OLD MAIN PUB + LOUNGE
SIU Staff challenged the Junior Interior students to transform the Old Main Dining Area & Lounge, located in the Student Center, to a fresh new pub + Lounge space for students and Alumni to enjoy. This project involved site visits, client meetings, and working with IPHEC Vendors to gain experience collaborating with clients and designing with real constraints. .
WREN: FLAGSHIP STORE
The SIU fashion merchandise students challenged Junior interior design students to design a flagship store for their developed brand, WREN. This collaborative project required us to work closely with our clients, enhancing our communication and teamwork skills. The flagship store's design features two levels: the first level focuses on the customer-to-employee interaction, while the second level focuses on the collaborative workplace culture and back-of-house operations.
NEXT: STEELCASE STUDENT COMPETITION
The Senior Fall Class curriculum includes designing for the 2024 Next Steelcase Student Competition. The 2024 competition features an advertisement agency office located in Fulton Market District in lively Chicago, IL. The 16,000 sq ft office had structural constraints as well as an in depth program to follow.

The pub needs to be highly flexible to accommodate the needs for the dining experience, conference presentations, and event holding to create revenue for the school.
The lounge should act as a fresh resource for students and staff with unique amenities to set it apart from other spaces on campus.
Dining Area Seats: 95
The Pub Area features desired seating along the view of the gorgeous campus. Ceiling baffles were added to help with acoustics + create a cozy pub feel. TV’s were strategically placed upon the columns for watch parties, events or for SIU advertisements. Gliding furniture was chosen for easy seating reconfigurations.
This Pergola system aids in transforming the lounge into a unique amenity for staff and students at SIU. The café and pub provides resources for student job opportunities while raising funds for the school. The lounge space offers various flexible furniture at different heights for universal design.
Walls are integrated with power + dry erasable surfaces
Addition of stackable + rolling furniture
Drapery for public to semi-private use
The Pergola freestanding architectural workspaces is a system that is suitable for semi-private activities that will fulfill the diverse needs this lounge demands. Activities such as studying between classes, SIU game watch parties, or act as a meeting space for students and colleagues to collaborate.

To maximize space, the areas in-between the structural columns were repurposed as seating zones

The design concept for WREN’s flagship store revolves around consistency and ensuring that the brand’s focus of quiet luxury is reflected in the interior design to create an immersive experience for the users. WREN is meant to be both unique and timeless in every sense while remaining sustainable. The idea of taking a slower, more simplistic approach that whispers sophistication has been done through precise, subtle, and refined characteristics in the interiors. A neutral color palette is used to enhance the merchandise while focusing on the use of textu providing a tactile experience.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train lines known by Chicagoans as the “L” is a vital resource to the city.
Chicago is a melting pot yet a segregated city geographically. The L brings Chicagoans physically and metaphorically together and is what leads to the celebratory culture of the historic City.
The Green, Pink, Blue, and Red were chosen as key colors to represent the corresponding L lines that are either a route to get to Fulton Market District of most commonly used L lines.
Using Steelcase products, the users are given height adjustable workstations to tailor to the employee’s needs. The workstations are grouped in their departments with adjacencies to their client teams and managers to work collaboratively. The client displays are located near the workstations as requested and are customizable to switch out as new advertisements are developed. Bold colors balance out neutral finishes to allow for expression without overstimulating employees at work. *The geometric linework shelving is inspired by the CTA map and concept*
