Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco® - Life Beyond Tourism®
nerships linking Culture, Travel and Dialogue, and respecting the diversity of cultures and contributing towards peace; We consider that the social-cultural context and the specific characteristics of each site must prompt and guide the sustainable visitor management and related travel requirements, and that continuous research into market trends is necessary in order to offer a reliable vision of medium to long-term prospects for the relevant authorities in planning ahead and avoiding the negative impacts of visitor numbers beyond the carrying capacity of individual sites; We take note that the UNESCO 1972, 2003 and 2005 Conventions provide an important universal framework and synergy that can positively affect the life of communities involved, under condition that the challenges faced by the increasing number of visitors to cultural and natural heritage sites are properly met within the carrying capacity of each; We recognise the importance of the proposed "Centres of Global Education and Training for Intercultural Dialogue" in producing a new competitive cultural and commercial travel offer, with a new ethical framework for the international community in a context of peaceful coexistence and sustainable development of humanity. Eventual Learning Communities in such Centres need to comprise people, institutions, businesses and all those who consider joining this initiative in order to foster intercultural dialogue, and being involved in its development. These will include communities of residents, travellers, local service providers, cultural institutions, on-line and off-line intermediaries, local authorities, market trend research centres, and training institutions. We commend the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco® and Life Beyond Tourism® for having defined and made operative the Life Beyond Tourism® Model for Intercultural Dialogue, initiated in 1991; and note the potential of this Model to increase the awareness of the territory and to produce funds for the local community as recognised by the ICOMOS General Assembly November 2014 in the Resolution 2014/42. We the participants of the 18th General Assembly of Experts of the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco® – Life Beyond Tourism®, Encourage the international community: •
to consider Travel for Dialogue at worldwide level as a new cultural and commercial offer, with a new ethical framework, for culturally and environmentally sustainable development of the international community in the context of peaceful coexistence;
to take note that the Life Beyond Tourism Philosophy with its Life Beyond Tourism Model has been tested, contributing to Intercultural Dialogue and local heritage;
to consider this philosophy as a possible approach to putting into practice and improving the dissemination at worldwide level the recognition of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
We strongly believe that this encouragement can be considered a further contribution to the promotion of the proclamation of the International Decade 2013-2022 for the Rapprochement of Cultures, launched by Irina Bokova Director General of UNESCO, on 23 August 2013. We note furthermore that, in the short term, the proposed initiative can be a contribution to the United Nations 2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, and, in the long term, a contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, “Transforming our World”, and the promotion of intercultural dialogue as one of the millennium goals. We invite the International Community to consider at its disposal the concluded and tested research of the Foundation on the philosophy “Life, Beyond Tourism”. We recognize the willingness of the Fondazione to assist in this process and share its experience.
