This is the square square in front of the entrance of the library, but it was the backyard of many houses. This square needs order, visually and conceptually. This can be achieved by creating a building that make “centrality”. The idea is use this space to envolve kids in the library by building somethin for them, at their scale.

The first step was to dialogate with the articulated spaces with a system of cubes. Cubes can both give order and give freedom to the shape experimenting *like playing with lego). overlapping corners is a nice way to achieve different goals: define better the edges; no corridors but a continuum of space; and last but not least, makes a more dynamic space while it still keeps simple volumes.

Since i wanted to work with a massive wood construction it came out was a good idea to use a 30x30cm log that is the unit to make seats and tables both for kids and adults. The relationship between the backyard façades and the project was made by tilting the “boxes”, following or contrasting the surrounding. The space between logs could be used also as a library.

The full dovetail notch used in the reality permits an easy and rapid construction, and is a good re-elaboration of a traditional and old scandinavian building method. The model in a scale 1:50 was made with the same method: the design permitted to build it up almost without glue but only by wedging. Between two logs, was also possible to insert high-performances windows.
