Welcome

F R OM TH E H E A D M I S T RESS

Marymount London has been dedicated to international education long before it became an essential quality of 21st century learning. Founded in 1955 as part of the RSHM world-wide Network of Schools, we proudly stand as the first all-girls’ school in the United Kingdom to adopt the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB MYP and Diploma), bringing together day and boarding students ages 11-18 in a personal, dynamic, intellectually challenging, and supportive environment where multiple perspectives are respected and celebrated. All students are prepared for a world that needs their global awareness, curiosity, compassion, and willingness to use their gifts in service to others. Highly competitive exam results are only one indicator of the success of our students and faculty. Girls here build their confidence, their spirituality, their leadership skills, and their sense of self. Whether engaged in our bespoke curriculum, innovating in our FabLab, acting on the stage, playing in the field, reflecting on retreat, or otherwise participating in a myriad of extracurricular activities or trips, the whole person is at the core of what we do. Joy in doing, learning, creating, and being permeate our seven acre campus, located on the Coombe Estate, only twelve miles from central London. I invite you to come to see us in action. You and your daughter are welcome to visit our campus, meet with our students, and engage with our faculty to learn more about us. I look forward to welcoming you! Warmly,

Mrs. Margaret Frazier Headmistress

Our teaching and learning are particularly suited to the creative, coaborative, interdisciplinary, and exploratory ways that girls learn best.

The Mile Years Program

Offered in Grades 6 to 10, the student-centered MYP encourages Marymount girls to draw connections between eight subject groups and the world in which they live. They are challenged and supported in an intentional, integrated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) approach. With a strong emphasis on educating students in a global context, language acquisition is an essential component. Here, students learn how to learn for deeper understanding in a creative, collaborate, interdisciplinary framework which fosters critical thinking, resilience, and independence.

The IB Diploma FOR 40 YEARS, MARYMOUNT HAS BEEN PROUDLY IB

The IB Diploma Program (Grades 11 and 12) is recognized and respected globally by the world’s leading universities. Marymount Diploma candidates study one course from each of six subject groups, three at Standard Level and three at Higher Level (approximately equivalent to Advanced Placement). These must include two languages, one subject relating to social studies, one laboratory science, one mathematics, and a sixth subject, which may be music, theatre arts, visual arts, or another in the first four categories mentioned. In addition, Diploma candidates must follow a critical-thinking course entitled Theory of Knowledge, submit an extended essay (normally related to one of the examination subjects) and participate in the Creativity, Action and Service programme. 44% of our class of 2018 students achieved a Bilingual Diploma. Students and teachers collaborate closely in preparation for May IB exams through internal assessments, class presentations, projects, and extensive independent research.

High Academic Achievement AVERAGE SCORE: 36 POINTS

Our average score has been maintained consistently for the last five years. Globally, this score is achieved by the top 15% of all students taking the IB Diploma exam. The world average is 29.9 points. 40+ POINTS

A very impressive 27% of our students scored 40 points and above (which is higher than A*A*A*A* at A-levels) and is typically only achieved by 5% of students worldwide. Many local students who joined Marymount for at least 4 years of the School’s full 7-year IB did particularly well by scoring 40 points and above. They clearly benefitted from the pre-diploma preparation (IB MYP) offered at Marymount which is so vital for success at Diploma level. BILINGUAL IB DIPLOMA

A Bilingual Diploma was awarded to 44% of our 2018 graduates who each took two literature courses in one of 7 different languages as well as English. Marymount offers its students the best possible preparation for top tier global careers, as graduates are multilingual, culturally fluent and instinctively internationally-minded. Members of the Class of 2018 came from 29 different countries and benefitted from a truly international environment which will prepare them for life in a global setting.
