Green Energy UK Direct is a private limited company which was formed by its directors in 2009. The founder directors Steve James and Arthur Bell joined together from very different backgrounds which have benefited the company and allowed it to grow to what it is today. Green Energy UK Direct has an established reputation, working with land owners, the general public, local council officials and parish council members to ensure developments are of the highest quality possible.
Structure of the Company
Green Energy UK Direct is one of the UK’s largest solar developers working alongside some of the world’s biggest panel manufacturers and investment companies. The company prides itself on its personal approach with each of our clients and our comprehensive approach to public consultation. Our office is located in Poynton, South of Manchester with our secondary office which is located in London. The nature of solar PV means the majority of our projects are located in the South of the country. Green Energy UK Direct have company representatives across the South of the UK and this is something which is rapidly increasing. Building a substantial workforce, all working alongside each other; with a shared vision for the future.
“Green Energy UK Direct provided a very professional service during the development of my solar farm. We were given an individual representative who acted as a friendly and helpful point of contact throughout the whole development. I would highly recommend Green Energy UK Direct to any farmer considering building a solar park on their land”. ‘Oliver Sawle; Gover Park’
Steve is one of the key members of the solar power movement in the North West. Starting his own rooftop company in 2009, the business very quickly increased as Steve utilised his sales and management history to win ever larger contracts. At present he oversees the sales and purchasing of all major PV projects. Steve sets the strategy plan to reach internal company targets while also representing the business at conferences domestically and internationally. He deals directly with investment funds across Europe on your behalf, to secure the best possible returns for your project.
ARTHUR BELL Director Partnering with Steve, Arthur is another member of the North West solar community, and a leader in increasing the accessibility and awareness of solar programmes. Arthur presently looks after our in-house planning and environmental team. Dealing directly with the planners and local councils for your projects he ensures your application is of the highest standard and fit for approval. Drawing on his many years of experience of technical drawing, and management, he is paramount to the success of the company. As the company expanded and more work was taken in house, he closely liaises with the legal team for the protection of partners, clients and customers.
Project Management at Green Energy UK Direct CONNECTING YOUR BUSINESS TO THE TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES YOU NEED
ROD CROSBY Rod joined the team bringing his extensive experience in customer service and sales. Primarily focusing on both green and brown field or ex-landfill sites. He is committed to reducing the CO2 output of cities. Rod will deal directly with the DNO on your behalf and will also be the person making a site visit – whilst visiting sites Rod will establish things such as cap depths, current possible connections (gas turbines), topography and any other potential issues.
THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS All of our projects are sourced in house from our marketing team, starting with the identification of areas within the U.K that will have a good opportunity to connect within a network area and where the irradiation levels are good. Once the land owner has expressed an interest; we will identify the land and obtain a 12 month exclusivity. The next 2 steps are to firstly – obtain a budget DNO quote for connection availability and also that this is cost effective for a project. If feasible we request a formal offer of connection (usually 3 months to attain this).
MIKE WHETTER Mike will be the first person you speak to. He will make the initial enquiry and work with you to ensure all the relevant information is available before the project is handed over to Neil or Rod for onward development.
Secondly, we will then start with some intermediate planning and environmental checks – these include such things as: Flood Risk Checks, Topography, Habitat Surveys, SSSI, Archaeological and Heritage Checks, Land and Marine, Designations and Landscape (these are just a very small sample of what checks are undertaken) – culminating in our submitting of a screening request from the local council. This will come back as EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) required or not required, which will then lead to the planning team speaking with the local council planners.
TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING PROVIDES A TOTAL END TO END SOLUTION. We will then arrange a site visit with the landowner, where we can complete a physical survey of the land, taking photographs of the views and surrounding area, as well as of the actual land. We also incorporate this visit as a good time to chat with the land owner about our next steps and to also introduce our Heads of Terms, so that we can clearly agree our next steps and how this project will work for them, from both a land use area and also a financial perspective.
We always stay in close contact with the land owners and their land agent / Solicitor regarding agreed terms on firstly the HOT’s (Heads of Term) and then secondly the L e a s e / O p t i o n agreement.
Lisa is your port of call for all concerns regarding projects. Utilizing the skills she has acquired from management and development positions across Europe, Lisa is here to ensure projects are completed on time and to budget. Once the sales and planning teams have established land as suitable for a solar PV project then Lisa will start to pull together all of the documentation needed to present to investors. She is also the person to liase regularly with for Heads of Terms (HOTs), Exclusivity Agreements, Leases and other technical information.
NEIL BANKS Neil manages farm projects from conception through to DNO. He will undertake an initial assessment of your land and liaise with your local DNO (District Network Operator) to ensure that an electrical connection is both available and also at a workable price. Neil is responsible for all DNO directives within the company. Whilst waiting for the DNO to undertake their studies Neil will pass on your site details to the planning team who will undertake their initial viability tests to also confirm that we have a workable opportunity. Once confirmed that the site has potential then you are likely to have a visit from Neil and one of the planning team to undertake a site survey.
