quality education is rare in the Dominican Republic, the school’s success and growth is a very pivotal success for the educational climate both in the DR as well as the schools in the US or Europe where the students will matriculate to. Children and their families are often caught in a cycle of poverty as the only opportunity at a quality education comes from provate schools whose tuitions are well beyond the means of the average hard working citizens. KIDS CLUB | CABRINI GREEN

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS [January 2003-May 2004] The project was created in conjunction with Kids Club, a after-school non-for-profit organization dedicated to the enrichment and tutoring of the children of the Cabrini Green housing complex. Over the course of a semester Judson University students met with and tutored the students in Cabrini, and through investing time and intent in the community, designed insertions into a donated former elementary school to generate meaning and aid with the renewal of the community through education and service.

This mixed-use project located in Chengdu’s city creates an centralized cultural/office reisdential node complete with conference center, retail, office, and two residential towers. Sculpted lobby/Skylobby featuring monolithic marble walls and canted, lacquered paneled ceiling meant to feel crystalline, as if one were inside a geode. Designed while on a team at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill LLP.

DUBAI, UAE [March-October, 2013] Atlantis Dubai Phase II is a comprehensive re-interpretaiton of the Atlantis resort brand, as well as an iconic addition to the Dubai skyline. Designed as a portal and showcase for art, as well as to provide multiple vistas both towards the city and ocean, this extension of the Atlantis resort acts as a gateway to Dubai’s future. KINGDOM TOWER

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA [January 2012-April 2014] At over 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and a total construction area of 530,000 square meters (5.7 million square feet), Kingdom Tower will be the centerpiece and first construction phase of the $20 billion Kingdom City development in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, near the Red Sea. Kingdom Tower will be a mixed-use building featuring a luxury hotel, office space, serviced apartments, luxury condominiums and the world’s highest observatory. Kingdom Tower, which will be the world’s tallest tower when completed, was designed to be the centerpiece of a new phase of the booming city of Jeddah. In addition to the Core and Shell CD design package, the team designed and documented the R1 and R2 residential tiers; over 60 stories of residential units brought through CD phase.

AL KHOBAR, SAUDI ARABIA [September 2007- December 2008] The 675,680 sq. ft. Burj Al Oula complex is a mixeduse project consisting of a 48 story tower including five star hotel, luxury office space, retail mall, conference facilities, and public marina. Located on the Al Khobar Corniche, it is the centerpiece of new development in the Eastern Province city of Al Khobar, and is designed to create a gateway to and from the nearby causeway to the island Kingdom of Bahrain. Designed as part of a team at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill LLP.
