By now, you’re probably asking
What Can I Study?
Mary Baldwin’s academic programs are grouped into four colleges to help organize the student experience. You’ll find most of your common curriculum courses in the College of Arts and Sciences, but don’t be surprised if you dabble in each area before choosing a major to explore in depth. All four colleges also include graduate studies and opportunities to accelerate your path to an advanced degree.

Make connections between your studies and real-world applications through community service, study abroad, and collaborative research. Our intensive, three-week May Term is a popular time to travel with professors to locales like Italy, Mexico, El Salvador, Japan, and Costa Rica.
Prepare for life after Mary Baldwin by building your resumé with internships in your field and campus employment while you continue to gain expertise in your classes. A one-of-a-kind Capstone research project in your junior or senior year will impress future employers.

While students at other colleges were watching their teaching assistants flip through PowerPoint slides describing how a scanning electron microscope works, I was using one.” –CATHERINE ARMBRUSTER, MICROBIOLOGIST
You’re serious about learning.
It’s not a phrase tossed around loosely here. Working through a research project — or more than one — with professors and fellow students is a shared experience among Mary Baldwin undergrads across the board. It also happens to be the skill that most graduates cite as the key to landing a grad school slot or their first job (and the second, and the third — you get the idea). Mary Baldwin University students who know their material backward and forward and can defend their conclusions have been invited to present their work around the country and internationally.

Mary Baldwin is serious about supporting research: enter the Office of Sponsored Programs and Undergraduate Research (SPUR). SPUR helps coordinate, secure permissions, and apply for grants and other external funding to aid faculty-student research projects. In addition to assistance throughout the academic year, the office oversees the Summer Research Fellows Program and MBU’s annual Capstone Festival, where professors nominate the best and brightest to present their research to the campus and community.
