As the voice for health plans in Michigan, the Association seeks to increase public awareness about plans’ services, aims, efficiency, operations and health care delivery benefits. The Association facilitates communication among members and with the health care industry on issues of common concern, and maintains contact with health care associations in other states and nationally. The Michigan Association of Health Plans is a member of the American Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). AHIP represents more than 1,300 member organizations that provide health care for more than 200 million Americans nationwide.

The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is proud to offer a wide variety of evidence-based disease prevention programs including My Choice...My Health: Diabetes Prevention Program. My Choice...My Health helps those at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The NKFM has had significant success with outcomes from the program including participants losing an average of 5% body weight and getting more than 160 minutes of exercise weekly. Data from participants enrolled in the program as part of their health plan exceed CDC requirements. Based on research funded by the NIH and the CDC, DPP reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%.

MAHP Foundation

2014 Resource and Senior Management Directory

The Michigan Association of Health Plans launched the MAHP Foundation in 1998, to promote education, research, and collaborative initiatives to support health plan goals. The MAHP Foundation sponsors several events each year. They include the MAHP Pinnacle Awards, recognizing the innovative programs of MAHP members, and the annual Best Practices Forum, where Pinnacle Award winners present their award winning programs to colleagues. Since 2009, the Foundation has been offering a pre-conference education session in conjunction with the MAHP Summer Conference. The 2014 program is designed to support health plans in their implementation of the Healthy Michigan Plan with the development of a web-based application. Participants will provide input into the design, features, and functions of the application, which health plans will be able to offer to their Healthy Michigan Planâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s adult enrollees, to support them in meeting their goals. The Foundation has a long history of collaboration with the Michigan Department of Community Health. Currently, the Foundation is in the third year of a project with the MDCH Cancer Genomics Divisions to promote health plan policies that are consistent with national recommendations for genetic counseling and testing. The MAHP Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, making it easy for MAHP members and friends to support the work of the Foundation through direct donations and support of its initiatives.
