Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us better! We are excited about the possbility of being on an adoption journey together.

To us, openness is a realtionship built on honesty and trust, through open communication and open hearts. By keeping a dialogue, our relationship can grow and evolve over time to make sure that everyone is happy and healthy. We want our child to know their roots and to be proud of them!

About Us We met at the University of Guelph in 2008, introduced through friends at a Trivia Night at a local pub (we came in second!). We began dating in 2010 and tied the knot in May 2017.

The City of Toronto has been our home for the last six years. We love to explore the diverse neighbourhoods, take part in local festivals, and soak up the culture.

Matt is a scientist working for a pharmaceutical company specializing in vaccines. He ensures that the vaccines are safe and effective. Joe is an architectural designer working at a firm specializing in entertainment; designing projects across Canada and around the globe.

Our most ambitious goal is to start a family, and to continue to build upon our family traditions. We set goals and accomplish them together. One way that we do this, is by creating a list of 100 things to do every year. This helps us to persue happiness and find joy in the present.

About Matt (by Joe) Matt is my best friend, confidant, and a wonderful husband. He is hardworking, reliable, fun to be with, has a knack for puzzles and games, and his smile is contagious. He brings out the best in people, myself included, and is central to organizing social gatherings with friends and family. If there is a gathering with games involved, you can be sure that Matt will be in the thick of things and bringing everyone into the fun.

Matt has a lot of interests and hobbies. Some of his passions include playing pick-up ultimate frisbee, baking (his homemade key lime pie is unreal), and all things sci-fi/outer space.

One of my favorite things about Matt is how great he is with kids. He’s curious about the world and connects with children in a way that gets them interested in new things. It is not unusual for Matt and our niece to be found conducting science experiments, comparing leaves collected on a hike, or cuddled up reading a book together.

Matt is patient, warm and sees humour in the world around him. I know he will be an excellent father and I cannot wait to nurture a child with him!

About Joe (by Matt) Joe was born in Alberta, went to elementary school in Michigan, finished high school in Texas and completed his university education in Ontario. Moving around Canada and the United States has really shaped Joe into the man he is today. He is able to make friends wherever he goes, find his place within any community, and not only sets ambitious goals but also achieves them.

Over the last few years, Joe has volunteered at the Hillside Music Festival in the Children’s Activity Area. While volunteering, Joe can be found in the craft tent, helping children of all ages with their creative works. He is so patient and encouraging that the kids love to work with him. Joe has two nieces who adore him. Watching him dance and play with them has been absolutely heartwarming.

I am so excited to see Joe become a father. He has many wonderful qualities and traits and will be wonderful at raising a child. Joe will be his child’s advocate, making sure their needs are always met. Joe will be his child’s teacher, helping them learn outside of the classroom. Joe will be his child’s coach, pushing them to set and achieve their goals. Joe is going to be a fantastic father!

Our Home We live in a cute three bedroom house located in the neighbourhood of Cedarvale, a hidden gem in the City of Toronto. We have an excellent backyard to play in and are within a 10 minute walk to a splash pad in the summer, a skating rink and toboggan hill in the winter, and the Cedarvale Ravine where you can go on beautiful hikes throughout the year.

We have a five year old, three legged cat, named Peggy. She is quiet, sweet and very cuddly. Peg is very smart and has learned how to use the toilet instead of the litter box however, she doesn’t flush!

The centre of our home is the kitchen. We love to make food together and are always trying new recipes. Even when life gets busy, we make sure to share our dinner together at the kitchen table every night.

Our Families We are fortunate to have the love and support of a large extended family throughout Southern Ontario and North America. It seems that the number of family traditions we have grows every year and we cannot wait to include our child in them!

Annually we attend many events. A few highlights include: Toronto Gay Pride Festival to catch up with friends and family; a trip to Joe’s family farm for American Thanksgiving in Connecticut; the Brampton Santa Claus Parade with Matt’s family (after the parade, we watch a Christmas movie and play Christmas themed games). Our lives are enriched by our families which is why we spend so much time with them!

Matt comes from a family of five and Joe comes from a family of four. Everyone is excited and supportive of our adoption journey.

Our Friends Like the traditions we have with our families, we have started many with our friends over the years. Our friends are close with our parents and siblings, and occasionally attend family events. In the summer we go camping, choosing a different Provincial Park every trip; we celebrate a ‘Friendsgiving’ in October or November, and everyone brings a dish to share.

We believe that in life you have to remember to make time for the good things, so we prioritize celebrations, be it birthdays, weddings, or promotions! Anything is a reason to get together.

Our friends are so excited for us, and have been wonderfully supportive through the process of becoming AdoptReady. Our child will be surrounded by loving and nurturing adults and will be embraced into a growing cohort of friends and cousins.

Our Hobbies & Interests We are an active couple. We love going for walks around different neighbourhoods in the city and hiking through nature. Joe is a huge fan of art and museums and finds interesting galleries and exhibits to visit. Matt is always hunting for fun experiences like concerts, movies, plays, and “best of” lists to try.

One of our biggest passions is travel. When we aren’t travelling, we are planning our next trip. We love to try cooking and baking foods from the countries we’ve visited and those that we’d love to go to in the future.

On rainy afternoons, we spend time at home reading, playing board games, or watching shows on Netflix. Joe loves stand-up comedy and Matt is a huge fan of sci-fi.

One of our absolute favourite things are festivals! We attend festivals of any kind, and enjoy discovering new ones. Some of the festivals we attend every year with our family and friends are the Winter Solstice Festival in Kensington Market, the Toronto Pride Festival, the Hillside Music Festival in Guelph, Nuit Blanche, the Toronto International Film Festival and the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.

Thank You!

We have always dreamed of being parents and cannot wait to start our family through adoption. Thank you for learning our story - we look forward to getting to know you!
