Extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context. The Friends of FA works with leaders, teachers, and students to define and make possible enrichment activities to help our scholars actualize their own power and potential.

HERE ARE A FEW OF THE OPPORTUNITIES MADE POSSIBLE WITH THE SUPPORT OF OUR DONORS:

■ Thanks to generous grants from Janssen Pharmaceuticals,

Investors Bank, and the Roma Bank Community Foundation, every scholar across grades K-8 participated in weekly co-curricular clubs during the school day. Local community partners led clubs, including Amerikick Princeton, Hey Black Dad, Be Drumm Music, and Agape Healing & Yoga Wellness Center. ■ We continued to expose our Intermediate and Middle School scholars to STEM programming through support from Janssen

Pharmaceuticals and Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation. Sessions were facilitated by community partners like Mad Science New

Jersey and Likeable STEM.

■ Arts education is proven to boost student self-confidence, enhance interpersonal skills, improve cognition, and increase standardized test scores. A generous grant from the Arts & Letters

Foundation launched a pilot visual arts program with Village

Arts, Inc. at Foundation Academy Primary School. Thanks to their support, all students in grades K-2 experienced diverse and engaging art lessons as part of our school design. ■ Support from donors helped FA Collegiate UNITY Club bridge the language and culture gap between teachers and parents. UNITY members assisted with calls home to families, helped teachers during parent conferences, interpreted at FA family events, and found ways to celebrate Latino culture. ■ Music is a vital part of FA’s curriculum, with music club in primary school and string study introduced in upper grades. Because of donor support, all FA students learned to play a string instrument of their choosing, from the violin and viola to upright bass and cello. In addition to building musical skills, our scholars learn motivation, responsibility, teamwork and perseverance.
