Japonica 5 Operation Gas The two gas canisters are located in the starboard front deck. One of the canisters is in use and the other is a full spare. Gas canisters should always be isolated when not in use. If there is a smell of gas, turn the gas off and disconnect gas canisters (as shown in leaflet in Skippers Handbook). Open all the windows and doors and notify the boat yard immediately. Do not attempt to start engine, do not smoke or moor near other craft. If you are cruising at the time you first notice the smell, moor up, switch off engine and call the yard

Daily checks Before starting the engine in the morning: 1. Check weed filter to make sure it is not blocked. This is located near the engine. DO NOT ISOLATE WEED FILTERS WHEN CHECKING. 2. Check water in coolant tank. 3. Make sure water is pumping from exhaust pipe.

Engine Make sure the engine stop (black T handle is in before starting engine.) Pull out towards you the Morse Handle in order to obtain neutral position, before starting the engine. Turn the ignition key to the ‘On’ position (clockwise), press button alongside key half way and hold to engage the heater plugs. Hold in that position for 10 – 15 seconds then press button all the way in to engage the starter. Push in Morse Handle to reingage the gears. Forwards for forward motion and back to travel in reverse. To stop pull black T Handle out.
