PRODUCERS STATEMENT: Silver Reef Organic Farms currently grows Corn Silage for the organic milk industry, Grain Corn for the chicken pullet industry, Hard Red Winter Wheat for a multitude of industries, Pinto Beans, White Kidneys, Barley and Sorghum. With organic crop production we have implemented a strict crop rotation program. We plant either Corn Silage or Grain Corn as the main crop for one year and then move to planting Wheat or Pinto Beans the next year. We have spent the last 3 years working with an agronomist to increase our soil fertility, organic matter and PH levels. All farms are in good shape as far as soil health. Manure is our main source of nitrogen. We truck the manure in from local feedlots, stored on site based on current crop needs. Feedlot and Dairy manure is plentiful in our area. Precision Farming- We are in our base year of implementing precision farming techniques. All farms have been Veris mapped. Production Records and Pricing- Corn Silage has averaged 24 tons to the acre. We believe that we are on track to produce 30 tons of Silage in the coming years. Current pricing has ranged from 63.00/ton standing to 51.5/ton standing. We gross approximately 1250.00 per acre on Silage Corn. Grain Corn- Corn prices were in the 14.00 to 16.00 per bushel in 2013 and 2014. 2015 we received 12.00 per bushel and 2016 will be 10.75 per bushel. We are currently growing 165 to 180 bushels per acre. We gross 1600.00 to 1800.00 per acre with current price levels. Pinto Beans- Pintos have ranged from 78 cents per pound to 72 cents in 2016. We have averaged 32 bushels per acre over the last 3 years and this year we averaged 39.6. We grossed 1684.00 per acre this past year. Keep in mind that we have a cost of 175.00 per acre in weeding cost with this crop. Winter Wheat- Winter Wheat prices have ranged from 14.80 per bushel to 16.80 per bushel the last 3 years. Our current production has on average been in the 85 to 90 bushel range. We also sell the straw to the same customer that is buying the Corn Silage. We gross 1500.00 to 1600.00 per acre with this crop.
