Rare and iconic artifacts and artwork from the French & Indian War, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Napoleonic Wars and the Mexican War are being offered in the inaugural sale of the nonprofit Mars & Neptune Trust. Headline pieces include the gold-headed presentation walking stick or cane of John Hancock, a newly-discovered portrait of a colonial American artillery officer by artist William Williams, the Jacob Hurd silver-hilted smallsword of John Cleves Symmes and William Henry Harrison, as well as rare Revolutionary War firearms and swords, an unpublished diary chronicling the burning of Washington in 1814 and the battle of New Orleans (1815), trophy cannon from the War of 1812-Civil War and much more. Many of the artifacts are consigned from direct descendants, while others are deaccessions from important museum and institutional collections. An event not to be missed!!
