UP DATE

We have had a fantastic response and start to the Youth Music programme, working in a number of areas across the city since October. Our first groups of young people are coming to the end of their musical courses which means were busy looking at sustainable avenues for them, whilst we relocate our expertise elsewhere in the city.

Here’s a little news on what we’ve been up to…

CANLEY

Xcel Centre Since November we have been running Beats Production sessions with the UFE crew at the Xcel centre. The Youth club has some DJ-ing kit from previous work which has been untouched for some time. After hearing about our Changing Trax proposed outcomes Angela (Youth Club manager) and her team had the idea of training the young people on this kit so that they could sustain sessions themselves beyond the project’s completion. These sessions are due to run until Spring.

WILLENHALL

HILLFIELDS

The Tooth

HillzFM

After consulting with the Willenhall Providers group, we have set up a regular Mc-ing/Dj-ing group at the Tooth since November. Through outreach, prior to the first session, we targeted engagement at those local males aged 14-19 showing signs of risky behaviours. The session regularly see’s at least 15 lads through the door each week.

ING CHANG PRODUCTION

On a Friday afternoon we have a regular slot at HillzFM where we have a core group of young people gaining skills in Radio Broadcasting. The session is built round developing the young people’s practical skills alongside developing their personal/ethical attributes. These young people will become peer mentors for the next round of young people involved on the programme. They have taken complete ownership of the slot, taking control of the creative direction; music played and points of discussion.

LiNK PRU

HillzFM As part of the LiNK’s personal development lessons, we’ve been working on building new interests and self-confidence through Radio broadcasting with a small group of students.

A LOOK TO 2014 Our delivery is on schedule so far, but is due to expand dramatically this year as our second module of work starts. We are keen to welcome new partners into delivery discussions at any point. We are due to bring Changing Trax out to a number of schools in the next few weeks.

OPEN MIC 1st event 26 January 2014 - Canal Basin Our first session offering performance opportunities will begin in a couple of weeks’ time at the Canal Basin. On the last Sunday of every month, we will give the opportunity to any young people in the city 11+ to perform live on stage (N.B: They do not need to attend a Changing Trax session in order to perform). A basic instrument and microphone set up will be ready and set up for any groups to use; there will also be a sound engineer on site so performers can alternatively use backing tracks to accompany them. Spectators are encouraged to come down and show some support.
