PORTFOLIO

W E L C O M E Hi, I am Mark Para. Over the last 7 years I have had the privilege to work on many amazing projects. I started my career working for a small magazine and retail company but quickly moved to Realto, a children’s product developer. At Realto, working with several other designers remotely vastly strengthened not only my communication skills, but my ability to interpret other people’s visions. Later on, being a part of the SoMe team helped me gain experience working with larger US brands such as Potbelly’s and Superchix, which is where I started to do more social media related work as well. My experiences shaped me and motivated me to create my own business. Being a startup business owner required me to develop new skills such as sourcing supplies and materials for product development and managing other designers in order to bring a new product to market. The ability to work with amazing companies and teams has allowed me to gain knowledge in the industry and create wonderful friendships. I hope to continue to grow in the design field.

BRANDING 4

Carpathia Watch Company is my biggest project and greatest source of satisfaction to date. I am a watch enthusiast and self taught horologist, which lead me to design many watch cases and dials for small companies at the start of my career. After seeing many independent brands find success in the microbrand watch world, I decided to do the same. Carpathia watches were designed with inspiration from older, classic European watches. With a large dial, and sharp edges combined with sleek rounded curves, they are also reflective of an art deco influence. The color combinations I used, on the other hand, are more reflective of modern trends making each piece vastly different from the other despite having the same design. Our brand aimed to target 30-60 year old males. Someone with refined taste, an affinity for high quality artisan items with a story. I think the campaign excellently represented our core audience and that our website as well as all ads carried a clear sense of who we are as a brand.

PRODUCT DESIGN LUXURY RETAIL 12

Before embarking on my own product development journey, I was fortunate to have designed wrist watches for other micro brands. DMC watch company contacted me to take inspiration from the Delorean Motor Car, and to make a watch that had an automotive vibe. Being a car enthusiast myself, this project was a treat. I used the angular, severe lines of the car and incorporated them into the shape of the case. I looked at tail lights, gauges, textures and patterns as well as the typical stainless steel finish of the car, and used it to influence many different variations of watch design. Wagner, another microbrand, was making a watch inspired by aviation. To create this dial, I used images of airplane gauge clusters. from various eras.

PRODUCT DESIGN CHILDREN’S PRODUCTS 16

On of my first and most fun jobs was working with Realto Products. Their mission was to produce whimsical and customizable sporting equipment for children. With Realto I developed the BU Always customizable water bottles for which I designed all custom stickers and retail systems. Below you will also find a line of Raskullz fantasy biking helmets and matching lunchboxes . These products gained vast popularity with children and are currently sold in Walmart stores as well as online.

CHARACTER DESIGN 20

Character designs done for a gaming company that worked specifically with casino games. These were matched in style to existing characters the company was using. I started by hand illustrating and then recreated using a Wacom tablet and turned into vector art.

ILLUSTRATION 22 My first love was always hand illustration. My work still always begins with hand sketches which I later translate to digital work. A few of my favorite projects were hand illustrations for creative short stories featured in Flyeleaf Journal.
