Jadewynn Garden It’s been a hot, wet, and windy summer this year, and the Jadewynn community gardeners have risen to the challenge of the elements. Some crops completely failed whilst others have flourished in the bazaar weather conditions. The corn crops were a write-off, but the taro and Chinese hairy melons were a great success and are still going strong. Last Winter, due to the rain, the garden suffered from a major land slip that fell into our stream. This slip threatened some of our lower garden terrace plots. Although an attempt was made by contractors to shore it up, it has recently suffered another land slip coming even closer to the garden! Unfortunately, this has put most of our little “woodland spinney” (bush walk) out of bounds as its becoming too dangerous to walk around the paths that are now becoming the edge of the stream bank. Through all of the ups and downs of community gardening, the garden volunteers still remain steadfast and strongly committed. Jadewynn Drive Community Garden has 99% of its plots attended on a regular basis and the garden has retained its

100% volunteer workforce for the 3rd year running. Our garden probably is one of the best kept gardening secrets in West Auckland, for those of you thinking “where’s Jadewynn Drive Community Garden?”. You can’t see the garden from the road, so you have to look really carefully for it when you drive slowly around Jadewynn Drive. It’s just up from the park. Please do come and visit us, you can find our gardeners tending to their plots most of the week, and they would be more than happy to stop, sit on our garden benches and chat, or show you around. See you soon.
