Thestudents’interestinreceivingaquality,morallybasededucationcanbeservedifstudents,parents,andschool officialsworktogether.Normally,differencesbetweentheseindividualscanberesolved.Insomeinstances, however,theschoolmayfinditnecessary,initsdiscretion,torequireparents/guardianstowithdrawtheirchild.

Itshallbeanexpressedconditionofenrollmentthatthestudentbehavesinamanner,bothonandoff-campusthat isconsistentwiththeChristianprinciplesoftheschoolasdeterminedbytheschoolinitsdiscretion.These principlesincludebutarenotlimitedto,anypolicies,principles,orproceduressetforthinanystudent/parent handbookoftheschool.Shouldarevisionofapolicyorprocedurebenecessaryduringtheschoolyear,itwillbe addressedinthemonthlyParentNewsletter.

Itshallbeanexpressedconditionofenrollmentthattheparents/guardiansofastudentshallalsoconform themselvestostandardsconsistentwiththeChristianprinciplesoftheschool,asdeterminedbytheschoolinits discretion Theseprinciplesincludebutarenotlimitedto,anypolicies,principles,orproceduressetforthinany student/parenthandbookoftheschool

TheseChristianprinciplesfurtherincludebutarenotlimitedto,thefollowing:

● Parents/Guardiansareexpectedtoworkcourteouslyandcooperativelywiththeschooltoassistthestudent inmeetingtheacademic,moral,andbehavioralexpectationsoftheschool.

● Studentsandparents/guardiansmayrespectfullyexpresstheirconcernsabouttheschooloperationandits personnel However,theymaynotdosoinamannerthatisdiscourteous,scandalous,rumordriven, disruptive,threatening,hostile,ordivisive.

● Theseexpectationsforstudentsandparents/guardiansincludebutarenotlimitedtoallschool-sponsored programsandevents(eg,extendedcare,athletics,fieldtrips,etc)

Theschoolreservestherighttodetermine,atitsdiscretion,whichactionsfallshortofmeetingtheChristian principlesoftheschool Failuretofollowtheseprincipleswillnormallyresultinaverbalorwrittenwarningtothe studentand/orparent/guardianandnormallywillresultindisciplinaryactionshortofarequirementtowithdraw fromtheschool(e.g.,suspensionofstudentorsuspensionofparent/guardian’sprivilegetocomeoncampus groundsand/orparticipateinparish/schoolactivities,volunteerwork,etc.).

Theschoolreservestherighttodetermine,atitsdiscretion,whenconductisofsuchseverenatureastowarrant immediateactionwithoutawarningand/orwithoutanintermediatestepshortofwithdrawal.

Crisis/ConfrontationPolicy

Thesafetyandwell-beingofeverystudent,theschoolstaff,andtheeducationalanddisciplinaryenvironmentof ourCatholicSchoolsareofparamountimportance.Catholicschoolauthorities,therefore,mustoftenmake judgmentsthatareintendedtodirectlyandquicklyaddresspotentialproblemsanddangerstheyperceivebased uponinformationreceivedorobtainedand/orbehaviorobservedwithrespecttoaparticularstudentorgroupof students.

Therefore,theprovisionsofthissectionmaybeinvokedbyschoolauthoritieswithoutpriornoticetothestudentor thestudent’sparentsinanyinstancewhereschoolauthoritiespossessinformationwhichleadsthemtoconclude thatareasonablepossibilityexiststhatanyofthefollowingeventseitheroccurred,isunderway,ormayoccur absentintervention:

1. Astudenthasengagedinorhasthreatenedtoengageinanyillegalconduct,whetherornotonschool property;

2. Astudenthasengagedinorthreatened,attemptedormadeplanstoengageinanyintentionalconductthat

did,may,orwouldrepresentariskofphysicalharmtoanypersonorpersons,whetherornotonschool property;

3. Astudenthasvoluntarilyparticipatedinorassistedinanyconductwhich,althoughnotillegal,encourages, invitesorentices,bywordorexample,anyotherpersontoengageinconductviolativeofthelawor violativeoftheCodeofChristianConduct;

4. Astudentknowinglypossessed,used,transmittedorhasbeenundertheinfluenceofanycontrolled substance,alcoholicbeverageorintoxicantofanykindonschoolpropertyoratanyschoolfunction;

5 Astudentknowinglypossesses,handles,concealsortransmitsanyobjectthatcouldbeusedasaweapon orinstrumentofdestructiononschoolpropertyoratanyschoolfunction;

6 Astudentknowsbutfailstodisclosetoschoolauthorities,thatanotherstudenteither:

a. hasthreatenedormadeplanstoengageinconductthatwouldintentionallypresentariskof physicalharmtoanypersonorpersons;or

b haspossessed,handled,concealedortransmittedanyobjectthatcouldbeusedasaninstrumentof destructiononschoolpropertyoratanyschoolfunction;or

c hasusedsocialmediatothreatenorharmothers

Uponthereceiptofsuchinformation,schoolauthorities,inadditiontoallotherremediesavailable,shallhavethe authoritytoconfrontthestudentand/orthestudent’sparentsorguardiansand/orimpose,asaconditionofsuch student’scontinuedenrollment,anyreasonablerequirementsand/orrestrictionsuponsuchstudentandhisorher parentsorguardianswhich,intheopinionsofschoolauthoritiesarenecessarytoprotectthegeneralstudentbody, theschoolitself,theeducationalmissionoftheschooland/ormembersofthegeneralpublic.Thefailureofa studentorparenttocomplywithsuchrequirements,conditionsand/orrestrictionsshallbegroundsforthe immediateexpulsionofthestudent.

StudentAdmissionPolicy

MaterDeiHighSchoolrealizesthatastudentbodywithvaryingbackgrounds(racial,ethnic,socio-economic,and geographic)providesafulleducationalexperienceforallstudents.Thus,MaterDeiHighSchooladmitsstudents ofanycolor,racialorethnicorigin,orfaithtoallrights,privileges,programs,andactivitiesgenerallymade availabletostudentsattheschool Althoughwetrytoservetheneedsofalltypesoflearners,wemaynothavethe necessaryresourcestoaccommodatecertainlearningdisabilitiesanddifficulties Iftheschoolbecomesawareof additionalinformationafterthestudenthasbeenadmittedthatimpactstheschool'sabilitytoservicethestudent, theschoolreservestherighttochangeitsadmissionsdecision

Allnewstudents(incomingandtransfer)areconsideredprobationarystudentsforthefirstsemesterofattendance Duringthistime,grades,attendance,anddisciplinearemonitored Atthesemester’send,thestudent’sstatusis reevaluatedandtheprobationarystatusmayberemoved,reinstated,orfurtheradmissionmayberevoked

TuitionAndWithdrawal/RefundPolicy

Tuitionarrangementsforthe2022-2023schoolyearareduebyJuly15,2022 Ifarrangementsarenotmadebythat date,textbooksandschedulesmaybehelduntilpaymenthasbeenmade

Intheeventastudentvoluntarilywithdrawsduringtheschoolyear,aparent/guardianmayapplyforapartial refundoftuition Toapplyforarefund,aparent/guardianmustcompleteaStudentWithdrawalFormavailablein

theMainOffice.TherewillbenorefundifastudentisforcedtowithdraworisexpelledfromMaterDeiHigh School.

Theschool’sPresidentisresponsibleforauthorizingallStudentWithdrawalrefundrequests.Parents/Guardians whowishtoappealthePresident’sdecisionmustsubmittheirappealinwritingtotheChairmanoftheMaterDei BoardofTrusteeswithin30daysofbeinginformedofthePresident’sdecision

Tuitionrefundsarecalculatedusingaprorateddaysenrolledbasedonthewithdrawaldate SchoolChoice Voucher&SGOcreditsarealsocalculatedonprorateddaysifwithdrawalisaftertheSchoolChoiceVoucher minimumenrollmentdate(usuallyOctober) Anyotherfinancialassistanceislostifastudentisexpelledor withdrawals

DelinquentTuitionandFees

Studentrecords,schedules,reportcards,andgraduationcapsandgownswillnotbereleasedforanystudentsthat havedelinquenttuitionandfees Thisincludeslunchbalances Allquestionsshouldbedirectedtothebusiness managerandtheOIAOffice.

Career/TechnologyFee(SICTC)

TheamountoftuitionandfeeswillbedeterminedannuallybytheEvansvilleCatholicHighSchoolCoordinating Council. Keeping current withthetuitionpaymentisrequired.Highschoolstudentsenrolledinthepublicschool CareerandTechnology(SICTC)programwillreceivethefollowingtuitionreduction:

10%ifenrolledina1-hourSICTC

20%ifenrolledina2-hourSICTC

30%ifenrolledina3-hourSICTC

StudentsmusthavetheapprovalofthePresidentforthistuitionreduction.Thistuitionreductionappliestoall students activeCatholic,non-activeparishioner,ornon-Catholicstudent.

ParticipationintheSICTCprogramissecondarytotheschedules,activities,andrequirementsofMaterDeiHigh School.Whenschedulesconflict,MaterDeiasthe‘homeschool’takesprecedence.Thisincludesallprayer servicesandclassliturgies.

AllSICTCstudentsmustridetheEVSCbustoandfromSICTCunlessapprovalisgivenbytheMaterDei Administration

ExchangeStudents

MaterDeiHighSchoolisproudofthemanyexchangestudentsthatwehavehostedandencouragesthe continuationoftheseprograms Tobetterfacilitatethisexperience,thefollowingguidelineshavebeen implemented:

● FamilieshostinganexchangestudentthatenrollsatMaterDeiforanentireschoolyearwillreceivea $1000.00rebatefortuition.

● ExchangestudentsmustbeparticipatingthroughanaccreditedprogramandmustbeenrolledatMDby August1

● Enrollmentmaybeforeitheroneortwosemesters.

● Fulltuitionisrequiredunlessstayingwithafamilyfromanassessedparish

● Theexchangestudentmaynottakea“worldlanguage”courseintheirnativetongue

● Noonewhohasalreadygraduatedfromhighschoolmayenrollasanexchangestudent.

● Exchangestudentsmaynotbeclassifiedhigherthantheeleventh-gradelevel.

StudentGovernment

Inordertopreparestudentsfortheresponsibilitiesofself-government,MaterDeihasaStudentCivicGovernment, modeledaftertheadministrativesetupoftheCityofEvansville,withMayor,Clerk,CityJudge,CouncilPersons, andBoardsandCommissionspropertothegoodgovernmentofthecity.

TheschoolsupportslawsandregulationspassedbytheStudentCouncilaswellaspromotingstrictenforcement. TheStudentCouncilprocessesallviolations.

Theelectionprocessforstudentofficialsisaccomplishedthroughnominationandballot.Nominationsand electionsareconductedinthespringoftheyear;InaugurationCeremoniesareobservedinthefallonadate approvedbythePrincipal.Eachhomeroomisrepresentedbyonecouncilperson.Eachclassisrepresentedbythe ClassPresident.

Thereare,inaddition,fourcouncilpersonsatlargechosenfromthesophomore(1),junior(1),andsenior (2) classes AppointmentsofBoardsandCommissionsaremadebytheMayor,withtheapprovalofthe CouncilandPrincipal

Eachclasshasfourstudentofficerschosenbytheirclassmatesthroughnominationandelectionaftertheelection oftheMayorandotherstudentgovernmentofficials Officersforthesenior,junior,andsophomoreclassesare choseninMayforthenextschoolyear

MaterDeiHighSchoolawardstwodiplomastoourgraduates.TheCore40Diplomaisdesignedforthoseseeking post-secondaryeducationaftergraduation.TheAcademicHonor’sDiplomaisanextensionofCore40andisthe highestachievementdiploma.Individualcircumstancesmaydictateadifferentpathofcompletion,suchasthe GeneralDiploma.Linkfordiplomasummary

GraduationCeremony

Toparticipateinthegraduationceremony,astudentmustbewithintwocreditsoftherequiredcreditsneeded.A studentmustalsonothaveanyunresolveddisciplinaryorfinancialissues.

EarlyGraduationRequirementPolicy

MaterDeiHighSchoolisaccreditedbytheIndianaDepartmentofEducation.Asaresult,MaterDeifollowsthe state'sacademicrequirementsfordiplomasandalsorequiresstudentstocompletetheologycourses.

● Shouting,running,whistling,orbanginglockersdisturbstheatmosphereofquietthatisindispensableina schoolbuilding.

● Quietconversationispermittedintheclassroomattheteacher’sdiscretionandbetweenclasses;a moderatetoneofvoiceshouldbeusedthroughoutthebuilding.

● Anatmosphereofquietmustbemaintainedinthecorridorsoutsideclassroomswhileclassesarein session.

● Loiteringinthecorridorsdisruptseffectivetrafficpatterns;donotblockthehallwaybutallowpeopleto pass.

● GangAffiliation:Anysuspectedorknowngangaffiliation,whichmayormaynotaffecttheschool climate,isforbiddenatMaterDeiHighSchool.Thisincludestheuseofsignals,writtencodes,language, distinctapparel,etc.Gangaffiliationisgroundsforimmediateexpulsion.

● SexualHarassment:SexualHarassmentisakindofdiscriminationdefinedasaviolationofTitleVIIofthe CivilRightsActof1964.Itisbehaviors(jokes,gestures)thatareUNINVITED,UNWELCOMED, UNWANTED,and/orUNPLEASANT.Thismaybearepeatedoffenseoritmaybeveryoffensiveona one-timebasisandwillnotbetolerated.Harassmentisforbiddenandsuspension/exclusionmaybe assigneduntiltheinvestigationiscomplete.

Bullying,asdefinedbytheCSO,isanyovertactsbyastudentoragroupofstudentsdirectedagainstanotherstudent withtheintenttoridicule,humiliate,orintimidatetheotherstudentwhileonoroffschoolgroundswhereactsare repeatedagainstthesamestudentovertime.Bullyingincludesphysicalintimidationorassault,extortion,oralor writtenthreats,digitalorelectronicexpressions/threats,teasing,putdowns,name-calling,threateninglooks,gesturesor actions,cruelrumors,falseaccusations,andsocialisolation.

Anypersonwhohasacomplaintofbullyingmustbringthatcomplainttotheattentionoftheschoolprincipal.Allsuch complaintswillbeproperlyinvestigated. Everyeffortwillbemadetomaintaintheprivacyofthechargingpersonand thepersonorpersonscomplainedabout.Schoolofficialswillkeepdocumentationofallbullyinginvestigationsand allegationsandtakeappropriateandcorrectiveactionincludingdisciplinaryactionmeasuresifjustifiedtoremedy violations.AcopyofanIncidentFormmustbesenttothesuperintendentassoonaspossible.”

TheUniformDressCodeforMaterDeiHighSchoolisbasedonourbeliefthatstudentsshouldpresentanimage thatreflectsasenseofprideinthemselves,theirfamilies,andtheirschool.Inasocietythatplacesmuchemphasis onfashion,whereconsumerismattemptstodefinesocialpositionandself-worthbytheprice,label,orlogowhich appearsonclothing,ourdresscodestandsasareminderthatclothingcanbesimpleanduniform.

TherealworthoftheindividualisinwhatheorsheaccomplisheswiththegiftsandtalentsGodhasgiven.Our studentswillentercareersandprofessionswherewhattheywearortheirgeneralappearancewillnotbetheir choice.Wefeelthatwehaveanobligationtohelpthemunderstandandacceptthoseexpectationsaspartofbeing anadult.

Onaregularbasis,MaterDeiwillrandomlyselectstudentstosubmittodrugtesting.Aconditionofenrollment includesconsentingtotheschool'srandomdrugtestingprogram.Refusalbyanystudenttosubmittoarandom drugtestwhendirectedwillbeconsideredanadmissionofguiltandtheappropriateconsequencesforviolatingthe school'sdrug,alcohol,andtobaccopolicywillapply,i.e.,firstoffense,secondoffense,orthirdoffense.

TheDioceseofEvansvillebelievesasafeandhealthyenvironmentshouldbeprovidedinwhichallchildrencan learn,develop,andparticipateininstructionalprogramsthatpromotehighlevelsofacademicachievement.The purposeofthisstatementistoensurethatallstudentsandstaffaresafeinschoolandthatstudentswhomayhave behaviorcrisesarefreefrominappropriateuseofseclusionorrestraint.

Theschooldayofficiallybeginsat7:25AM(withawarningbellat7:20AM)withamorningprayerandthe PledgeofAllegiancetotheflag Studentsshouldnotreporttoschoolbefore6:30AM OnlyDoors1and3only willbeunlockedat6:30AMforstudententry.Theschooldayendsat2:05PM.Studentsshouldleavethebuilding by3:30PM,withtheexceptionofstudentsparticipatinginsupervisedandschool-sponsoredclubs,teams,or events.

Cafeteria

Forthesafetyandwelfareofourstudents,MaterDeiisaclosedcampus.Studentsmaynotleavefor"outtolunch." Reasonablypriced,healthylunchesareservedinthecafeteria,butstudentsmaybringtheirfoodfromhome.Soft drinksmaynotbebroughtfromhome.Openpackagesoffoodoropenbeveragesshouldnotbetakenfromthe cafeteriaatanytimeduringtheday.Thevendingmachinesareoff-limitsforstudentsduringtheschoolday. Studentsmaynotorderlunchtobedeliveredtotheschool.Inaddition,studentsreturningtoschoolfromoutside appointments may notbringfoodintothecafeteria.Studentsaretoremaininthecafeteriaduringassignedlunch periods.Studentsmaybeexcusedbyastaffmemberonly.

ItisthebeliefoftheEvansvilleHighSchoolAthleticCouncilandMaterDeiHighSchool,thatallstudents participatinginanyschoolfunctionhavecertainobligationspertainingtotheirconductbothinandoutoftheir particularseason.Everystudentisexpectedtobehaveinamannerthatbringscredittohis/herschool,squad,and self.Whenastudent’sconductinoroutofschoolreflectsdiscreditupontheschooland/orcreatesadisruptive influenceonthediscipline,goodorder,moraloreducationalenvironmentintheschool,thestudentmaybe declaredineligibleforfurtherparticipation

TheIndianaHighSchoolAthleticAssociation’srulesmustbefollowedinallcasesofeligibility,transfer,physical examinations,insurancecoverage,startingdates,useofschoolequipment,etc

SchoolAttendanceRequirement:Studentsareexpectedtoattendallclasses Studentsabsentfromclasseswill notbeallowedtoparticipateinapracticeorcontestonthedayoftheabsence Unlessexcusedbythe Administration,studentsmustbepresentfortheentireschooldaytoparticipateinthatday’sevents. ConductRules:AllstudentswhochoosetoparticipateforEvansvilleHighSchoolAthleticCouncilmember schoolsshallabidebytheruleslistedbelow.Theseareconsideredtobeminimumstandards.Individualcoaches and/orsponsorsmaysetstandardsabovetheseminimumsbynotifyinginwritingeachstudentparticipatingandthe Principal.Allaccusationsofruleviolationswillbebroughttotheattentionoftheathleticdirectorandhead coach/sponsor.Itistheirresponsibilitytoinvestigateallchargestodeterminedisciplinaryactiontobetakenif necessary.

1. Atnotimeisastudentallowedtobeundertheinfluenceoforbeinpossessionofanalcoholicbeverage, tobaccoproducts,orillegaldrugsnotprescribedbyaphysicianlicensedbytheStateofIndiana,forhisor heruse.TheCodeofConductisineffectfor365daysandbeginswiththefirstdayofthefirstfallsports seasonofthefreshmanyear.

2. “Possession”isdefinedashavinganalcoholicbeverage,tobaccoproducts,orillegaldrugsonyourperson

orhavinganalcoholicbeverage,tobaccoproducts,orillegaldruginavehicleinwhichthestudentis drivingorisapassenger,orbeingconvictedinacourtoflawofillegalpossessionofalcohol,tobacco,or drugs.Student-athletesareresponsibleforthecontentsoftheirlockerorvehicleinwhichtheyaredriving.

3. Ifastudentisplacedonhousearrest,he/shewillbesuspendedduringthelengthofthesentence.

4 TheEvansvilleHighSchoolAthleticCouncil,composedofrepresentativesfrommemberschools,believes thatathletesrepresentingtheirschoolshavecertainobligationspertainingtotheirconductbothinandout oftheirparticularseason Everystudent-athleteisexpectedtobehaveinamannerthatbringscreditto his/herschoolandsquad Whenanathlete’sconductinoroutofschool(1)reflectsdiscredituponthe schoolor(2)createsadisruptiveinfluenceonthediscipline,goodorder,moraloreducationalenvironment intheschool,thestudentmaybedeclaredineligibleforfurtherathleticparticipationfortheremainderof his/herhighschoolcareer

Thefollowingpenaltieswillbeenforcedforaviolationoftheserules:

FirstOffense–Thestudent-athleteshallbesuspendedforaminimumof20%ofthescheduledeventsforthat sport/programforthatschoolyear.Scrimmagesandjamboreesarenotconsideredacontest.Canceledcontests willnotcounttowardthesuspension.Beforereinstatementtothesport/program,thestudentmustcompletea school-approvedsubstanceabuseprogramatthestudent’sexpense.

Ifthesuspensionfallsnearenoughtotheendofaseasonthatthefullpenaltyof20%ofthecontestscannotbe assessed,thepenaltyshallcarryovertothenextsportsseason/programinwhichthestudentparticipates.Ifthe studentisnotparticipatingatthetimeoftheviolation,thestudentshallberemovedfrom20%ofthecontestsofthe firstsportseason/programinwhichthestudentwouldnormallyparticipate.Attemptstocircumventthisruleby goingoutforanothersport/programinwhichthestudentdoesnotnormallyparticipatewillnotbetolerated.

SecondOffense–thestudent-athletewillbesuspendedfromteamorteamsfor365consecutivedaysfromthedate ofsuspension.

ThirdOffense–thestudent-athletewillbedeniedparticipationfortheremainderofhis/herhighschoolcareer.

SchoolActivities-Athletic,Extracurricular,andPerformances

Schoolandrecreationalprogramsareencouragedtofosterschoolandclassspirit

Deviationsfromthisrulemustbepre-arrangedbetweenthestudentandthePrincipalwhowillthennotifythe chaperonesand/ormoderator.ASignIn-Outsheetwillbeusedatschoolsocialactivities.

StudentIDswillbeissuedearlyintheschoolyearandshouldbecarriedbythestudentatalltimesintheir originalformorasaphotoonacellphone.

RegulationsForDances/Events

Allschoolrulesandregulationsapplyatdances.

● Anypersonwhosewearingapparelwouldproveembarrassingtootherstudents,sponsors,orchaperones willnotbeadmitted.Properdresslengthisrequiredforadmission.

● Baremidriffs,barebacks,snug-fittingclothing,andhalter-topsarenotpermitted.
