Martine Cornelia Franck - Space culture - Angela Rui & Anna Serena Vitale - Hornbook - Holy

HOLYThe word holy is often associated with something religious, and almost unachievable. Something sacred, precious and inalienable. The way I have chosen to interpret the word holy in this book is as something with a pureness, which is sublime beautiful. Something that gives you the feeling that it should be treated with respect and cannot be dishonored. It also fills you with a serene sense of calm. By walking into a space or looking at the work, you get the feeling of having it for yourself and an escape from everyday life. This book is a collection of works by designers, artists, photographers and architects, which I have collected to represent what holy is to me. The main focus is on how the interior, material, colors and the light can change the perspective of a space to be holy. Lighting plays an important part in the chosen works. The way it is enlightened either in a natural- or an artificial way, gives the works a glorification and the feeling of something divine. This brings a calmness and beauty to the works, pictures or spaces. All of the selected works in this collection is taking consideration of the space to be holy without having to be holy in a litteral sense. The way they are represented also makes it holy by using either light, materials or colors. An example of this is the church by Mathieu Lehanneur, where the way both the light and the material is affecting the room, makes the church not only holy in a religious way, but also holy because of it’s extremely pure beauty.
