Studio 5: Theater Project Northeastern University Boston, MA
Our site was the last undeveloped lot in Central Square, Cambridge, MA. Within the 75 foot by 125 foot site, our program was to include a restaurant, an entry lobby, intermission areas, indoor and outdoor theaters with control booths, rehearsal spaces, practice spaces, a loading dock, private circulation for performers, some parking and storage. The restaurant is located at ground level on the main street, Massachusetts Avenue, to allow patronage as an independent entity. The main entry is set back from the property line with the intermission lobby overhanging. The main circulation core rises behind the glass box of the intermission lobby, covered in patinaed copper, a material found on roofs and ornamentation in the area. The main stage area designed to be a split stage servicing both the indoor and outdoor theaters. The outdoor theater had a structurally integrated glazing and sunshade system.
