LAMP INTERNET OF THINGS
BRIEF: Identify an opportunity for an IoT smart product for use in the modern home that aims to enhance the users quality of life through an app or other interface.
INDIVIDUAL PROJECT 9 WEEKS
Insight Sleep deprivation in adults and teens occurs when the body does not spend sufficient time in each stage of the sleep cycle. A full nightâ€™s sleep with adequate time in the REM cycle is important for restorative sleep which aids memory consolidation and muscle repair. INITIAL IDEA
Ideation As this project was primarily a form based brief I began with lots of quick rapid sketches before moving onto larger, more detailed sketches to finalise the form and function of my design. FINAL DESIGN
Scenario My next development step was to explore how the user would use and interact with the product by creating a scenario of use.

Appearance Model The final step in this project was to produce an appearance model. The model consists of a hand sanded Pro-lab body with a vacuum formed casing that has then been primed and sprayed matte white to imitate a frosted acrylic finish. The form of the lamp aims to be elegant and non intrusive with soft curved features to convey a sense of calm and tranquillity to the user. Infra red motion sensors down the front surface control light levels with the stroke of a hand. A microphone and vibration sensor in the base monitor the user during sleep. MODELLING
Snooze SLEEP MONITORING SMART LAMP By tracking their sleep patterns Snooze aims to naturally improve the users sleep phases through specific, targeted advice via the accompanying smart phone app.

GRAPHIC PACKAGING INTâ€™L BRIEF: Barbecue Fun In The sun Develop a fun style carton pack suitable to hold both food and drink to take to and use at a barbecue.

Carton Pack IDEATION
Simply Barbecue A modest carton pack containing three boxes of barbecue food, four cold beverage cartons and cutlery and plates for four. Aims to reduce food and packaging waste by containing everything a group of four needs in a compact and easy to carry container minus bbq. Hence the name Simply barbecue.
Barbecue! ‘Simply’ contains four beverage cartons with tearable nozzles for easy access. Three cartons of sealed barbecue food and four sets of wood cutlery. The side walls can also be torn away and used as serving plates. SEQUENCE OF USE
Scale Model To enter Starpack produced a scale carton model using accurate materials and joining methods.
TANDEM - CITY CYCLING APP BRIEF: Through in depth user research identify an opportunity for, and design a smart phone app for use in a modern smart city environment.
GROUP RESEARCH 6 WEEKS INDIVIDUAL DESIGN 4 WEEKS
UX Research As a group we decided to focus our project toward city cycling. Research began with solo user interviews before coming together to define our concept and goals before again separating to develop our own individual apps. METHODOLOGY
Cyclist interviews and surveys allowed us to explore user needs and desires and identify problems and opportunity’s for evidence based insights, such as how even experienced cyclists can feel vulnerable in the city.
Group brainstorming & concept generation enabled us to identify multiple opportunities for innovation whilst also considering technological, and societal issues. We also created a target persona; Joe from Liverpool.
To define the graphical and information layout of my design I produced multiple wire frame concepts and paper prototypes which I then tested and evaluated with several different users and scenarios.
In order to start producing my final screen designs further user testing was required this time in a real world scenario by using the ‘POP’ mobile app. This allowed me to refine the interaction and visual design of my app.
Screens After finalising the concept and function of the app the next step was to produce multiple sketch wireframes to allow paper prototyping with users before finalising the screens appearance in Photoshop. The red path indicates the primary user route through the app. WIREFRAMING
Axure RP The final stage of this project was to produce a working app prototype using the final app screens and Axure RP. My prototype can be viewed online at:
Scenario of Use
3. Joe gets on his bike placing his phone on
the handle bar mount and begins his route.
The main purpose of Tandem is to act as a cycling navigation aid within the city in order to reduce the users feeling of unease and uncertainty. STORYBOARDING
4. As Joe cycles Tandem acts as
a navigation aide with step by step visual and audio prompts.
2. He opens the Tandem, app and searches for the fastest route to the company offices.
1. Joe is leaving for an
important client meeting, he has never been before and cannot be late.
5. En-route Tandem alerts Joe to traffic ahead and diverts his route accordingly so he arrives on time.
7. Joe locks up his bike secure in
the knowledge his bike is safe for the duration of his meeting.
6. Joe arrives at the offices
and Tandem directs him to the nearest secure lock up.
8. He arrives on time and stress free.
Tandem has made him feel at ease and has removed the stress from his commute.
PRODUCT ANALYSIS & RE-DESIGN BRIEF: After in depth observational analysis, re-design your given product with regard to function, ergonomics, form and sustainability to create a new product.
GROUP PROJECT 10 WEEKS
SPORTS BLENDER DISASSEMBLY During disassembly every component was analysed and sketched to determine its material and construction method. The product was then reassembled to explore how appliances are assembled and to identify areas for improvement in terms of ergonomics, sustainability and form. DECONSTRUCTION
Feedback, Scripting & Detailing
Sustainability could be improved by a pragmatist, repairable design. A modular form would allow easy component repair or replacement. Multi-functionality could enhance product value and service life. The final design was modelled in blue foam bfore rendering. FINAL CONCEPT

THE MODULAR HAND BLENDER Modul is a pragmatist designed modular hand and flask blender. Itâ€™s modular design allows easy access and replacement of components thereby reducing material usage and improving product lifespan. Modul acts as two products, a flask blender and hand blender. A portable flask with interchangeable nozzles further increases multi-functionality. FINAL RENDER

ILLUSTRATIONS & COMICS
Despite drawing X-Wings on every school exercise book Iâ€™ve ever owned this hobby truly started at A-Level when I earned a Trinity Arts Award as part of my extended studies by creating my own short Sci-fi graphic novel. This soon grew into Photoshop sketching and more detailed marker illustrations.
