Visual Arts / Art & Graphic Design Option Visual Arts – Art and Graphic Design Option The Visual Arts program provides students with the basic technical and intellectual foundation Course Credits necessary to pursue a career as either a fine artist Course Title or graphic designer. Semester 1 The Department of Visual Arts, guided by a faculty Art History of the Western World ARTG 100+ 3 of experienced professional artists, offers two I ARTG 107 3 Drawing options: Art and Graphic Design and Fine Arts. In each Option students are expected to develop Color and Design I ARTG 113 3 an individual aesthetic within their discipline. The ARTG 281 3 Visual Arts program is dedicated to encouraging Computer Aided Graphic Design and nurturing the pursuit of independent interests English Composition I ENGL 101+* 3 and personal vision while preparing students for careers in the visual arts field. Semester 2 Graduates of the Visual Arts program will demonstrate competency in: • Basic technical skills in the visual formats of drawing, color, and design (Fine Arts and Graphic Design majors) • Basic technical skills in computer generated formats (Graphic Design majors)

The core of the curriculum is a Choose from # list 3 series of foundation courses. Tracks in Illustration Art Elective and Graphic Design follow in the second year. Choose from # list 3 Art Elective Electives allow students to incorporate additional media into their curriculum with courses from the Fine Arts Option.

1. A minimum of 60 credits and 20 courses is required for completion of this AAS degree. 2. The same course may not be used as two different course requirements. 3. The mathematics competency for graduation may be fulfilled by passing Contemporary Mathematics (MATH 115) or by passing the computerized placement test with a score of 72 or higher.

This is also the case if a student placed into an equivalent to ENGL 102 at another school and was not required to take the ENGL 101 equivalent. Currently there are only three options for replacement: Technical Writing (ENGL 107); Creative Writing (ENGL 119); or Newspaper Journalism (JOUR 120). Developmental courses cannot be used for graduation requirements.
