How To Perform A VIN Lookup On The Internet

If you want to buy a car, you should always do a VIN lookup. This will show you that the car you are buying is actually worth the money you will pay for it. A V.I.N. search will show you the history of the car, including any accidents it has been in. It will also show whether it is registered as being stolen. Last but not least, it tells you the make, model, year and place of manufacture of the vehicle, which will tell you whether the car you want to buy is not a car that has been rebuilt with parts of different stolen vehicles for instance. It is clear that you must check VIN for your own protection. However, you need to know where to find the VIN. VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number and it is an international standard. This means that regardless of where in the world a car was manufactured, you are able to do a VIN check on it. The standard was set in 1981 and any vehicle made after this year will be equipped with such a number. Finding the number you need for your VIN lookup is also very easy. It is printed in two places on most vehicles, although the exact location may vary from time to time. The first place is on the driver's side of the vehicle, on the dashboard just under the window. If your car was manufactured in a country where the steering wheel is on the right side, and it has been rebuilt, it will be on the passenger's side obviously. The second place to find it is on the door frame, again, on the driver's side. Once you have the number, you are ready to perform a V.I.N. search. You can check VIN online through a range of different websites. Many of these websites are free to use, meaning it won't cost you a dime to check on the vehicle. Some will require you to register and may only allow you to do a limited number of checks, so do read the small print. If you want to buy a car and the seller refuses to let you do a VIN check, start looking for a different car. There is no reason to refuse this, since it doesn't cost either party anything. All in all, it is about your own protection and you should be allowed to do this.
