BANK PROJECT


BANK DESIGN

The ATB Bank Design Competition was created to challenge students to design a mixed-use building that housed an ATB Bank branch in one half, and a space that gave back to the community in the other half. This project presented many challenges, one of which was learning and meeting the zoning requirements of the lot in the Quarters district of downtown Edmonton that had been chosen. Creating an original design that not only represented ATB’s values but also those of the Quarters was also a challenge. The design quickly came to life around “dynamic” the concept word I chose.

Concept statement: “Dynamic” embodies ATB’s beliefs because they are changing the way Alberta banks in order to help their customers move forwards and progress. It represents a constant change or progression, which is exactly what you want when you’re thinking about banking. You never want your money to be stagnant in a bank, you want it to be growing in order to help take you further. “Dynamic” also represents the revitalization of the Quarters, as the area continues to grow this building will act as a catalyst to encourage further growth and development in the area.

· After constructing a model related to my theme I began to experiment with different massings. · Bubble diagrams were sketched out to better understand the flow of the building before a final floor plan was created.

¡ The floor plan was designed around the idea of having a large open space adjacent to the curtain wall facing the river. ¡ Offices were placed as far back as possible to allow as much natural light into the building as possible.

WHITE PHARMACY

· The White Pharmacy was a project that introduced more advanced features using SketchUp. · One of these features was importing a floor plan from AutoCAD to SketchUp and then creating a model from it. · Once modeled, iRender was used to render, add backgrounds, and adjust lighting.

· The Whole Life Medical Centre is a model created in Revit using an imported AutoCAD floor plan. · Aside from the interior and exterior renderings this project was created to demonstrate how the various construction phases work in Revit. · Certain areas were set to be demolished, with others constructed to create an easy view of upcoming renovation plans.
